Man, I thought I was the only guy alive who missed Goldie. It's been lonely out here, brother. I think the entire thing basically comes down to what I call the 'Boxification' of the UFC. My opinion is that WME wanted to push the sport into mainstream legitimacy and they felt the only way to accomplish that was to replicate the presentation style of boxing. By which I mean they wanted that element of 'old men talking like they've just awoken from a seven-year-long nap.' Essentially they thought that if they presented that UFC's violence as exciting then middle America would fear it like it was a Marilyn Manson album released the week after Columbine. So out went Goldie, out went the heavy metal intro and in came coma commentary and those God-awful intro monologues that sound like they were written by Chat GPT running on a ZX Spectrum, read by Ron Perlman with all the passion of fully-clothed missionary position sex, followed by a handshake and an apology for inconveniencing the other party.

Goldberg was just an abysmal commentator tbh. He was a play by play guy who couldn’t do play by play and didn’t even try. Was totally ignorant of the sport and martial arts in general. He couldn’t even pronounce anyone’s name correctly or even know where they’re from. There’s absolutely no way he ever did a minute of research or prep for a broadcast. Joe carried him for years until he couldn’t anymore. Eventually the audience got familiar and knowledgeable enough with the sport that Goldy’s incompetence couldn’t be hidden, couldn’t be ignored, and couldn’t be dismissively laughed off. Once the product gained an ounce of mainstream credibility, his antics stopped being funny or somehow endearing and just became a unwanted nuisance. He was just a feckless, incompetent goof who constantly interrupted the guy who was doing both of their jobs all night…and it was proven when he attempted to do commentary for other sports.

Know-it-all Joe constantly sandbagging Goldberg and having the point out every little mistake he made made him look worse. Don't get me wrong, he got a lot wrong, but Joe never missed out on an opportunity to let everyone know he knew more than goldberg.

Dana could invest in a presentation of the fighters before the fights. Such as Pride used to have, instead of spending everything on what makes his head grow.

Slash is the best guitarist ever??? Are you fucking mental? (: Have you ever heard about a dude called Jimi Hendrix? I mean slash is good, very good, but Jimi invented modern rock guitar. He did things nobody had done before him. Probably you could compare slash with Jimi in terms of technicality, but in no universe in terms of creativity and virtuosity. And I think even slash would agree, because he is a decent guy.

@cattycats42 ай бұрын
You didnt bother to research anything really, massive disrespect to Superfoot, completely ignored Don The Dragon Wilson and Jeff Blatnick and then you started talking up Joe Rogan as if he was some super educated grappler back then, he wasnt, he didnt know any more than Jim Brown back then he came from a Taekwondo background not Jiujitsu Goldberg didnt focus on the UFC either he worked multiple jobs including commentary for Poker during the same time Anik is the commentary version of a scam caller, he has the most dishonest voice , hes the AI hype man , he derails all ongoing excitement to shamelessly plug sponsors in the wrong moments and everything he says comes across as aping others rather than anything genuine. Rogan was at least genuine and Goldberg was there do do the hype man job but he was genuine in himself. I thought that you must have been trying to be sarcastic about Anik but you actually arent, that explains a lot.... DC thinks everyone loves him and that he is a good guy but he absolutely isnt, I never thought about muting the UFC until Goldberg left. Dana is the real problem and you talk him up because you never realized that , very good entertaining commentators like Quadros, Rutten, Schiavello, Frye and more got overlooked. Dana the psychopath wanted total control and disgraced the sport by not signing Fedor and the rest and the commentary team also suffered from it. Dana has been the captain of a ship that shouldve been far more successful but without the capacity for emotional intelligence it wasnt even on his radar, hes been forcing the idea of if Im the only one to carry this thing then I will carry it further than anyone ever has and start pretending nobody else could do it. Insulting to anyone with common sense but it seems like glass cannon doesnt have any common sense... They even have the graphic of Bill "SUPERFOOT" Wallace in the old UFC did you think he was a fucken shoe salesman? He was one of the most polite and well mannered badasses youd ever see, it made the early UFC presentable for normal people who didnt know anything about it, not armchair warriors with 30 years of hindsight to sneer at. Wallace wouldve destroyed everyone if it was kickboxing rules even at his later age he was a LEGEND, and he knew that which is why he could afford to be so nice and goofy, he wasnt repressed like Rogan doing his serious face during weigh ins there was nothing BS about Superfoot. You can watch it back and laugh at him and his Goldberg esque mistakes but youll also laugh with him, todays UFC has none of that charm, its edgy corporate BS. Screw your AI pictures

I completely disagree. I’ve been watching for years and yes there have been bias commentating. But, if it’s not DC, Joe and Anik, then it’s not a UFC event. It’s just not the same to hear Dominick Cruz, bisping and Anik. They don’t have the same chemistry as Joe,DC, and Anik. They have chemistry and that’s what makes it perfect. All three of them do a great job, and it works. However, I did really like Goldberg, wish they kept him around, had good chemistry with the others and those iconic liners he would say. When you watch our cast right now, it almost feels like 3 friends who watch fights.

The fact that Laura Sanko of all people is the only slightly good addition the commentary team has seen since "that fateful day" is really saying something... Other than that it's been a pity-job/loyalty reward for retired fighters who shouldn't be anywhere near a commentary booth.
