And what role did the global oil cartel have in pinching off Venezuela's oil from the global economy and thus cutting off money to Chavez? You skipped right over that part completely.
@Federico-ht7ks11 күн бұрын
Exactly! Western media in the US and Europe are the propaganda stooges for the global elites. Sweden, Norway, Finland and Germany are all socialist countries. What's the difference between these socialist countries and Venezuela? Three words: US, Western sanctions. Stop the lies about Venezuela. Venezuela failed because of US sanctions when Chavez nationalized the oil industry to get better deals advantageous to the country, and stop the West from taking their oil at ridiculously low prices, from deals negotiated by US puppets who ruled the country before Chavez. Sanctions, virtually overnight, cut off Venezuelan oil exports, the life blood of its economy, and they were locked out of the swift banking system. The US and its western allies threaten to sanction any country attempting to do business with Venezuela. Sweden, Norway, Finland and Germany are all socialist countries with free healthcare, schools, including university, housing subsidies. If US sanctions like the ones done to Venezuela were put on these countries they would collapse also. For decades, the biggest bully in the world has been the US government, threatening any country that refuses to bend to its will. Eventually, the bully gets punched in the face. Along comes BRICS, and countries are clamoring to join and get from under the US thumb.

Venezuela went into a 'spend-borrow-spend-borrow' cycle during Chavez' rule by leveraging their huge oil reserves at a time when oil prices reached its peak. Instead of diversifying its economy, Chavez chose the easy path by concentrating on one commodity that Venezuela has lots of for less effort. When the price crashed, the country found itself with just a fraction of its usual income with a huge debt. It was poor fiscal management and corruption that got it to where it is right now. I’m sorry, but that is BS. The sanctions were a reaction; quite the opposite of a trigger as you allude… and if I’m honest, they came even later than most Americans would have wanted. Here is a great example of news propaganda. Why don’t we go back to how this all started? This started when Chavez took back their oil, gas, gold mines, infrastructure from the greedy corporations who bribed previous administrations for their sweetheart deals. Chavez demanded their gold back from Germany, Germany demanded their gold back from the USA. Ouch! The major corporations leaned on their country governments to punish Venezuela. The USA put heavy sanctions on them, stopping them from exporting their oil. When this did not work, they along with a few other countries backed a plan to suck all of the paper currency out of Venezuela. They did this by smuggling black market items into Venezuela, they were paid in Venezuela currency for these items and took that currency out of the country. This caused hyper inflation. Venezuela is not the bad guys , the greedy corporations who bribed previous administrations to steal the wealth from this country are the real criminals. Yet no one talks about the truth. This is a great example of powerful people and their quest for more money at any cost. They laugh at crushing this poor country.

This is a great example of the "Dutch disease". In this case, the energy sector made so much money during high oil price that it overshadowed and completely eliminated many other sectors in the economy. However, when oil price craters, the energy sector can't no longer generate enough revenue to maintain current spending. Usually, in a diverse economy, other sectors would absorb and soften the economic crisis but they ain't gonna be there in Venezuela case. Russia is also another case of Dutch disease but that is for another time.
