Can't believe this series won't be continuing. Everything about this show was phenomenal. Art direction, storytelling, voice acting, music, all of it. In my opinion this not only met but exceeded all expectations and standards from the original film, and with better humor and more emotion and character depth than most big name movies that come out now. Most prequels and revivals of old beloved titles don't even come close. I hope the Jim Henson team can find another way to continue their story.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you say, watching this series was like going back to the 80/90tys when there was still REAL magic in anything they created in movies. I grew up with movies like Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, The secret of Nihm, A land before time, Total Recall, Terminator, Jurassic Park etc...Now THOSE were the days. Nowadays they bombard you with excessive hyperactive CGI, lame storytelling, dumb humour, and brain-dead actors.

I hope they find a way to do it in TV or film. The magic is not the same if it is a comic or novel. Besides, they did do a manga before, I think, but it became non canon after Age of Resistance so any printed media will likely be vulnerable to being declared non canon

@@reginaldforthright805 No, not at all. Netflix already said it was too expensive to produce without bringing in enough new subscribers. Their model isn't based on keeping existing subscribers satisfied but bringing in new ones, so they'll keep scrapping older series and creating new ones to keep fresh subscriptions flowing while ensuring that older subscribers see their favourite series get scrapped over and over. It's a meat grinder for shows.

I remember reading somewhere they sold off the puppets, props and sets already. I don’t know how true that is, but even if they’re all just sitting in a storage container, these things degrade over time if they’re not maintained and might not become usable anymore. I LOVED this series. Straight from seeing the final episode, this series deserves so much more love than it currently gets. The sheer creativity, heart, passion, and love for the world Jim Henson created is just wonderful. Literally EVERY character was a joy to watch and see. Every episode was a piece of moving art, teeming with life. Words can't express how devastated I am to hear they aren't finishing the series on Netflix. BIG mistake. IT LITERALLY JUST WON AN AWARD. Season 1 is a triumph on all levels. As a lover of the original film I could have never even dreamed a better realization of this series. The sheer intricate detail of Thra, and it’s vast multitude of creatures is absolutely astounding. Yeah, i couldn't agree more. Anyone that is on the fence about watching this needs to pull their heads out and get to work. I remember the movie when i was young but didn't completely love it because of those damn Skekis who repulsed me but i watched it again later on, and the myth and lore is so good. This prequel series came out of nowhere for me. I hadn't been paying attention, and then i caught the teaser which was intriguing. Then this masterpiece of a trailer dropped and i was entranced. Whomever created this trailer needs to reveal themselves right here because they deserve so much praise for just how hyped up it makes you. I've started watching the show, I'm only halfway through it but holy hell the love, care and respect for Henson is all over it. The world building, creatures, music, aesthetic, puppetry is stunning, and i have to talk about the voice acting because the weight and gravitas that the actors bring to the puppets is something else. It's also dark, and as much for adults as the children. A certain scene at the end of episode 1 broke my heart and was so brutal in it's callousness, and then the Skekis monologue over the end montage set up just how serious and heavy the story is. All I'll say is that whatever this miniseries goal was it achieved it, and so much more. It has an epic lord of the rings, great fantasy saga feel. It tells a story that was only hinted at in the movie, and sadly we know, especially with the 80's movie lore that however long this prequel runs for - it doesn't end well for our heroes. I can't wait. \0/

They tried to do that a few years back, but it never got off the ground. It was called The Power of the Dark Crystal and the screenplay was later adapted into a comic book. They have said that they have plans for two more seasons of this show and more stories set in this world.

I agree that it's better without CGI but those puppets look so fucking wooden. They way they talk is just ridiculous. So much has improved in the way of puppetry since the original Dark Crystal and it really would've helped if they made those mouth movements a little more realistic. They've created a great landscape for these characters to live in but fell really short when it came to the puppets. If Jim Henson had the sort of technology available these days at his disposal back when he came up with the first movie I doubt very much that he would not have used it. He would've jumped at the chance to make the characters more realistic if he could if he had the technology to do so. Will be giving this one a miss. After the anticipation of seeing a a follow up to a film I loved as a young kid I'm pretty bummed out that they didn't put as much efforts into making the characters less stiff, less wooden and more realistic like the beautiful land they inhabit. They've improved the fairy tale landscape dramatically but didn't even try when it came to the central characters. All I can see is a bunch of wooden puppets. If Jim were alive today I think he would've done more to bring the characters to life. Just like me I think he would be disappointed that they makers of this series didn't even try to make the characters more realistic in the way they express themselves. Netflix is starting to have little regard for proper visual storytelling, they run a show until it's profitable and then cancel it out of the blue. The more indie type shoes tend to be viewed less that main stream crap like the kissing booth... They care more about quantity and not quality. Some shoe runners are able to be firm about it having a limited number of series, but netflix turns many of their shows into sitcoms essentially. Hopefully they will do more shoes like the queens gambit, with only one or two seasons. Even the speed at which they shoot seasons tells you alot. HBO spends a year shooting and makes quality content, netflix puts out 3 seasons in the space of a year and a half. When I watched season one of caos, I hoped it would come back every halloween, and stopped watching it after season 2 because it started to turn into riverdale...

This is the best thing that has happened this year. Its as dark and full of mistery and wonder as the original film and watching the Skeksis interact with each other is such a pure joy. Every character (but specially the Skeksis) feel so palpable on screen, every wrinkle in their beaks, the angles used by the camera, the voice acting... thats the thing with marionettes and puppets. I like how the Gelfling are presented as a basically decent people with their fair share of flaws, while the Skeksis are depicted as very cruel, sometimes quite scary and very theatrical, but at the same time very vulnerable when facing their own mortality. All in all the best tv event from 2019.

Damn, this really brings a tear to my eye. My dad showed me the movie when I was a kid in the early 2000s and I remember not being too impressed with it back then. When it came to movies my dad was more into Westerns and John Wayne, but when it came to fantasy films there were two movies that he really liked, _Willow_ and _The Dark Crystal. The Dark Crystal_ was actually one of his personal favorites outside of John Wayne movies. For me, it was _Willow._ Sadly, my dad passed away at the end of January, 2019. Seeing this trailer gives me a new appreciation for _The Dark Crystal_ and I'm overjoyed that Netflix and the filmmakers are sticking with Jim Henson's vision rather than going totally CGI like anyone else would. It's been far too long since we had a practical effects heavy film. It's a shame that Jim Henson will never see this and it's also a shame that I won't get to watch this with my dad, because he would have been excited as I am now. Thank you Netflix for bringing this to life! Just please, _PLEASE,_ don't screw this up in the writing department. Too many good films/series have been ruined because of dumb writing and forced in PC bullshit. I don't want to see the same thing happen in _The Dark Crystal._

Willow was my favourite movie by far, I had it on VHS and watched it all the dang time. I introduced my friends to it too. I just finished this. My quick two cents: It never shys away from the HORROR elements and damn like.... If you seen it holy crap! They GO there. Never, EVER, underestimate Jim Henson Studios. They are the real deal when given the chance to do what they do best. And this is them in peak form. This show was awesome. It definitely went places I was not expecting it to go. Dealt with things I wasn't expecting it to delve into. It felt so real because life has darkness, and light, and the show had both. I saw the movie as a young child and am now watching the series and I am absolutely enthralled in every episode!! The creators did an amazing job on keeping the original look and the storyline! They use props thereby creating sets that are so intricate as well as puppets with a little CG. It's so well done and so much artistic talent went into putting this together. They even have people who worked on the movie, working on the series! It's just absolutely wonderful. My favorite characters are Deet and Brea! I highly recommend watching especially if you loved the movie and even if you didn't!!

4 years later I still haven't forgiven Netflix for canceling Season 2. This was such a good show on every level. I've given up on Netflix, but if a Season 2 was ever greenlit with the same cast and creative team, you can be sure I'd be back in a heartbeat.

THE GREATEST SHOW I’VE EVER SEEN!!! Sow much hard work put in to making the show. it oustandingly complements the original. i love the characters. Hup, deet, the heretic, rian, etc. all made me laugh and cry and just fully dive into the franchise. the soundtrack is stellar. the story is phenominal. it is a masterpiece. and nothing eill every be like it. except the original. PODLING JUSTISTA!!!!!!!
