Around 3:13:55 they started talking about speech. In Skyrim it always did bug me that Intimidate was tied directly with speech craft. I always thought character physical build, gear and just all around presence should be a part of it. Example - The Riften Guard stops you at the gate to try and shake you down. A tiny wood elf in some basic robes shouldn't have the same level of "Intimidation" as a Giant Orc/Nord in full plate. Something along those lines.
@schmid1.079
@schmid1.079 Жыл бұрын
There are lots of ways to hurt someone in skyrim, and a tiny wood elf describing how he could use magic to burn me to crisps, ressurect me and do it again would be a lot more terrifying than a simple warrior... even if that was a lie. Speech! Also from a gameplay perspective speech is the most useless skill in the game. Those speech checks are essentially the only time it does something meaningfull.
@Duranous.
@Duranous. 7 ай бұрын
That and Speechcraft was so binary. Either it worked 100% and it behaves like a Jedi mind trick or it doesn't. Plus there are so many times where you can't even use it. For some reason you can tell a thief who was about to gut you to f off and they do but you accidentally run over a chicken and the entire town wants your head. One would think that situation could be easily remedied with out violence or guards by just paying the owner restitution for their chicken.
@NukeCaulfield

There is one instance of this in the game (sort of). If you're wearing a daedric helmet, your intimidation attempts are 10% more likely to succeed.

@@chrisbenson6753 such an accurate comment! Todd may deserve credit for streamlining TES to mainstream fandom, but it was almost like making a deal with the devil. In doing so he had to sacrifice gameplay elements and go against core philosophies of the earlier entries.
@chrisbenson6753
@chrisbenson6753 2 жыл бұрын
@@Astrothunder_ I'm really hoping other devs (Once Lost, Obsidian, etc.) are successful at picking up the audience that has been left behind. I find it odd that TES has gone on for so long without direct competition. To me it's been pretty clear that Todd/current Bethesda don't really understand what it is that made TES wonderful and sets the games apart from other fantasy rpgs.

@@Jay-ys2cf I have to admit, I am not so keen on the next elder scrolls for that reason. All the good stuff that gives the games depth are thrown out with the bath water. There is now only one type of way to play the game and it is more linear than sandbox now. It is a themepark and not an enviorment to explore. I joined at Morrowind and it has fallen off further with each release. I am more looking forward to Wayward Realms now.

I honestly like the dragon break and the Dwemer being a mystery. To me that makes it feel more real that in a world where you know for sure what happens when you die, or that magic was real, or what is in and in between space and time there are still things that can happen that are like “shit what the hell was that” or people messing with things way beyond them and paying the price

His dissing on the dragon break I think deserves some pushback. It's one of the best features of the franchise. It makes you think really hard beyond that of time travel and it does have sensible conclusion because it's merely the rearranging of all the parts contained within the Mundus. It's less of a contradiction and more of something like that of data compiling as if the Elder Scrolls universe exist within a computer

I really love the idea of a game where you get a sub skill related to HOW and WHO you learned speechcraft. So like they say towards the end, get a dude who’s super persuasive and personable with fellow nobles, knows all the unspoken rules of etiquette and how to navigate the politics, and put them in a merchant guild where their fully lost on how to talk with merchants in a way that makes them likely to be helpful. Make it a skill that can be raised through use and have each major group have a persuasion check against a specific type of interaction.

Nothing beats owning a physical copy of a fantasy game, be it TES or something else like Dragon Age. Seeing the nice cover art and maybe have a map included + the manual is just always so much fun to look back at years later. Sadly, like you said, that magic has been lost with the digitalization of games.

I just bought Cyberpunk 2077 a few months ago at a bargain bin for 20 bucks but the packaging rocks! Full color instruction manual, maps and lore book and a sleek cover. I really wish more modern games did this instead of that crappy flimsy sheet you get with a DLC code on it.
@Astrothunder_
@Astrothunder_ 2 жыл бұрын
@@DontStopCornPop to be fair, how many modern games are actually worth the waste of space and plastic? I like the idea that the only games that bother with those sorta collectibles, boxes, maps, etc are the games that are actually worth a damn (or atleast have the confidence to think they’re worth a damn).

@@Astrothunder_ Fair that environment is an issue. Digital games are also extremely convenient for people like me who live in countries that doesn't have a big gaming scene, so I don't have to pay the ridiculous shipping fee.

As always 🐪, excellent video. Absolutely brilliant having one of the founding fathers of a series we are obsessed with on for a video. It's great learning even more about the beginnings and little tidbits, I'm surprised I and everyone watching haven't zero summed; but then - who would watch these banger videos? Also very happy that authors have been recommended, can't wait to read about Morrowindl as I had no idea about that. You have earned another hump on your back ✨🐫✨❤️

probaly won't see this, but wanted to give some legit engagement seeing that I am unable to donate in any other meaningful way. I've loved all your lore videos, I've been a fan of the elderscrolls going way way back to arena, and while my memory fails me frequently on lore, i've loved watching and rewatching many of your videos. sometimes as background noise other times as something to sit and just benge for a while. thanks for all the work you guys put into your videos! and a special thank you to Ted Peterson too, I'm not going to lie i've way to often overlooked his importance to some of the many games that have brought joy to my life.

3:28:06 I gotta say, as someone who's been trying to get work in 3d art for months, you're very incorrect. They are in short supply of "Senior" or "Lead" people, that have been in the industry for a decade, but they never want to hire someone with less than 3 years experience. I know what I am doing and have a diploma in the field, and I'm jobless. I also don't want to become a literal slave and work without pay just to get experience. IMO that's enabling a degenerate society. Also it's illegal in my country.

I've been binging your long form content on TES, while I'm not new to the community as I've been playing Skyrim since I was 9(currently 19, 20 in march), only played around 30 hours in ESO. Never really learned much thats outside of Skyrim, like your video on Saadia and the Alkir warriors really made me realize that I know nothing on the history of this universe, as I believed Saadia but what you said in the video, like the Redguard hate elves so theres no way they'd ever side with the Thalmor! I know Skyrim's history of the nords coming from Atmora and wiping out the Snow elves and the whole thing. But outside of it is a mystery to me. So from me, a baby histrion that loves the series and your videos, Thank you for everything you've done. From the long form content explaining and theorizing to easter eggs, Thank you. I look forward to move videos and everything you have in store for us ♥
