Funfact - Brock is not "black" as in afro-american. His character is actualy closer to Okinawan fisherman/physical worker stereotype. People from Okinawa, especialy working males are very often in anime portrayed as very tanned, short, muscular people with almost always closed eyes and hardy yet friendly nature and love for physical work. Brock is actualy a positive portrayal of one of the ethnic sub-groups of Japan, it's hardly racist.

For the record, those perpetually closed eyes are called "fox eyes" I believe, because foxes in Japanese art are traditionally depicted with very narrow or closed eyes. In manga and anime, they're supposed to signal that the character is mischievous.

Brock is awesome. the episode when they find Charmander abandoned by its trainer was the episode that changed my perspective of him just being super thirsty. I think the way Brock treats women is brilliant to show children, in the same way that Johnny Bravo was. It shows kids when they grow up that if they act that way towards women then the feeling wont be given back. What I meant was that he devalued the women by overvaluing the concept of being with any of them. He valued his attraction and the image in his mind over the actual person; he loved the fantasy which was then applied over whichever girl was available and changing it to fit them (as long as they were attractive enough). Don't get me wrong, I love the guy and it's because of his flaws that he felt like more of a person. I mean, does your man really love you if he feels the same way towards your sister? Is your girl really your girl if she tries it on with a guy in the next town? Sure, some guys use "it's a numbers game" to go after more girls at once but again that's more about the conquest than the actual girl. He did also know more about them and their differences but that's the same way people feel about celebrities; they dont love the person but the image they have of the person. Knowledge doesn't equal feelings in the same way that outrage is not a good way to determine justice. Brocks a good guy, he has his flaws but that doesn't mean he's a bad guy. Flaws don't nullify his better qualities because we don't live in a clear cut black and white world. Maybe I'm looking at it too hard. I think it was an important message to get as a kid, even if I'm only getting it years later :P Sorry for the long read guys.

I loved Brock! Every tricycle needs a third wheel, and Brock was THE third wheel. Also, his character is actually very defined in the show. His personality doesn't clash with a lot of asian stereotypes besides being a pokemon doctor (sometimes), and the eyes. He's empathetic, a total comedic relief, absolutely obsessed with chicks, and always has a pokemon to cock block him. He's been with Ash longer than anybody ever throughout the series. Can we just have a Brock series?

Brock is the oldest of 10 children, plus he was forced to parent his siblings for a while when his parents were gone. It put a lot of pressure and trauma on him until his father returned home and finally released him of the responsibility. That was when he was finally free to travel the world with with Ash and Misty and pursue his dreams. I don't think he's quite over the mommy issues though, hence the relentless flirting.

I still don’t see it as a problem. Honestly I think it’s more racist to assume anything black with big lips is representing black people. I’ve never seen jinx as anything but a cartoon creature. They're actually designed by someone who did tons of realistic Pokémon artwork. So he tried to have them look more lifelike. Not so much realistic, but with more attention to muscle movement and details.

My favorite character was Misty, I was so mad that they took Misty that I watched the next couple of seasons in a huff and finally quit after a couple of seasons with May and Max and then one season with Dawn. @@boygenius538_8 Because from late-Kanto, through OI, and throughout Johto, Ash and Misty had begun to develop romantic feelings (probably the most obvious during the OI episode with Rudy, and in the 2000 movie), and when they realized that the games were going to continue they knew they had to sell them via the anime one way or another. I think brock was the perfect design. He could be interpreted as many different races and he was portrayed as the coolest person of the group. He was the smartest, most levelheaded, best cook/caretaker, and had a hilarious and unique(mainly to the western audience) personality that made him just so iconic.

In Québec, they called them jelly filled donuts like in the US. All the Pokémon have the English names in the Québec dub as well, and the voice actors are the same as the French dub, so it confused the hell out of me when I watched French episodes.

The reason given for Misty never coming back is due to the creator's belief that they need a stream of cute new girls for Ash to travel with and maybe crush on. Misty herself was originally a fully planned character but the ones that followed her were just accessories for Ash which is kind of sad. Even after fans pressured the creators on the issue they acutally outright said that was the reason. They really believe that Misty's character, what she added to the show and the fans that loved her is not as important as a rotating roster of cute (underage) eye candy.

To be completely fair about Brock seeing 100 of twin sisters and being able to tell the difference between them being creepy some people could see that as romantic. I see both sides, as that does give a heavy stalker vibe, but being able to remember such subtle details about someone to make even the most identical stand out in a crowd is a bit heartwarming. Lets say your partner saw you in a crowd of 50 of yourselves, and walked past all of them without a second glance just to get to you because they know the smaller details about you that even you may not realize? In a day and age where people can't even remember someone's fucking name, that's a pretty strong compliment to show that you're willing to remember someone's minor details to such an extent. Flip sides always exist, because that also can be seen as 'creepy' and I completely agree with that as well.

Honestly, I just think about all the identical twins I've known in my life. And it just makes me wonder if he's ever known any. When you talk to *any* two identical people, you look for ways that you can consistently tell them apart, whether you're attracted to them or not. I knew two guys who I had to identify by their shoes... As a disclaimer, I like Brock a lot, and think he's a great character. I respect your opinion on this too. He definitely pays attention to the people around him. Additionally, while the humor in the show included him fawning over girls frequently, he wouldn't do that when he actually thought he was going to date with one of them. It was noticeable when Brock was not in the show anymore and I liked the character, but I did not hate Tracy per se. I always found that his skill in sketching wild-pokemon was a neat thing. And I wanted to be able to draw/ sketch like that when I was younger. Also I never really thought Brock his design was (possibly) racist. Honestly, for all the times Brock was just trying to get in girls' panties, the times when he did take note of their actual idividuality (such as the Officer Jenny thing) actually made me feel like he actually cared but just wasnt mature enough to stop hitting on every piece of ass he saw. Also, in diamond/pearl they gave him a croagunk that would punch him whenever he tried to flirt, so i think overall he probably got ripped off. I dont think brock is in the anime anymore, i remember someone telling me they got rid of him for black/white, unless he came back again.

You may or may not know, another reason why food items were changed in the dubbed is so that when the show is relicensed the other countries could make use their own food reference to make the show their own. Eric Stuart, aka Brock and James from Pokémon was the voice director for seasons 1-6 and he has explained in his panels the reasons they change food references. Just thought I would throw that out.
