If given the chance i feel like she could win against sanjii and zoro both, not thanks to her strength (that is a lot according to her potential) but thanks to her experience, her ability to kill in two seconds snapping necks and her intelligence. She had a lot of potential, still has, but is never used. I really think zoro and robin are on the same level under luffy. Sanjii is just a little weaker than them to me, he's a monster too but not like them.

All she had to do was snapping his neck with her devil fruit power before he could even start running at her. At the same time i don't think she could win in a long fight against zoro so if that move didn't work she would be powerless against him. These are just speculations tho because we actually haven't seen robin fight seriously, if she has haki and her strength level right now. These are my thoughts as a one piece reader

Honestly Oda hasn't handled the female characters well overall after the time skip. Their backstories are so well developed but their relevance in the current story is minimal. Like we've spent heaps of time with the other Supernovas but barely anything with Bonney. OP female characters have so much more potential.

the thing is, even though Robin does have a big importance and purpose in the story, it's mainly for the overall story and a very specific role on the ship\crew. Robin is 1 of the if not THE only person in the world who can read the ancient script of the poneglyphes, and her knowledge about the world is something that none of the other straw-hats have, but the problem is- "archeologist" isn't a necessity on a pirate crew or any crew sailing the seas, so it often seems like she is irrelevant, and the second point is: as far as fighting goes, her ability is handy(pun intended) but not very strong and actually make her extremely vulnerable, which is why at the current part of the story where all the enemies are really strong df and haki users, it would be better if she fought very strategically or didn't fight at all, so it makes her lose focus when fighting is needed(and it's needed almost all the time). she is very important- just not in the way most of the other characters in OP are important, which often leads to her being seen somewhat out of things most of the time.

The problem for me with the change in robins design was that it felt like she was sacrificed for fan service when she's clearly a more introverted and cerebral kind of character that as the grandlinereview put it had alot more going for her in terms of cohesion of design and attention to detail. I'm pretty sure she's supposed to be able to sprout her full body off a surface she can see, basically allowing her a different form of transportation. In more broad terms the change in her design is a byproduct of the force of the market on one piece as a whole. from the change in animation style and now almost formulaic plot patterns to the less individual charm and charisma found in each episode that was so representative of onepiece. Undoubtedly Oda wouldn't have been capable of bringing his vision to life without toei's help, i just wish the life-like interactions and developement of characters in onepiece had stayed how it was, instead of sometimes turning its characters into almost parodies of their past selves.

The fan service began much earlier than when the time skip started and her loss of tan was a result of being in the cold weather. What cohesion and attention to detail that she had pre time skip that she lost now, being able to sproat her full body of something doesn't mean she can transport she can only create another part of her self and that requires alot of effort, her original self is still located at a still location and doesn't move. The whole force of the market thing is just assunptions and doesn't matter in tge grand scheme of things if you look at any manga from where it started ti where it is now, you will notice a change in artstyle in any manga. The formulaic plot patterns have been present since the beginning not something new in one piece with zou, whole cake and now wano are greater deviations from the standard formula. Had for the less individual charm and charisma , the characters still have the same features, quirks and characterizations that they had in the beginning of the series that they had now, and their new designs dont hinder showcasing those quirks and behavior and interactions. If youre talking about the anime, then i can see the problem but thats more akin to animation problems than artstyle, if you say that the artstyle effects the charm of the characters to the extent that they are just parodies of their former selves , than it is very superficial on your end as they still have the same characterization with their individual development considered with their interactions. And the amount detail in terms activity and background and character expressions and models is still the same if not more in terms of background and elements within a scene.

Post-timeskip is completely different from pre-timeskip. Personalities, relationships, overall atmosphere. There is no that feel of adventure. To be honest, Oden's flashback is what has returned that into the story, but in actual events everything is different

You are right in saying how different post and pre TS era feels in OP.And obviously it depends on what you prefer more. But-and I've thought long and hard about this topic-this was the natural evolution of the story that NEEDED to happen. Pre TS, the focus was more on the SH as individual,how they affected each other.The scale of events felt more personal and intimate.Becasue the SH at this point wasn't big enough to matter much to grander world. Post TS, the focus has shifted to the grander world itself and so the scale has increased. Why? Because the SH are big players in the world now.Everything they do affects the world on a much larger scale. I mean that's the why you had a "time skip".What's the point of a TS if the status quo remains exactly the same?! Again,you might like one era over the other based on you personal taste.But from a narrative pov, this was the natural progression in the story.

lmao chopper not being relevant, sure pal. when we're in WANO, the place that Hiruluk visited and healed himself with the cherry trees' flower petals and where you can possibly find the panacea, the cure to every disease, which Usopp lied to his mom as a child that it existed (and Usopp's lies always come true). and there's also the fact that LAW, the man who can literally give IMMORTALITY, something Chopper said in Thriller Bark would be extremely valuable if it was actually properly done, and Law's a doctor too and the man they are going to defeat in Wano is immortal. if there's any Straw Hat who is going to be unimportant, that's going to be Nami or maybe Sanji, all the others have extremely important roles, yes even Franky.

There used to be a KZbin channel that had videos titled "Luffy all fights" or "Zoro all fights" and it would be all the serious fights respected person was in, no fodder, no filler, no dragged out scenes with flashbacks and expository trash talk, just raw fighting. 4 years ago Luffy's video was 5 hours long, Zoro's was 3, Sanji 1.5, and every other member of the Strawhats was under 1 hour with Robin's being under 30 minutes. All of Robin's fights combined added up to under 30 minutes

She's my favourite character so it saddens me that she's wasted. She's the most story relevant character in the series next to Luffy. She isn't just a piece of walking fanservice like Nami is. And she's got the best development in the series. And I don't like the excuse that's she's too OP. Have her fight a Logia type and see how she fights outside her comfort zone.

Robin is literally the only Straw Hat where we have no idea what their timeskip entailed, and that’s simply because Oda is holding his proper introduction of the Revolutionary Army into the story for a specific time. Yes, we’ve seen and heard of it’s various members since before the timeskip, but we haven’t seen them in full force (remember - we still haven’t met the guy they showed that silhouette of during Doflamingo’s speech).

I was blown away when I had these realizations a couple years back. Robin is one of my favorite characters and it is hard to see her forced into taking a back seat. I feel like the latter half of the crew has gotten this same treatment I mean I can't even think of a legitimate fight Brook has had since joining the crew. And I don't really like to count fishmen island because it was just a pretty dull showcase of everyone's powers without any real thrill.

Well the cast got split between Dressrosa (Franky, Robin, Zoro, Usopp) and WCI (Nami, Chopper, Brook, Sanji) in terms of focus with only having Luffy involved in both. At Dressrosa - Franky, zoro, and usopp had a role (Franky vs. Senor pink, Usopp vs. Sugar, Zoro vs. Pica). At WCI - Nami, Brook and Sanji had a role (Nami assissting in cracker fight and getting Zeus, Sanji self explanatory, Brook vs. Big Mom and Smoothie). Objectively, Chopper and Robin have been the least involved members.

I think that Oda neglecting Robin comes along with a general New-Era way of dealing with women characters. I think that Oda has gone down a path of women as either sex objects or ugly but powerful, and not a lot are in-between like they sometimes got to be pre-time skip. Rebecca is a good example, where she could have just been made a strong character in her own right, but instead had to be protected the whole time.

I wish Robin was utilized as much as she could be. Her devil fruit is extremely strong and I believe if she used her full potential she could beat (with varying difficulty) most of the crew members excluding Jimbei, Zoro, and Luffy. It's tragic that she's in the shonen woman backseat because she could be handing out big thumps and her intellectual position, especially in the new world, has not replaced that for reasons you said. Glad one of my favorite one piece youtubers feels similarly though.

Robin IS my favourite SH and favourite character in OP in general.So this maybe my personal bias speaking. But to me,personally the biggest missed opportunity in all of OP is Robin's DF,the Hana-Hana no mi. If Oda can make freaking rubber and mocchi so badass then there really is no limit to the possibilities Oda couldv'e come up with regarding this power; especially considering she is one of the main cast and therefore screentime isn't an issue. The few instances in Wano where Robin utilised her powers in conjunction with her wits felt like a breath of fresh air, because she hasn't done anything as clever or I should say Oda hasn't done anything as clever in like ages. This is the biggest gripe I have, with what is otherwise one of my all time favourite fictional stories.

Robin was and still is my fav character in one piece and I've gone absolutely mad when she never got a chance to fight in the new world. I literally watched her old fights over and over again and those were actually the ones with the best dramatic telling. I very much enjoyed them. Robin needs a come back, she was my favorite straw hat and honestly the biggest threat to the WG arguably second to only Luffy… it’s really frustrating. Tbh she needs to have Haki, and actually be involved in combat, and provide valuable information and be a sneaky spy. She really needs to have the second highest bounty again, I don’t really understand how she stopped having the second highest bounty considering her history and ability to read the poneglyphs. I understand that zoro and sanji are fan favorites but IMO it doesn’t make too much sense in universe, if the world government captures or kills her boom, luffy can’t be king of the pirates the void century remains a secret, disaster averted. Sure the straw hats could still be a threat but Luffy couldn’t become king of the pirates and the world government would most likely be able to stay in power. Oda did her dirty, she don’t include her in proper fights, don’t have her convey or learn important information but sure we can definitely spend time with her and Nami taking a bath?!?! Like come on now. Also bring back the cowboy hat.

Remember Robin is an archeologist, she hates fighting and only has to do so if she wants to. She is only strong because she had to, to survive. I really like what Oda is doing with robin, she is a scholar and only fights to protect now.

I know how you feel, but I've just assumed she's hanging back because she's gonna play a big role in the Raftel arc. Her skills as an archeologist will be put to the test soon enough. It's Robin's style to watch over the crew from the background anyway, and she's had some hilarious lines so I don't feel like she's being disrespected or misused. As far as personality, I got the feeling that she's much more relaxed and comfortable around others after the timeskip, so she doesn't put up as much of a wall of mystery. She's just chillin. Lending a hand or two as needed. We know Robin is important to the overall story and her time will come, plus we're in Wano where anything could happen.

I've always headcannoned that Robin doesn't fight or flex her op devil fruit is because her arc up until the end of ennies lobby was her realizing that she no longer needs to fight alone, basically meaning that luffy and the straw hats were more than happy to just have her along and not require her to assassinate people or anything. You can kinda see this in wano, as her skillset in subterfuge was actually needed for once when she took info from orochi, but otherwise she just leaves the work to the other staw hats. This semi-theory doesnt explain the criminal underuse of my fav straw hat but its how ive kept myself sane over the years haha

For me the most amazing moment in one piece was with Robin. In Navarone, where the crew landed she convinced everyone that she is a marine officer saving the whole crew from imminent death by playing mental chess with the marine captain in there. I remember when she joined the crew what a big deal it was, this OP character with a strong devil fruit and a high bounty that nearly successfully assassinated a Shichibukai on her own. And for most of the arcs after she joins she wasnt part of the monster trio in the way she acted, but she was also never in even the slightest bit of danger when facing basic grunts of giant beasties. It made a pretty fun dynamic in Sky Island when Nami was terrified out of her mind travelling with Robin and Zoro who could just casually take out anything that attacked her.

Besides Zoro, Robin is my second favorite strawhat/character of OP and considering what's happening in the manga currently things are looking up for the better.
