I kinda wish they'd added Mr. Dream to the Wii Punch Out, so he could've had SOME kinda personality and reputation beyond being, "Not Mike Tyson"
@ultralance3 ай бұрын
I do like they at least included one Mr. Dream reference in the Wii game, in the Tyson... I mean, Sandman fight. I'm 99% sure that his triple uppercut move was unnamed before the Wii game... where they gave it the name Dreamland Express. With that said, still agree, would've been better if they just actually had Mr. Dream... maybe have him show up in Mac's Last Stand either before or instead of Donkey Kong. You know where they really should've put Mr. Dream for my vote? Super Punch-Out for SNES, where the final boss is literally the identical twin brother of the guy you fight ***immediately*** before him. It's not even a case of like, Honda sprite vs Tyson where they changed it up - they basically took the penultimate fight of the game, cloned him, then finished it up by changing the first name from Rick to Nick, taking off his earring, and flipping his smile into a frown. Yeah, I'm one of the weirdos whose favorite game in the series is SNES Punch-Out!!... but one of the few faults I can see clear as day is the Bruiser brothers. I could nitpick a couple others, but honestly, that's the biggest one for me I think.

I originally passed Mr. Dream off as "generic," but the more I think about his design, the more I like to think that he's supposed to represent Little Mac. He looks to me like what Little Mac would look like on the opposite end of the ring as a full-fledged opponent. This, and his vague profile lead me to believe that Mr. Dream is a manifestation of Little Mac's goals, his dreams if you will.

@Noah4cool This is the canon answer. "The Official Nintendo Magazine claims Glass Joe defeated Nick Bruiser in an accident, supported by the fact that he is on the fastest score list. However, Nick Bruiser has an undefeated 42-0 record, although this could be because of Glass Joe's win being accidental, so they didn't give Nick Bruiser a loss in his record, while still giving Glass Joe a win in his record." The sole reason Sega wanted Buster Douglas for their Genesis boxing game was because he beat Mike Tyson, so they wanted to use that to get one over on Nintendo (which they even put on the back of the box!) But for a final boss, Mr. Dream isn't very intimidating, especially after Bald Bull, Mr Sandman and The Super Macho Man. Its sequel didn't really do any better with their final guy either. But the Wii version was good having Donkey Kong, that really came out of nowhere.

Of course I always preferred the version with Mike Tyson because that was just part of the lore of my childhood. But I completely get why they dropped Tyson, and honestly, it's fine. It makes more sense to have an original character instead of a real-world one anyway. I always just thought he was too unimaginative. They should have come up with a character just as crazy and outlandish as the rest of the cast. I thought the final bout in Super Punch Out was even cheaper though; he was just a slightly re-colored version of the second-to-last boss. If they had replaced him with Mr Dream, my love and respect of Mr Dream would have gone up considerably. They should have just made him the canon final boss of the Punch Out universe, instead of just a one-off character from a re-release version.

I actually don't mind and have both versions involving Tyson and Dream, but consider Dream to be harder because it's hard to pick up the flash before he uppercuts against his pale skin. With Tyson, it's easy. Like it's hard with timing, but at least the visual element is not the reason for difficulty. So any kind of ultimate challenge stunt I make on it that involves Tyson or Dream in the fight, I'm picking Dream for that reason alone. Unless it's a whole game stunt, which I don't even have a version of, then you have two ultimate versions, Tyson first and like Tyson+ basically, but Dream IS noticably harder to affect my stunts if I made one. I don't. I have a PER FIGHT stunt which requires emulators and save states if I want to do it and not do pointless fights before each try on the cartridge. But I don't want to fool with emulators. My computer and gaming on computer technology is not up to date for that. It would affect it. I do have per fight strategies for my particular challenge mapped out up to a certain point.
