Love your style of commentary. No overdone, sudden jumpscare music or tunes to overexaggerate a story, just a simple sombre melody and a very informative narrator.

@ That was a rumour. Candy wasn't known as a serious drug user, if at all. Candy had weight issues throughout his adult life and was a heavy smoker. Neither is good for your long term health, especially the older you get. John Candy was carrying around a death warrant, but not because of drugs and booze.
@AtomicFire1972
@AtomicFire1972 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheSeanm102 Hartman was just careless and naive. A psycho, druggie bitch of a wife and an unsecured handgun under the same roof is a bad mix. No matter how much care about, or have invested in, somebody like that, some people are beyond help. Especially if they are unwilling to help themselves. In that case, for your own health and sanity, it's sometimes best to just cut your losses, grieve for your loss, and move on. And Hartman's troubles didn't just pop up out of the blue. He went through a long period of psychological and physical abuse at the hands of that woman because she loved her "fix" more than she loved the man who tried to help her and save their marriage (that he cherished,; a rarity in modern Hollyweird). And the gun should have been unloaded, locked away to where only Hartman had access to it, and the ammo secured separately from the weapon as long as she was under the same roof. It's bad to say, but the truth isnt sunshine and rainbows. Hartman played with fire and got burned. While his wife was the actual criminal in this case, Hartman could've taken steps to protect his own ass.
@FlyingFocs
@FlyingFocs 5 жыл бұрын
Well, Candy's was more brought on by weight, Hartman was murdered by someone ON drugs, and Kinison was sober at the time, but killed by a drunk driver (to the nest of my knowledge). Really, I'm more disturbed by the similarities between the deaths of Belushi and Farley.

So, if you get involved with the Atuk script, and decide to make changes to it, and have a history of drug or alcohol addiction, obesity, driving, or marrying crazy people (don't we all), and have also been involved with Saturday Night Live, you're going to die young? That sounds like less of a curse, and more like statistical inevitability. Well done, though. :)

This video paints script changes as somehow evidence that it's cursed and I'm just... That happens with every movie ever, especially when movies go through creative changed which again is not that uncommon. Things as often rewritten to suit new actors, or for many other reasons. Just recently Uncut Gems had 160 different drafts of it's script. And that's a movie that actually came out and didn't even change writers. Then there are all the movies that change writers, directors, actors and producers. And there are the doomed projects like Neuromancer that has been in some kind of production since the 90s and has had dozens of people attached only to go nowhere. Or the film adaptation of Atlas Shrugged that was in development purgatory for over 40 years. This stuff is nothing rare or unusual and neither is actors dying of a drug overdose. So yeah I'm putting this up to statistical inevitability.

True, but I'd argue the notability of the names involved around the certain script still makes it weird. Not saying it is a curse, in all likelihood it is coincidence, but I can't really fault anyone for thinking otherwise. Maybe fittingly for Hollywood, this does sound more like a plot than a series of unrelated events.

John candy wasn't the healthiest of people, but his death wasn't because of his health. Hours earlier before his heart attack, he had been filming a horseback scene for 'Wagons East' when he was involved in a serious accident and thrown from his horse. He refused medical treatment and went back to his winibago to rest. What he didn't know was that the accident had caused internal bleeding, haemorrhages and a torn heart valve, and this caused a fatal heart attack. This would have been the outcome whether he was overweight or not. If you don't receive medical treatment with those symptoms, you die.

Sam Kinisen's death was just so sad. After getting his drinking under control, a asshole drunk driver kills him. Then you have Phil Hartman. Every time I hear his name. I can't help but remember his farewell skit with Chris Farley on SNL. Phil holding Chris like he was comforting a child, while looking directly into the camera, and saying goodbye. Was just so heartbreaking.

You know Farley had tons of good prescription opioid painkillers and tranquilizers, money, and top shelf booze. He was ready to party. I would have taken the drugs and money, but still would have called the paramedics

I was in a band in highschool, mostly for fun, I'm 24 now. We'd do small tours around the southeast when we had time off from school. Over a period of 2 years, bad things started happening to all of us, and anyone directly associated with the band members, starting with things like stolen instruments, break-ins and robberies, and building to stuff like a kitten dying unexplainably, nearly fatal car crashes and family in-fighting to the point of divorces. A fellow band put on our cd in their van while driving to a gig and were immediately T-boned at an intersection. This all culminated in the deaths of two of our members within a month of eachother, seemingly of unrelated causes, and myself moving away from our town to try and get away from the misfortunes we were constantly experiencing. It was too strange and complex to properly explain in a comment, but me and the only surviving member of the band still talk to this day about "the curse of AfterEnglish" and how we both felt we were going to literally die if we didnt get out and away when we did. Life is weird.

When misfortune hits too much one is entitled to questions. An exorcist I know told me that he had to exorcise and free an opera singer who got preternatural troubles after singing an opera aria containing a curse...The content of this script doesn't look like weird nor devilish, nor it is implausible that all of these actors died out of drugs, alcohol and similar excesses, given their way of life, but one should keep a large perspective and ask himself whether something preternatural was involved, maybe out of other reasons - for example, generational spirits or involvement in some very serious evil.

That looks a lot like exponential growth. A very folksy, but not wholly inadequate way of describing exponential growth goes like this. It grows as it goes. In other words, the more people who find out about this channel and share its existence with their friends may cause it to grow rather more quickly.

Maybe it's something to do with the fact that the main character is Inuit, and all the people slated to play him were white? Some angry, vengeful native spirits, perhaps? Honestly, though, most of these dudes lived crazy lifestyles, and the Hollywood film industry is pretty incestuous by all accounts. Everyone is somehow connected. I'm sure one could draw parallels like this with pretty much any given group of dead movie stars/comedians/writers/etcetera. I just found this channel, by the way, and I'm loving it so far. Jack Alope exactly!! They were all awesome, hilarious, talented, *caucasian* guys. Back then, most white people wouldn't realize that putting on bronzer to play an Inuit or First Nations character would be offensive. They wouldn't have considered putting on blackface ( unless it was a kind of social commentary, like Bamboozled, or ridiculous comedic character about that very thing, like Tropic Thunder) but any other culture was fair game. People back then thought they were being progressive if they had one or two non-white characters in their show, and even then, they were either overtly stereotypical, or badly written and whitewashed. The pendulum has really swung in the other direction now, however. I almost feel like people are a little too sensitive these days, but hopefully things will even out soon, and we can all just be humans. The gods know the pendulum has been stuck on the shitty, hateful, racist side for too long now. It'll be nice when we humans get to the point where we celebrate different cultures, love and respect eachother, and be in a place where nobody has to censor anyone's speech or thoughts, because we'll all be empathetic enough to not say terrible, prejudiced shit and mean it. Where you could tell a transgressive, sick joke, and people will realize you're being facetious, and you're not really a racist/sexist/homophobic piece of shit. I look forward to that day. I hope we humans can find that perfect balance in all areas of our lives, before we fuck up the world worse than we already have. Whew! That was a total rant! Go, me!

I mean, unaided chemical addiction is pretty difficult to control after a particular point of severity - there's a reason people can get off cigarettes fine but just cold turkey on something like an opiate can kill you - but there's help available and an unwillingness to consider it can't entirely be blamed on the addiction. When our pride shakes hands with any other of a person's numerous failings it can get people killed. Not always necessarily that person. The argument for my own hubris in this response could be pointed, depending on how I came off unintentionally.

I think that the question needs to be asked that, if there was a curse on the script, then why did it not affect far more people? After all, many people involved in these production attemps would have handled, read, or even edited the script. Also, the SNL connection is not a strong one, as SNL is a sort institution in show business, with a great many celebrities appearing on the program either as long-running cast members or guests. I think that these tragic deaths are primarily the result of the dangerous effects of substance abuse on those both those who use the substances and people around them.

Hmmm, I thought I saw somewhere a while back a photo of the SNL team with Chris Farley with them in the shot, with the title or headline saying “The Curse of SNL”, or something to that respect. Can’t quite recall if I read the article or not, but knew the great actors mentioned in the The Curse of Atuk dying way before their times. Belushi and Candy I have almost all of their films; Farley I have 3 or 4; Phil Hartman, a couple. Comedy somehow ‘died’ for me around 1997, as the men I came to admire had all passed away replaced by others I can’t really follow. What gets me is that the woman didn’t want to help Chris Farley out in the room. That’s just plain wrong. 😔 RIP great buddies. I know you’re up there somewhere above us...and what would they think of the World today they left behind? 🤔 Thanks for getting this story out there for everyone. 👍

Very interesting. Chris Farley's death was inevitable - he truly went bonkos in 97. He is the funniest guy I've ever seen in a movie - he has the comedy dna strand, doesn't even have to try. I saw his last appearance on snl and it's pretty sad but hard to stop watching at the same time. There's loads more to all these stories - recommend the doc on farley. Apparently Andy Dick re-introduced hartman's wife to coke and Jon Lovitz hates him for it and punched him. Poor hartman! What a nice guy and if you listen to simpsons commentaries anytime troy mclure is on they rave about him and always seem devastated as they realise hes dead everytime. He was also really good in small soldiers. Sam Kinison was also cut down way ahead of his time. Doesn't seem like these tragic kind of celeb deaths happen as much at all anymore due to increased control over them through minders which makes sense from a business point of view. It's only a pity comedy actors today completely suck and don't have a patch on these legends.

Hey there, new to this channel and immediately subscribed. I'm really enjoying the few episodes I've watched so far (and totally planning on binge watching the rest of your content), quite entertaining and just every aspect of the production is fantastic. I really hope you continue to put out the types/kinds of stories like the ones I've seen so far. After reading through all the other comments posted here, I really hope you continue following your instinct on how to present the stories you are telling. So many of the comments make it sound like you are desperately trying to convince the audience that this is 100%, no question or doubt about the existence of this curse and that it was the sole reason all these amazing comedic actors were taken off this world. When (at least to me, and God I hope I'm not alone here) find it very clear that this script being one of, if not the last script or role that each of these actors had before their tragic and untimely deaths, is at the very least a true, interesting, and certainly eerie fact. Obviously their health and/or addictions played a major role in their ultimate demise, but seriously... To everyone saying that this curse is just total bull and clearly isn't a real thing, which title would have been more likely to peak your interest into watching this video, " The Curse of Atuk" or " A bunch of awesome comedic actors from the 70's to 90's that died due to their weight and drug abuse". Point being, you are doing an awesome job putting these stories together and presenting them in a very clear and concise way that is also most entertaining. And last thing I'm gonna say, to the few people that felt the need to comment about "whitewashing" films... First off, take off your woke hipster 2018 goggles and remember that these actors were being considered for this role between the 1970's - 1990's. Back during the amazing era of hire actors to act as and portray a character that differs from whom the actor really is in real life! I know it may be hard to believe or even imagine, but there was a time not so long ago where movie studios didn't have to actually board a ship and travel into international waters risking their very lives just to get actual pirates to be in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film. Second and perhaps even more important (or rather more obvious) is that movies cost a whole lot of money to make. Yes, even before the days of a team of IT guys (and I'm not trying to downplay or degrade the work of all the people doing CGI work these days) doing just about every scene in the film, there were crews of very talented individuals who would work for days or even weeks working to build all these amazing sets and locations that you would see, just to see it literally blow up, as in real explosives and real fire, and only one single chance to get that scene shot and filmed before watching everything they had been working on for weeks on end literally being blown to hell right before their very eyes. Yes, even back in those "primitive" days of filming, it costs a ton of money to make a real legit Hollywood movie. Well hell, I've gone this far so might as well just complete the entire lesson... After watching a movie and the credits start to roll ( you know, the part where all those pesky names continue to scroll on and on while you're just waiting for that last 20 second teaser clip, just hoping for an awesome easter egg to drop), well those are the names of all the people who worked to make that movie experience possible for you. And of course just about everyone knows the actors names and maybe even the Directors name. Then there are the people with titles like Producer or Executive Producer. See those people it turns out are actually quite important. You see, if it wasn't for them, that movie you just enjoyed would not have even been made, because they are the people responsible for putting up the absurd $150 or $200 million that it cost to actually hire your favorite actor, or attain that visionary director, or even pay for the teams of people that work scouting locations, making sets/props/costumes, etc. Now, even though I'm sure most of those producers love the final product of the film, are proud of the fantastic work that everyone put in to make that movie come to life and entertain viewers. But if you were in their position, would all of that be enough of a reward for you? Would you feel like seeing the look on the faces of patrons coming out of the newest blockbuster movie that you helped produce is more than enough compensation for your share of that $150 million you had to shell out so that film could be made? Now maybe I'm totally in the wrong here, but I imagine unless you are just a crazy multi-billionair who is just trying to find a way to burn through as much of your fortune as possible as fast as you possibly can, that the answer would in fact be a resounding no. That money that you had to shell out from the start of the production process wasn't just because, or for funzies, but was actually really an investment, kinda like a loan, just like those crazy bankers (sorry, don't worry, no more tangents and this is finally getting wrapped up I promise.) Now consider that you are a producer for this Atuk film. Now clearly it's not the kinda major picture that is going to cost an outrageous amount to produce (relatively speaking of course, the run of the mill spring release rom-com's total cost is a mere fraction of the cost of the highly anticipated summer action flick). When a particular movie is being made that does not have vast appeal to the widest possible range of potential movie-goers, it doesn't have the draw of the newest exciting sci-fi movie the likes of which has never been seen before, or appeals to the almost overly loyal (and let's be frank here, just to be left disappointed far more often than not) total horror fans. Nor is it the newest in the seemingly endless production line of chick flick that of course have there own guaranteed viewers. When none of those apply (and when you actually sit back and really look at every new movie released just at your local theater over the span of a couple months, a majority of movies fall in this line) there are only a few ways to try and bring in as many people to watch your film as possible. And without a doubt, the absolute easiest and best possible way to draw in as many people ( and ultimately $$) as possible is by what I said when I first mentioned those pesky credits... Just about everyone knows the star of the movie. Normally I would be tempted here to say, "believe it or not" but in this case, it's just so true and obvious that if you don't agree it's simply because you just can't bring yourself around to realize that the specific actor chosen for a role has the potential to bring in people to the theater that would otherwise never even consider watching that particular movie. Now I doubt anyone will ever even see this comment turned short novel, let alone actually read this post that just went on far far longer than I ever thought or intended. It's too bad too cause I really wish the people who posted a comment that I specifically hit on here would take the time just to consider what I've said and really my ultimate hope would just be that everyone just chill out and enjoy the awesome content you are producing for all of us. I again apologize for going on this long and I swear I'm not in any sort of way, in the habit of posting insanely long unnecessary rants like this. I don't know why, there just seemed to be one too many people posting the same things that were just in no way constructive to you and your channel or just seemed angry at basically nothing and for really no reason. Anyways, that's it, I'm done. If there is actually someone who's gone as crazy as I have and actually read all this then seriously major kudos and props to you. And please feel free to add anything or respond with your opinion whether you agree with me at all or not. I swear here and now not to post another crazy book long response (Lol unless that's what is wanted of me) as well as I'm not going to get upset / become abusive or swear at anyone at all. Only sensible and reasonable debates and or discussions. If you just can not engage without basic sense and decency then don't bother trying to start anything.
