Hey everyone. As of July 2018, Steve Ditko has passed away. I give my full condolences to his family at this time. For everyone watching this video, all I ask for is respect towards him and his family during this time, the comic world may have lost a legend, but those close to him lost a friend/family member. Thank you for understanding.

Finally, a major comic book channel is addressing that Steve Ditko is the true creator of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange!
@henryhitchings93646 жыл бұрын
Batfreeze he’s not though. Stan lee was. He came up with the idea for the character then didn’t like jack Kirby’s design so he went to ditko. Sure, ditko came up with the characters design but Stan lee created all of the character traits and abilities that truly makes a character who they are.

Henry Hitchings Stan came up with the name. Ditko did the rest.

@@henryhitchings9364 Really? Did you know that Steve Ditko came with the idea of Web Shooters? Did you know that Jack Kirby suggested a character that lives with his uncles? Do you know what Brainstorming is?

So a guy at the comic store I go to gave me a print out, and I believe it was something put out by Ditko talking about why he left Marvel. I have it someplace, and I'm too lazy to go look for it, lol, but if I recall correctly it literally had to do with him dropping in at the Marvel offices wanting to discuss something with Stan-maybe it was something creative, maybe not-being told to wait, Stan never coming out to see him, and Steve just going "fuck it," walking out of the building, and never looking back. That's it. I mean, I assume there was a long-standing build up to this involving things like the argument over who the Green Goblin should be and him-like Kirby-mailing completed pages in sight unseen and going "What the hell?" when he saw what Stan had dialogued in the published comics. But the proverbial back-breaking last straw? Being stood up in the office, lol. But, hey, that's totally real life, isn't it? That last, little, unmonumental thing that pushes you over the edge? In the same way he wanted a completely random person to be the Green Goblin because that, too, would be unexpected and unconnected as life often is. Dude was one of a kind and there'll never be another like him.

One of my favorite Ditko titles is the short-lived _Killjoy,_ which ran as a 2nd story in Charlton's _E-Man_ comic. Ditko may not discuss his political views in public, but his libertarian philosophy was on full display within _Killjoy._ At the time I considered myself libertarian also, so the stories resonated.

Wow, I haven't been on KZbin for a while. It's been a really long time. I came to know you for your Comic book videos and then you stopped. Glad I saw this video today. Good job keep it up

Isn't that why the rent guy's name was "Mr. Ditkovich" in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies? Because it alludes to Steve Ditko?

I collected Marvel Comics in the late 60s and early 70s, mostly for the art. I started when Romita was illustrating Spiderman, but I really liked Ditko's work on Dr. Strange. I remember Hawk and Dove, very well done. I bought them for Ditko's art, but really enjoyed the stories as well. It's interesting to me how many posts I see highlighting those great artists of the period, finally giving them credit for the totality of their contributions, beyond just the visual component of the art.

All in all, comics are the inspiration for a lot of popular stories and movies today, so it's a shame that such hardworking comic book creators have trouble getting credit for their work.

You would surprise to know that Jack Kirby drew the very first COVER of Spider-Man. I mean...Amazing Fantasy # 15 ...and Steve Ditko did the interior artwork.

What about The Question, blue beetle, and Mr. A, Ditko's work on those titles more than influenced a large part of the British wave of dc and vertigo, but Alan Moore himself admitted that he stole the idea of Rorschach from Mr. A.

James Wilde really ? I always thought he was more like the question I need to check Mr. A then
@oracledk58856 жыл бұрын
I consider the Question a Mr.A on light. As, Mr. A is even more way to show his political view, it even was in black and white. Fun fact one of the few videos with his voice explains how his views are reflected in the book.

I love the video but you forgot objectivist characters like Mr.A and the Question. You also forgot the part where everyone criticized him because of his beliefs of Ayn Rand's objectivism a thing that even your favorite writer Neil Gaiman talked shit about and said Mr.A wasn't pretending to be a comic book.

Sad Truth is That Ditko Much Like Joe Simon, Jack Kirby, Len Wein & Few Others Aren't As Recognized as Bob Kane & Stan Lee. It's Like When You Look at Batman. You Think of Bob Kane, Not Bob Kane & Bill Finger. Who Played a Larger Role in Batman's Design & Gave Batman The Name Bruce Wayne. Check Out This Video!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHPWeIV4Zdl1pZI
