Honestly this stuff really pisses me off people like to complain because it's encouraged now. They are starting to do the same thing in hockey where we need to be more accepting of people that have next to no interest in playing the sport. It's just a load of crap the whole racism angle is given too much merit in the press which is funny considering the Nba is like 90% black but you never hear of that being racist. It's only sports that whites excel at that need to be changed.
@HallucinatingHedgehogs4 жыл бұрын
Chris D I get your point but at the same time 90% black is better than the probably less than 5% of black players on the nhl and the one black driver in the top three series of nascar. I’m not saying to promote people or give people chances that don’t exhibit the talent or have the right experience to race in those categories. But it’s always good to try to market and appeal to other races and genders so that you can not only diversify your driver pool but to also potentially expand your fan base.

The sad part is, I’ve been doing a lot of research myself on her and I’m one of the few blacks in my neighborhood that watch NASCAR. She knew how to hustle and manipulate the media too. Prior to her 2011 or 2012 CNN interview, she only did interviews touting her being the first African American female NASCAR driver to predominantly black news outlets like BET and Essence and this was around the time only 6% minorities watched the sport-so of course when you have such a small percentage of her people watching the sport and are absolutely clueless about it, of course they’ll believe her. I saw some of them and that was a fatal mistake on her part. I’m black and I watch the ARCA, Nationwide, and Sprint Cup series and I NEVER seen her on the entry list at all for any of the races like she claimed. I knew then that she was full of shit and lying. If you also listen to and read some of her pre-CNN interviews and including that one, her knowledge of the sport is at the same level an average Joe’s is that hardly watches it-and it’s not professional. She was giving half-ass answers back to the interviewee. Then when I saw her on CNN where the demographics are a lot bigger, my reaction is “oh shit, she’s in trouble now” and sure enough Vivian Bernstein called her out being a lie in the NYT. I been knew she was lying. During my research on Tia too, she’s sponsored by Mobi Web NBC and the address she provided too was of a trailer park out in the middle of nowhere and NBC doesn’t do radio broadcasts in no trailer park. I think this was to fool people that a major corporation was trying to help her. There’s also no proof of her using her money she collected from folks to practice or get on the track. She is a complete fraud and I’m surprised nobody went after her and she’s not in jail yet.
@Deathtofrogleghorn4 жыл бұрын
Another thing too that tipped me off too that she was lying is the fact that I subscribe to NASCAR’s newsletter, I’ve been following them on Facebook, I watch ESPN like crazy and follow them on Facebook too. Wouldn’t they have said something that they just had their first licensed black female NASCAR driver? That would have been huge news. She was under the radar up until she appeared on CNN. It was TADA, look at me. I looked and was like WTF? I never heard anyone within the BASCAR community really talking about her or any roomers of her. When I seen her on CNN and before that BET, I knew right then she was lying.

Norfleet was a con and nothing more and because people have a propensity to believe far-fetched tales he was able to secure funding and buy equipment. I pitched the truth, nothing! I formed a friendship with the Scott family and Wendell, Jr., Frankie, Debra, Richie King (first cousin) came to Lanier at my request to watch me race and I never exploited their friendship and think it is disrespectful how Norfleet and his daughter have been so cavalier with using the Scott name. Norfleet's antics back then caused me a lot of grief because NASCAR mentioned his name ad nauseam to me and I was always trying to convince them that I was nothing like him. Norfleet took the color angle and I took the road most traveled, I took the racing angle.

Funny story: I met Norfleet and on occasion would talk to him. Norfleet has almost convinced Ford Motor Co to sponsor him but with one caveat. Ford was going to have a factory backed team bring a raced prepped truck to Bristol and if Norfleet make minimum race speed Ford would provide factory support. You should do the same kind of story about that E2 Northeast Motorsports lady. Basically pulling from the same playbook as Tia. Claims to be the first black female nascar team owner and I’m pretty sure she just got some crew shirts printed for her and her sons...and that’s it.

Somehow you left race out of like 99% of the video. Great video. Love the racing community on KZbin. Nascar and F1 have such quality content creators
@ashleytester10494 жыл бұрын
I never heard of her or her dad. Also just from your video, and you presented it in a respectful manner. But the facts are her dad tried to play the race card to force Nascar to let him drive. They should have banned him from all Nascar events and locations for life. If Tia began racing all we would hear is the race card every time she failed to qualify or crash. It's bad business, and very toxic for someone to use racism to get what they want. I find it very offensive for her and her dad to be like that and lie. It put everyone in Nascar from drivers to crew to Nascar front office in bad situations

"Move over Danica Patrick! Here comes Tia Norfleet!" Danica Patrick: led laps in the Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500, won an IndyCar race at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan and could have won a nationwide race at Circuit Giles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada, was able to attract sponsors and intrest to the sport. I have some memory loss issues so I apologize for not being able to recall these 2 particular drivers names.. but there has been several "black" stock car drivers that not only did well but won and won alot. One of those guys raced at San Antonio Speedway in the early 2000's in their stock car division and either won or was in the top 3 every race. And another young man who came up through the ranks in the Nashville area who raced the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in the late model stocks won week after week, I believe driving a #4 with a pair scheme similar to the Morgan McClure Kodiak cars. I bet Waltrip or Sterling Marlin would know who I'm talking about. Culturally circle track racing hasn't been nearly as popular with people of color as Drag Racing has.

I waited to watch this video because I was expecting something worse than the truth. You've gained a subscriber. That said...I saw a clip @13:23 that showed a #34 car with an 'OXY WATER' sponsorship. That company was based next door to my brother's print shop in Lewis Center, OH...the pair that set up that company? Served prison time for federal wire fraud. Kind of an interesting coincidence, and probably the only 'other' reason I'd heard of Tia Norfleet before this. Again, good video and thanks for sharing!

I'm a black Kyle Busch fan and I love the idea of anyone trying to be a successful 2nd gen driver, however this is Fing Nascar. Nascar is one of the most challenging racing formats in the world. Many world champions and talented drivers from other racing formats have failed bad. So unless you grew up on a racing team, been driving all you life or your name is fuc'n Cole Trickle, if I don't see a long successful racing record in late models, open wheel, go karts, I KNOW we don't have a driver here.

This was really well done and fair reporting. Tia Norfleet is a story I periodically check in on just to see where it is these days. As a person of color, I love seeing other people of color break into sports we traditionally are not in. The problem is not everyone is out there with genuine intentions. Bobby clearly played the race card in his career when it was totally unfounded. NASCAR is one of the few true sports. A true sport is one where your life is at risk, so NASCAR is absolutely right to keep people out who could harm themselves and others. His daughter TIa is the same, play the race card, play this game of alluding you are something you are not. This is messed up because there are real issues of race and prostituting the race card minimizes real instances of racism. Look at what Bubba Wallace is actually doing. You have been more than fair in your reporting. Tia Norfleet is a grifter playing race to enrich herself and set us all back in the process.

The term “equality” is overused. You don’t see white people complaining about the lack of white cornerbacks in the NFL. “Equality” simply means non-white in the modern context. We don’t need affirmative action in sports. Let the most qualified athletes rise to the top. P.S. Don’t use “muh poverty” as an explanation either. Obviously there are drivers who have benefited from nepotism (Ty & Austin Dillon, Dale Jr, Chase Elliott, etc.) But any true race fan knows the impoverished south is where American racing was founded and built on. You don’t need to make excuses for entire populations of people. Just accept that some people don’t have the interest or the ability to race at the highest level.

I just have to say “Broklahoma Zoomer” May quite possibly be one of the best names I’ve seen on KZbin in a long time.
@Bodhes4 жыл бұрын
Broklahoma Zoomer But because black people come from poorer areas it is harder for black people to get into NASCAR. So they should get some opportunities. The case presented in this video is ridiculous and talent should be first. Also in a sport like a football it’s on a fair playing field and African Americans take to work harder.
@kimberlykennemore42284 жыл бұрын
Is this opinion coming from a minority or different culture? Surely to god you cant think we all get the same opportunities right? Look around nascar now & all of the backdoor driver/family/sponsor deals that almost guarantee a cup ride for no reason other than knowing the right people. I mean dont get me wrong you definitely have to have talent but black and brown people rarely get that access to sponsors and or funding to put those deals together. And if they do they're looked at with a side eye that no one else would get. Because its like where did you get money?
