The Crib/Bed Ep 02: How to Steam Bend Kiln Dried Wood

It turns out you can bend kiln dried wood, it just takes a bit of a process. After many attempts I succeeded in pretty tight 4" bends.
All projects are dangerous, but this one could burn your face off! I'm not an expert, and I can't be responsible for your safety. This is just my experience and I can't make any promise it is correct or safe! You've been warned.

Good video. I was worried the timber would cool down too much during the setup but you solved that by keeping the steam going. Nice.

Thanks for sharing. A couple observations/questions: Did you leave the other end of the bag open for steam to escape? And it was hard to see how you secured the tank straps and tighten them if you can bring the camera in closer next time. Thanks.

someone said to presoak 6 days with fabric softener, the wagon guy in MT uses ammonia in water to bend his hoops.

Klasse Video, endlich mal eine relativ einfache Methode! Aus anderen Anleitungen entnahm ich, daß man das Holz nach dem ‘steam bending’ am besten noch zwei weitere Stunden dampfen läßt, um cracks zu vermindern, und es dann sehr langsam ‘akklimatisiert’ (was du ja schon gemacht hast). I have not been ale to bend successfully do this but I do have one suggestion. Use a vacuum bag like you would use to cryovac food you can make them as long as you need they withstand heat and are sealed at all but one end.
