Don't get me wrong because I fully understand the severity of the incident with Ashton but why would they need counseling for the incident? I'm going to be honest I don't like Riley. But what people aren't realizing it's fight, flight, or freeze. She was likely in shock and Frozen. As somebody who's been through shock multiple times I know my body tends to freeze. It's a natural survival Instinct. As much as I dislike Riley I truly believe that's what happened. I also imagined there would be a lot of Shame associated with that. It's not uncommon for survivors of trauma to feel shame for having Frozen.

It was awful to watch the episode, and so thankful for the outcome. I once had a situation related to being held under water by a ferocious rapid (rapid 1, the Boiling Pot) on the Zambezi River. After panic, with no air in my lungs, it was followed by acceptance of the end of life, and a surreal peace...but when eventually I got kicked out of the current, and could start seeing the daylight above the water, that's when panic happened again because I realized I might be able to live, and desperately swam for the surface before I would inhale the water...but above all, I remember accepting the end, and the overwhelming sense of peace that came with it...

Great attitude Ashton never allow things like that to control your life and be ruled be the fear of what if's what's done is done. There should of been better radio communication but those on the swim platform were consumed with trying to help Riley in that instance should of been commended for remaining calm & not screaming endlessly into the radio. The way Kate was walking so calmly to fetch the life ring was confusing to me she wasn't treating it as an emergency!

Is it the camera man that says "man overboard" first? You can hear someone say it BEFORE Rhylee says it into her walkie. Also, what is the white rope Ashton is holding onto? That's actually what pulls him in, even though the black rope is around his leg.
@susgra21
@susgra21 5 жыл бұрын
GW Painter IDK why Ashton didn't drop that white (tender) line, but he was just doing his job hanging onto the boat, he didn't know he was going in at that moment. I thought the male voice from off camera was the new deck hand, but now that you mention maybe it was the cameraman. That was seconds from becoming a fatal accident, if not for him. @cpcassone
@cpcassone Жыл бұрын
Look at my other comment. It has more detail but the black rope is tied from stern clear to stern cleat. It is called a bridle. The white rope is the actual tow line that the tender is being pulled from behind the boat. The white tow line is meant to be connected to the black section of rope (the bridle) so that as the boat moves around, changes course, and goes through waves etc. the tow line is able to slide across the bridle so that the tender is always being pulled centered behind the boat. Bridles allow the tow line to always be centered behind the vessel pulling whatever is being towed. You are correct, all he had to do was make sure his feet were clear of any lines and drop the tow line and step out of the way. The way he went about setting up that bridle and trying to prevent the tow line from becoming taught too violently as the boat started moving forward was way wrong. The captain should have gently nudged the boat forward in small increments to gently pull all of the slack in the tow line out instead of just putting the boat in gear and moving forward and Ashton trying to manage the tension in the line by hand to mitigate the sudden shock or the tow line becoming taught. You never ever want any lines or ropes around your feet at any time.

RILEY SAVED HIS LIFE TOO! If she did not call overboard, then the captian would have continued driving the boat. and she tried to pull him back but couldnt as force is too strong. and she almost fell in too.

Towing larger tenders is becoming a much more common thing in yachting. It has to be done safely, there should NEVER be a situation where you have a person on the swim platform and engines engaged.

Another crybaby, my 3 year old niece is a crybaby as well she cries over everything. I was at my other niece's birthday party and my 3 year old niece cried 20 times over nothing, I even held her, patted her back for five minutes and was talking to her, asking her questions about her toys and her drawings ect and she carried on crying over nothing.

… Ashton being as hard core as he is, (a true Saffrican) just tried to use his muscles which he is seriously proud of, to try and hold the tender- and then got pulled off the boat. What happens under water is what could have been treacherous . Bravo Bro. No quaams. Wasn’t wrapped yet- but could have been- did the right thing and jumped to avoid rope tension… Legend!

As you can see I have issues with being concise sorry. This was one of the most devastating things to happen on any season of this show. The one thing Ashton said touched home with me simply because I can relate. He said that it happened for a reason and if it helps others then that is the reason. I've been sick since I was a little girl and eleven years ago when I was 32 my specialists gave me two years at the most to live which was fair since I've been resuscitated too many times to count. Whenever someone asks me if I could live life without my illnesses and deadly complications would I? I have always said no because it made me a strong person mentally even though physically I was never strong. The fact that I've lived well past my supposed end date I've been able to help other patients I'm in hospital with, I've lectured student doctors on my dysfunctional body and reminded them that patients are not just another number that whatever treatment and medical procedures they want me to do affects every area of my life. I've been a mentor to patients who are not coping with their medical reality and just around the corner from my home is my local hospice where my palliative team are and I go there as a volunteer so that when either a patient or a family member needs someone to talk to who understands and listens to them. I found it hard to find a new purpose because I had to give up teaching and I was a solo foster Mum specialising in severely abused children who had extreme behaviours. The children that get left behind because they are put into the too hard box. It really hit home last year when my Mum who is my best friend passed away Boxing Day 2020. I know the reason why I'm here right now, my Dad needs me emotionally and also to cook his meals and other tasks. So between coping with my lack of health and the repercussions of having to cope with less resting I'm struggling to mourn my Mum but I know that I need to be strong for both my Dad and I. So Ashton you were saved because just like you said you have a reason. It might take years or you may never realise why you were saved but you have already touched many people. I admire you for talking about it because a personal story from someone is much more powerful than other people who repeat it and soon you realise that because of people telling someone elses story can be totally wrong by the time ten people have listened and retold it slightly wrong. We call it a Chinese whisper here. Now the bosun or captain can say to the crew to watch out for the lines because this happened to someone, play the event happening and these after interviews and they will take note of it. Seeing it will have an impact and that it's not just a myth or urban legend. I wish you all the best in whatever your future holds. The day this happened you became a strong, brave man. Xx

Sunshine Girl. Tired? You’re crazy! Are you making excuses for what happened? This clearly was an emergency situation. Why was the crew not trained. Remember when “new guy” arrived on board? NO DISCUSSION OR RHETORIC from captain lee regarding his experience or training. Just a handshake. Speaks volumes in regards to the lack of certifications and/or safety training as a requirement for deck hands. I’d like to hear from Rhylee and Ashton. Maybe she should not have been on the swim deck at all. Was she in Ashton’s way? Watch the video. There are things we don’t know. Let’s hear from the cameraman, Rhylee, Ross and Ashton. But to say they were tired? You’re dead wrong. That’s why Adrenalin kicks in. To overcome being tired in stressful situations.

Can someone explain what exactly would've happened? That tow line, where does it go? Was it wrapped in the propeller? Was he going down with the anchor? I'm curious!
@sunshinegirl6854
@sunshinegirl6854 5 жыл бұрын
he was standing on rope that usually pulls boats and stuff. and the rope moved in wrapped around his ankle pulling him in. riley tired to help by holding onto him but the water force was too strong. as the boat pulled him the rope strengthened almost cutting off his foot being dragged in water. then riley called man overboard. captian heard stopping the boat. and the camera man dropped the camera and untied/loosened the rope line to losen the tie from foot preventing it from being cut off. despite the captain shutting the boat...the boat would have still continued moving with force of the waves continue pulling his foot with tension.
@sunshinegirl6854

if they also did not add extra feet to the boat when reconstructing it. then he would have been sucked in by the original size of the boat as the propellor would have been closer I think. of what the cheif stew said

Rylee has been screaming all season and decides that this is the one time to mumble "MOB" once. She needed to express the urgency of this situation. She claims to be a captain and did NOTHING to help. A camera man did more than a captain.

@ArtVanAuggie

I know the yacht world is different than a real navy, but as an ex-racing owner, the operations depicted in these shows reek of studio production, the hell with reality. First of all, where the hell is the first officer, your damned boat is 195 feet long, you are required to have a 1st and an engineer. Second, your MOB protocols suck. You obviously don't practice. Proper radio procedure is MOB MOB MOB, TANGLED TANGLED TANGLED, 180 Relative and distance. Third, any and every Boatswain carries a sheath knife, on smaller boats and racing boats, EVERYONE carries a knife and there should ALWAYS be an AX handy. I know Below Deck is about the drama, but you shouldn't let operations slip this far. Your boats are f---ing dangerous.
