I feel like Rupert Sander's three films; 'Snow White and the Huntsman', 'Ghost in the Shell', and 'The Crow' all have a similar strength (visuals) and weakness (script). Each are very aesthetically unique with often breathtaking design. The casting of the films is always unique (with lots of eye-candy) and there seems to be a real sense of sincerity. Unfortunately, the final scripts (often attributed to the studio hacking the films to bits in editing/reshoots) are too basic/standard. Also, them being remakes/re-imaginings of beloved properties makes legacy fans interest an uphill battles. In spite of this, on experiential terms, I find all the films to be rather interesting. I can see 'The Crow' resonating with a teenage audience when it arrives on streaming/video. It's definitely got a fun, angsty, poetic vibe similar to YA films from the 00's and 2010's. The opera scene cooks and the romance is kinda hot haha.

This is my view as well, I am very familiar with his work so I know how weak his writing tends to be, and yet they still become beloved in groups not well-versed or overly caring of the source material. Despite my side-eyeing of the casting, I really liked Ghost in the Shell, the use of cyberpunk visuals is probably doing the heavy lifting in my enjoyment though.
@FILMWANTSYOUBACK2 ай бұрын
@@kimberleywilliams7802 For sure. I truly think Ghost in the Shell is one of the most visually beautiful movies/sounding of the last decade. Thematically, the casting of ScarJo is actual true to the source material in the cyborg's origin story (as its about a Japanese woman's identity being stolen and transposed in a shell of westernized beauty).

Watched the crow 2024 on thursday then rewatched the 94 crow last night. 94 Crow is and was pure 90s and so well done. Perfect love story really felt the pain from lee and the cast around him was excellent . 9 out of 10. 2024 crow I liked skarsgard as the crow alot he made the movie for me. just wished i felt his love as much i didn't feel connected to shelly and eric's love here as deeply as lee. Felt like they could of put the love story together way better. Feeling wise it just didn't work . But I ENJOYED the feel of the setting and action . Overall it's a decent watch for what it was 6 out of 10 for me.

Limbo Cronos man was annoying. I kept hoping they’d have used a young blonde teenager girl instead as an homage to the young girl Eric and Shelley befriended in that role.

TO BE FAIR, if you're one of the people that has watched the trailer and already decided it's not your vibe, you should follow that. If I enjoy a film, I'll say that, but not everyone is drawn to the same genres or details as each other. I happen to like watching a leading man willing to risk it all to save the woman he loves, James Cameron does that in more or less every film he makes. 🤭

I'm curious if Prague is a popular place to film in Europe. I feel like I've heard "Prague filming location" a lot in the past. Maybe it's got that beautiful backdrop and affordable permit situation going on?
@LadyJenevia2 ай бұрын
I can't immediately recall other examples but I'm tempted to say that there's a specific aesthetic that some productions like to use it for and of course if there's already an established working relationship and infrastructure that makes it easier for Hollywood productions to go there, it's only natural that it will continue. 😊

it’s because the skull cowboy gave him the ability to cross worlds and told Eric you can never be with her again and Eric says there is a way him and Shelly can find each other again Eric never went heaven or hell his body on earth is dead he is trapped in a spirit realm where he can still go back some how

People turning this movie into a personal attack towards Lee are so childish. This movie is not an adaptation of 94s version but an inspired piece of the comic book. Bill killed it as The Crow.

I’m sorry but it’s not very good. Bill and FKA are talented actors though. Shelly could have been the one to save Eric. That would have given her a bigger role and more agency. Anyway this remake should’ve never happened. The OG Crow had heart and beauty to it. Brandon Lee was a legend and he brought a kind and gentle quality to the role of Eric. Of course that can never be replaced 😢

To me I REALLY wanted to love this movie, I’ve been waiting since the trailer dropped back in March for it to come out, and to say the trailer is more epic than the actual movie is an understatement. I wanted to enjoy this but the thing for me was the pacing, it was horrible!! Like Eric is not “The Crow” until the last 20 minutes of the movie, the villains were so bland a vanilla ice cream cone has more spice then they do, the fantasy elements were cool and when they would just start to pick up for some reason the movie would just put the breaks on when we were starting to get somewhere! This movie didn’t make me cry out of happiness like the OG did with the ending, it left me confused and frustrated. I almost fell asleep twice during this movie and I’m not a OG Crow movie lover like that, but this movie just was not 1 what I expected and 2 like what she’s making it out to be, just save your money and wait a few months for it to be on streaming

Also, I get that the source material is extremely gothic and that they wanted to UP the despair by having Shelly violated in the way she is, but one thing I stand by is that the original story DID NOT NEED THAT to push Eric onto his journey. I feel like they wanted to do something so heinous and graphic to push him onto his arc but I seriously can't get behind that idc idc. Why does something being dark have to include continuously the exploitation of the female character? And so graphic as well.
@m0811132 ай бұрын
So Eric is there in "The Purgatory" , not sent to Hell. How would that lead to a sequel?? What WOULD Eric do after that??? Maybe that's what Bill Skarsgard meant by "definitive".
@gothic_llama2 ай бұрын
I could see the ending setting up a potential sequel a little bit. I feel like they could have another main character get into the limbo and Eric would be the one to giude them and give them the power, just like Cronos did to him, then that main caracter in the sequel becomes the guide in the limbo at the end of their movie.

Enya music in The Crow?! what the LOTR epicness
@raspberryripple882 ай бұрын
sadly not. Im a metalhead but also an Enya fan, and i have to say that the particular song they used simply does not work in the film, and definitely not in the specific scene where it appears. Personally, the whole soundtrack feels off to me. The individual songs and bands are not neccessarily bad, they just dont seem to fit the film and like they were trying too hard to come up with a 'cool' or 'edgy' soundtrack
@LadyJenevia2 ай бұрын
The Enya song is soooooo good, Cinema Guerrilla, and perfect for what's happening in the story! It's a song called "Boadicea" based on a real Celtic queen who unleashed a bunch of violent retribution against the Roman empire for what was done to herself and her daughters. Unexpectedly good timing since we're now in the countdown to Ridley Scott's Gladiator II! 🔥

The character I’m talking about that is the best character of the movie a very bad ass character that is shown through out he kills Eric with the plastic Eric comes back the crow is flying flys past Eric he passes a car walks back to the car and he is like I fucking killed you it’s in the trailer but that character was amazing but almost no screen time I have very small complaints like that and one major plot hole but nothing to ruin the movie for me

I felt that all the things that made the original so liked were all absent in this one. It didn't seem like the director really knew what he was doing, like he didn't know what makes a movie in general good, much less the specific movie he was trying to re-imagine. This is why it's got a 20% critical score rating on RT at the time of this comment. It's nearly unanimous even among most non-fanatics that the movie felt bland, lacking any focused vision, and was really horribly paced. The concept of the characters either made no sense or had no substance to them, or both. I can't help but feel that this reboot will end up in the bargain bin of our local dollar stores and be quickly forgotten. 20mil budget basically flushed. In any case, any director who has real respect for the original to know not to touch this IP would be the only one to actually do any decent job with it.

This movie sucks. The relationship was bland and uninteresting, not enough action, too much explication on the supernatural, Eric doesn't fully become the crow till the last few minutes, I don't feel threatened by the villains just another rich guy boring. The original is a masterpiece. Great mood and Gothic atmosphere, great action, likeable characters a tragic love story and villains you want dead and everything doesn't need to be explained. Brandon Lee can't be matched he is the crow.

Some people like the movies that they do mostly just based on modern visuals and no so much on substance of plot, characters, etc. I'm noticing that most of the people I see praise this reboot show this. Likewise, I've seen comments by these people saying the old one isn't good because "the visual effects don't hold up anymore". Or that "the story was just so simple." Sometimes the actual nature or purpose of these movies just kinda go right over their heads I guess.

@@jonathansessoms3507you have to be a troll if you think pacing was not an issue with the original. Loved the original but you don’t fall in love with a character you seen for less than three minutes and that is all you see of Shelly period. The only explanation for him being back is the quote from the beginning of the movie and flashbacks that do no justice to the source material. The location and some of the scenes that are taken from the comic do no justice when the story is butchered. The only cap here is you not looking at both films objectively and without nostalgia glasses
