I am a Han Chinese. I am on Tibetan people’s side. This is actually quite easy to explain. When democracy returns to China, when people are startled by the amount of money that CCP spent on suppressing Tibet, there would be no political groups, no provinces of Han people willing to spend that money for no good business. Dalai Lama is doing a favor for China.

The Tibetan Prime Minister lives in a dream world. He thought Tibetan should be granted independence but by whom. He is able to gain financial and moral support by sympathetic Europeans who has learned of Tibet through Hollywood romantic movies covering the ruling class ( 5% of the total population). Time has changed. The former serfs are almost gone. The descendants now are free, better educated and well equipped to fit in the 21st century. The clock cannot be turn back. Even Dalai Lama recognizes it. This marks the end of the feudal system there.

sence 1720,7th dalai-lama made a negotiation with the Chinese emperor: Tibet combined with China that means Tibet has been one part of China then China sent troops to Tibet and let dalai-lama have the true power of religion and politic in Tibet( Before, dalai just had religious power). And the time came to the 1911, the last dynasty of China was overthrown by Sun Yan-sen, then Tibet searched for independence and sent a message to the new Chinese government mentioned that, but Chinese government did not allow this kinda independence. But they couldn't offer troops in Tibet to keep it under controlled cause of the wars against different countries. Then Tibet entered a half-independent condition which was said "independent" by many of countries. But the time came to 1949, the PRC was founded by Mao Zedong and he decided to reclaim the Tibet and then forced dalai-lama signed an agreement in 1951, Chinese People's Liberation Army entered Tibet peacefully which was said "invaded" . LOL, recognize what the truth is plz NG hahahahaha

It only says so much when two authorities not willing to work together. I think chasing the history of who owns what or what happen really doesn't help in this scenario. No one from both sides willing to workout for the people. In the end, It's always easy to root for underdog or patriotic for mother country. It doesn't matter in the end. China includes Tibet, Tibet is independent; people must suffer till no end it seems.

nightsage217 Do you know why did dalaï-lama exile in the end of 50s? Because the Chinese gouvernement abolished the regime of the Tibet which was slavery, which is never be announced by the US media and the European media. Then, the slave masters in Tibet who supported dalaï made an big insurrection, Chinese gouvernement pacified it. Dalaï was forced to flee, as well the tons of slave masters. Maybe you don't believe what I said but this is the truth which was recorded in the form of photographs and footages. This is the history, learn the truth with history instead of media. Dalaï --- the biggest slave master in Tibet got Nobel peace prize? The biggest joke that People made. If Nobel was still alive, and he saw this. I think he must be killing himself.

at this point, really hope people of Tibet have improvement in their average wealth, health and other spiritual stuff. I don't think Dalai Lama & flammable monks are really helpful in grand scheme of Tbet growth. I dont expect Tibet suddenly becomes ultra super country under his ruling. Who knows? May be they don't want economical growth at all. Because humans are weird. China did a lot of work in Tibet, I hope people gain benefit and make use of that. Hope. And yes, Nobel will not see this coming. :D

Talk about Tibet issues and future, no matter what happens, a stable life which is full of happiness for the Tibetan people is the most important. And!👍 Be a reasonable person is very important as well

The most important "thing" in life that Buddhism has taught me is that I must live at peace with myself to be of any benefit to our planet and mankind. It saddens me when I read some of the narrow minded comments below this video, and how many times the thumbs down button was pressed. I see a very confused M.Ware, this is probably because of all the pain and hate he has seen in his life being a combat reporter, and I hope that he learns something from this interview. Mankind needs to see that without pure compassion our planet will never be a place we can all be proud of. (jmho).

I don't know why you had to bring Korea/Japan up here, but now that you did, I'm sure your country these days will never, ever teach about what kind of hellhole Korea was before the annexation, as American researchers have been saying Korean and Chinese textbooks are full of baseless fantasies. I suggest reading, for example, Isabella Lucy Bird's journals or watching some of professor Choi Ki-ho's videos.

1. Was Tibet an independent country before 1912? Tibet was an independent country before 1246. From 1373 to 1578, Tibet rulers paid tribute to Chinese Ming dynasty government many times. In 1642, Dalai Lama invited a Mongol tribe’s troops to come into Tibet to fight other opposite Tibetan groups. Tibet was then controlled by this Mongol tribe. This Mongol tribe voluntarily submitted to the Chinese Qing dynasty in 1653 for Chinese support to defend against west Mongols. In 1705, Chinese emperor abolished the 6th Dalai Lama for his violation of Buddhist obligation, and ordered him to be arrested and sent to Beijing for punishment. He died on the way. Since 18th century, Dalai Lama had kneed down towards Chinese emperor’s picture many times during ceremonies. China posted a garrison in Lhasa from 1751. Tibet respected Chinese government’s sovereignty, which is typically shown in the selection of the 10th Dalai Lama in 1822. Britain and Russia recognized Tibet as a part of China in 1906. China ruled Tibet directly from 1910 to 1911. Since Manchu are Chinese citizens and support China’s claim on Tibet, Chinese regarded China after Qing as a legal successor of Qing dynasty. (In fact, Western countries made sure China became the successor of Qing dynasty, so that China could continue to pay the huge ransom owed by Qing to the West countries after it was defeated in 1900.) 2. Was Tibet an independent country between 1912 and 1950? After the collapse of China’s Qing dynasty in 1912, China witnessed a lot of civil wars and warlordism until 1949, but did not denounce its claim on Tibet. Tibet never declared independence towards China or other countries during this period. (The 13th Dalai Lama himself denied (to the British) that he had ever authorized the Russian subject--Agvan Dorjiev, to sign a treaty with Mongolians on behalf of Tibet. So, that 1913 treaty is not valid.) USA officially recognized Tibet as a part of China in 1943, way before communist China existed. No country in the world recognizes Tibet as an independent country, or officially regard Tibet as not a part of china, or officially regard Tibet as occupied by China. 3. Did Tibet has opportunity to defeat Chinese invasion in 1950? Tibet is huge and has very high altitude and very thin air which is difficult for Chinese to breathe, let alone climb mountains. The total length of road which a 4-wheel vehicle can drive in whole Tibet was only 4 kilometers in 1950. Chinese has to across many high mountains at very high altitude for 2000 kilometers to get to Lhasa. There was little sources of food or even water. In short, Tibet was a perfect place to wage guerilla war on Chinese troops, and that is exactly what CIA recommended to Tibetans. In 1950, Tibet had about 100,000 bolt rifles and many Tibetans were hunters and can shoot very accurately over long distance. If Tibetans used guerilla war to attack Chinese supply line, Chinese troops will starve to death and have not way to advance across 2000 kilometers of mountains (without road) into central Tibet. Instead, Tibetans choose to sign the peace liberation treaty after only two hundred Tibetan soldiers got killed in the Chamdo battle in 1950. In short, Tibetans had good chance to defeat Chinese in 1950 if they really want. But it is impossible in 1959 since China had built 3 roads (totally >4000 kilometers) and bridges into Tibet since 1950. 4. Why Tibetans rebelled in 1959? Before 1956, most Tibetans were serfs, and most lands were owned by noblemen and monasteries. The part of Tibet (central) ruled by Dalai Lama enjoyed very high autonomy within China from 1950-1959. China launched land reforms in the Chinese directly ruled (east) Tibetan areas in 1956, taking land from noblemen and monasteries and distributing them to the serfs. Rebellion led by noblemen and monasteries broke out in east Tibet in 1956, with independence as the slogan to get support from serfs, and spread to Lhasa in 1959, encouraged and supported by the CIA. 5. Does China repress Tibetans and practice cultural genocide? No. Besides, there is a long covered fact (by all parts involved) about China and communism. Chinese communism was created with the help of Soviet Union, and controlled by Stalin. After the Second World War, Soviet Union supplied Chinese communist troops with captured Japanese weapons including 2700 artilleries, and produced ammunitions and weapons for communists in Russia-occupied China’s north-east. USA organized an international arms embargo to the troops of Chinese anti-communist government. Chinese nationalist government troops were poorly equipped with little artilleries and ammunition. Communism caused at least 60million Chinese death. The truth is: communism was forced upon to Chinese by Soviet union with the help of U.S. So, China should not be blamed for the destruction of Tibetan culture in Cultural revolution in Tibet.

Humeas Mora I can't understand why the interviewer asks a question of the dalai lama, and then turns around and answers his own question! I wanted to hear what the dalai lama had to say. The interviewer's objectivity also appears to be nonexistent in his interview with the prime minister. This is so poorly done, it feels like click bait. Yes, Tibet was invaded. And noone can distort the fact that they were better off after that. The variant of Buddhism the Dalai Lhama stands for (Yellow Hats) is not the peaceful religion they want to make us believe. In fact it was a brutal theocracy that "clamped down" - as you put it - the people in unimaginable ways. Or what do you think the torture chambers in each and every monastery were ment for. Dalai Lama wish on "not having independence" of Tibet was never ever a truth. Look this guy what he is talking or dreaming. He and his unholy group would wish that the feudal system of enslaving the poor Tibetans could return and he would be sitting at a throne surrounded by his officials enjoying the cruelty inflicted on the slaves like the gone by years. Return the people to caste systems of India so he could rule once more.

Samoht Li so this is the fruit of brainwashing by the CCP of Chinese people huh. The reality is that we tibetans in exile just want for tibetans within Tibet to be able to preserve our culture and heritage and practice our faith freely. Do you think it’s too much to ask? For 20+ years that’s what the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people have been asking for 100% I assure you. I don’t know if you know this but the Dalai Lama holds zero political power at this point as he voluntarily and happily endorsed and pushed for democracy for the Tibetan people. Please educate yourself not with Chinese propaganda but with real facts outside Chinese government media.

Tibet, Bhutan, Myanmar all these small nations along the Indo- china border are under threat from china. Also, they are growing their presence in Nepal and na-pakistan, but as the guy said in video, we know the tactics of china and the extent to which they can go for their false territorial claims. There is no winning for them if you take a longer horizon of say next 25 yrs. We both cannot go to war obviously so destabilizing each other and breaking up through proxies is what we'll do. Winning war through thousand cuts. They had good strategists like Tsun Zhu we had great ones like Chanakya. Against all odds, (mughals and british empires to the current ones who are not in power) India has prevailed for its righteousness and will reclaim its glory. Its a long war you just make sure you're on the winning side.
