See when you look at it from a theater perspective it’s really not that bad as a play but as a story and book it’s awful. I think most of the thought process behind making it was how much of the wizarding world could they show on a stage and the actual plot came second. There are a lot of plays (wicked for example) that skim over some details or forget things from the source material bc it’s so much easier to make a play that looks pretty rather than holds well as a story -a theater major who studied the cursed child for almost two years

Interestingly I actually really disliked Hermione becoming Minister for Magic, because for however talented and strong she is, she is *not* the sort to schmooze with people or make friends easily. She's honestly not great at interacting with different people in general. From the very first book on, Hermione alienates her peers at school. In the third book, Hermione's so determined to be right about Trelawney that she can't even properly offer comfort to Lavender Brown after her rabbit dies. Unlike Ginny or Harry, Hermione is incredibly judgmental toward Luna, even while being ostracized and bullied herself. In the fifth book, even though it's initially her idea to have Harry teach the others DADA in what would become the D.A., Hermione's nervous talking in front of everyone and she isn't the one who gets everyone on board: Harry does, and honestly, rightfully so. I'm sorry, but I can't see a person like Hermione excelling as a politician, and as much as we wish it wasn't so, that IS what a Minister for Magic has to be. I could very easily see Hermione being the Head of Magical Law Enforcement, maybe Supreme Mugwump of the Wizengamot -- hell, even an advocate for house elf rights and other marginalized groups within the Ministry. But if we're talking the ACTUAL Hermione Granger from the books, rather than the idealized one from the films that scrubbed her of all her flaws, that isn't a person I could see pursuing or being elected to a position like Minister for Magic. Besides this, though, I really like your choices, especially Albus/Scorpius's romance-that-the-writers-are-determined-to-call-a-bromance and the little bit where Ron purposed renewing his and Hermione's vows. I would also like to add one more good thing from this dumpster-fire script, if I may! The scene at the end of the play featuring Hagrid and baby Harry was the one section in its entirety that my similarly Potterhead mother and I thought was a valuable addition to Harry Potter canon. You can even divorce it from the rest of the play and still enjoy it, and it really made us remember how much we've always adored Hagrid.
@Le_re110218 күн бұрын
They actually made changes to the script in the past couple of years to point towards Albus and Scorpius actually being romantically involved. They’ve cut out Scorpius’s crush on Rose and adjusted dialogue (eg. “this new version of us I had in my head” is now just “this new version of us”). The conversation between Harry and Albus in the final scene is also changed a little bit, Albus has a line where he tells Harry that Scorpius is the most important person in his life and may always be the most important person and is interpreted amongst many as a sort of coming out scene. Plus (although it’s not the writers who said it) one of the Scorpius actors said that he sees Scorpius as bisexual.

TBH, I also like that Albus is a Slytherin and how he feels about it. It's been a while since I've read the book, so maybe I remember some things wrong, but to me it makes perfect sense for a teenage boy who is the son of a hero to want to outshine his father and feel bad when he isn't as talented as he is and fails to live up to the expectations set of him. Of course he will be ambitious. Plus Albus and Scorpius being outcasts together really helps evolve their bond

The stuff back in 1980 even though it breaks previously established rules of time is extremely heartfelt. Most notably the conversation between Ginny and Harry about Albus and what he needs from his father. As parents we often forget to love our children unconditionally. Especially when we are also influenced by any personal bias. It's probably my favorite moment in the entire story.

You missed the single best thing about the story: Draco’s redemption arc. Draco forsaking the Malfoy legacy by marrying a muggleborn was a great start, but to make him a tragic figure as both a widow and a loving father was terrific. There was even a point where he genuinely had the moral high ground on Harry regarding the friendship of their sons, and seeing him work with the trio at the end was a satisfying end to his arc.
@MovieFlame23 күн бұрын

@ sounds like even Rowling doesn’t realize how good of a job she did at making Draco a sympathetic character and setting him up for a redemption arc. In the new revisions of the cursed child play that’s been on stage post covid, Albus and Scorpius’ relationship has changed into a more explicitly queer and romantic one. By the end of the play they are interrupted before a kiss, and when albus speaks to Harry afterwards he tells him scorpius is the most important person in his life and might always be forever. I saw the show on tour in September 2024, so the most recent version at the time. It seems the writers have changed their minds and decided to lean into the queer subtext and make it canon. But then again, there’s also reports of a new revision of the play coming soon, so who knows, they might change it again.
@MovieFlame24 күн бұрын

@ I saw it September 2024 in Chicago. It’s on currently on its first national tour in the US.
@redstar31224 күн бұрын
@ if you Google the cursed child revisions there should be some articles about it . I think the changes started in 2021 or 2022 but this was my first time seeing it in September since it’s on tour. But yeah I’m pretty sure if you look up the reviews of the revised performances they will address albus and scorpius’ change to a romantic relationship. There’s even a scene in the alternate reality where Voldemort killed harry, Snape is trying to teach Scorpius to fend off the dementors and tells him to think of the thing he loves more than anything in the world. And Scorpius yells Albus’ name.
@MovieFlame24 күн бұрын
@@redstar312 Yeah digging deeper all of it seems to not be true. The only revisions they made were to make it more family friendsly (which unfortunately means they would probably tone anything gay down which is fucked up but that's the world we live in). Everything I see is about their relationship does not come from a credible source. Pretty much everything is just speculation. Nothing about a kiss either besides on reddit and fan couple pairings. Maybe you misinterpreted it? Maybe the actors improvised something that wasn't in the script for that specific show? Either way I don't think that's true.
@redstar31224 күн бұрын
@ I see why you’re skeptical to believe me. You’re right there doesn’t seem to be any major articles about that aspect of the revisions and the possible “kiss” interruption scene I will admit that was ambiguous. I would just say you need to see it for yourself if you care to while it’s on tour because outside of the actors performances, there were a lot of dialogue changes from the original script, particularly from scorpius’ end, that made it more apparent their relationship was romantically budding by the end of the show. But like I said, this was just the most recent revision at the time and who knows how they change it in the future going forward. Anyway great video! I love all your Harry Potter content :)

This book is so hard to finish, even though it is one of the shorter books it has taken me the longest to read (I've not even finished it) and I thought Order of the Phoenix was hard to go through. Oh well, at least we can agree this thing should never exist and refuse to acknowledge its existence

They could have used a powerful spell attack or overly powerful Buggart to make Harry relive this scene.

Honestly, a west end and Broadway run of the first two A very potter musicals in the place of cursed child would be miles better than cursed child, cos at least Avpm is aware that it breaks canon. And it doesn’t actually matter. That would be so iconic

This story had potentional! I wouldn't mind a bit of new "Wizard ex machina" and multiversum stuff like in spiderman if they would at least avoid stupid retcons from the books! Without any "Ron and Hermione needed to fell jealous to be together and only this way they can be happy" Delphini potetnial as a character and villain works but the plot doesn't. I personally wouldn't mind her thinking she's the daughter of the dark lord, sience Harry thought he or Draco could be Slyterin decendances and he never questioned Tom Riddle in second book. And sience Delphini story was suppoused to be the "dark parrawel" to Harry's. It would make sense to make her "the chosen one" who is manipulated by deatheaters. Mostly Rudolphus Lestarange to think she has some bigger purpouse, but in reality she would be just they're tool, like Harry was to Dumbledore. This would work. And maybe they should make her daughter of Rudolphus instead of Voldemort. But I disagree about the blanket. It was only for a plot and very cringe. He could have give him marauders map. Maybe Albus would find a room of requirement? This would suit him well, for an edgy bad rep slyterin boy. And someone please explain to me why Scorpius simps for Rose? And why is Rose so awful, and without redemption ark?

I liked how Scorpius and Albus are pals and I hate how the writers missed the opportunity to use Rose Weasley in the text. I mean, I've seen fanart comics and fanfiction that develop her character and her relationship with Scorpius in particular.

One of the many things wrong with this play: Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Delphini should not be able to see Godric’s Hollow, as they don’t know the Secret (the house is under the Fidelius Charm and only the adult Harry, if anyone, should be able to see it, since as a baby he would have been told the Secret). It could have worked for fantastic writing, for only him to be able to witness his parents’ deaths and for the others not to be able to experience with him.

10:31 Also Harry dying can’t happen either, because Voldemort is still alive and Voldemort used Harry’s blood to regenerate his body, so Voldemort acts like a in the words of SuperCarlinBrothers “Lovecrux”. Therefore, it wouldn’t matter how many times Voldemort killed Harry he wouldn’t die.

I wish jk Rowling would’ve written this story as a book and made it better than the original writers. 8:15 best friend.

@@MythStarFire I agree. She needs 350 pages minimum to express herself. The Potter films were made with the knowledge that they could cut things and the story would still make sense, as a very high percentage of viewers had read the book (I think David Yates claimed that). It led to some choices being made that would not be supported if the books hadn't been there as the skeleton. JKR should write the stories and leave the adaptation for someone else.

Lethal Weapon never missed. Even the National Lampoon's parody version of it doesn't miss.
