With respect to Nicholson, Leto and Phoenix....Ledger brought something beyond unique to the Joker in that performance. Unpretentious, fluid and mesmerizing. He owned the screen in every scene. You forgot anyone else was in the scene with Ledger every time he appeared. I feel a little sorry for the great actors who have played the Joker since because although their portayals are excellent, they don't electrify the screen the same way Ledger did. Truly a talent that will be forever missed.

As someone who vividly remembers when news released of Heath being cast as The Joker, I can verify the fact that a lot of people were shocked and upset about it, myself included (maybe not upset, but definitely very weary). However, when the first trailer dropped, I knew I was wrong, and the movie proved it. Hands down, one of the most iconic performances in cinematic history! It's so sad that he didn't make it to experience the response from the world towards his performance.

@@barriniho Brokeback Mountain was well received. But I think it's fair that sometimes it's hard to dissociate an actor from a certain role. Sometimes you can't unsee it lol in this case, however, it wound up not being an issue. Actors know this, btw. If you become too associated with a particular franchise, ad series, whatever, it becomes harder to find other work. Them's the bricks.

Ledger was truly one of a kind - even in his worst films, 'he' was always amazing. His attention to detail in everything he did, from every bit of body language and vocal nuance, all of it was immaculate. Cinema and the world of art and creative storytelling is poorer without him in it.

Without a doubt, this was one of the best acting performances of all time. He had the ability to fill the screen and get the audience by just entering the scene. For me at least, top 5 performances. Respect to Nicholson, Leto and phoenix, but Ledger was way beyond.

Honestly Heath really hit the golden ratio developing this character.. we'll spend YEARS analyzing what this man put into creating that character. It was just done too good. The shear nuanced mannerisms can never be recreated

I think that one thing that makes Ledger Joker's disturbing is dat crescent song in background It starts, and when it starts you can't see the ending. It goes, goes, and he still talks, and wave hands, and walks, looking and limping into everyone souls. Gosh! He enters the scene, the background enters too, and when he's get out of it, we are exhausted.

It's insane how 16 years later the man still is in our minds and no one can beat him with the Joker part. Not only the Joker, just the acting skills he put in to this. It's insane. Every time i finish the movie i feel a little heartbroken. Because then i know this man will never be coming back, and it's just so good. He played it insanely good.

It's amazimg how many times actors were deemed to have been "miscast", who nailed it. Keaton as Batman, Ledger as The Joker, RDJ as Iron Man, Hemsworth as Thor, Jackman as Wolverine, Craig as James Bond, to name a few.

@@wanderlust1334 bro, everyone cracked up about Keaton as Batman when he was announced (the fanboys didn't like the idea of Mr. Mom being Batman), the British press tried everything to destroy Craig as Bond before he had even shot a scene (because he was blonde and couldn't drive a manual car), Jackman was an 11th hour pick (and a very unknown actor picked to boot), for Wolverine because Dougray Scott became unavailable with MI:2 went over time with the shoot, and the studio didn't want RDJ as Iron Man because of his past.

If this makes you feel a little better, so in a christopher nolan interview ( here on youtube somewhere if you search " christopher nolan on heath ledger interview" nolan says how the the last time he saw heath they already started putting the movie together and he called heath in and showed him the first 7 minutes of the movie and obviously, joker is in all of the intro, and apparently heath was thrilled with it! so sad he didnt get to see the reaction and all of it but its better than him seeing nothing right :/

Crew members of the dark Knight movie and the director of the imaginarium of dr Parnassus talk about how happy he was to play it. Even Heath said it was the most fun he ever had with a role, even if it did take a bit of a role on him stamina wise, it’s not what you think. Him mixing many prescribed pills because of stress and insomnia from a variety of reasons is what caused his death, not the Joker.

Overall, I've soured on the Dark Knight over the years but my appreciation for Ledger's performance has only deepened. Even Phoenix's take doesn't hold a candle to THE Joker. And yes, I was one of the people who didn't understand his casting before seeing the movie.

There is literally no one I can think of who *became* their character for 2 hours other than Heath. Watch him in interviews, he is a different person than the one on screen in The Dark Knight. Maybe part of the notoriety of this performance is the fact that he passed so suddenly, but I really don't think so. I think he would have gone down in history regardless. Props to Mark Hamill, Jack Nicholson Joaquin Phoenix, and all the others to nail the role. But Heath *is* the Joker.

I've watched The Dark Knight so many times but I'd never seen Batman 1989. Apparently it was absolutely huge during that time and I watched it a few days ago. I like Jack Nicholson but Heath Ledger's joker is so much better. And tbh Heath was just a better actor and easily the best actor of his generation. Heath Ledger's joker is by far the best joker we'll ever see

I remember following this movie closely as a teenager in the later 2000s. The news of Heath Ledger's death shocked me and my immediate thought was that the role consumed him. I remember going to school the next day with a homemade "Why so serious?" t-shirt, because they didn't have any official merch yet.
