@Johnathon Davis You're right. Both fights with Bane in this movie indirectly references Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" in which an older Batman coming out of retirement physically fights the leader of the Mutant gang who's younger, faster, and pure brute strength. Batman tries to match his ferocity in the first fight, and would have been killed if not for interference. In the second battle, however, he uses his cunning to fight the mutant leader where his movements and strength are hindered, coming out victorious. Bane is clearly stronger, younger, and faster than Batman here (as evidenced by him demolishing the pillar in blind rage after his mask was ruptured), Batman used his cunning to exploit weaknesses, making up for a slight deficit in physical strength, and takes out his opponent.

I think it’s a callback to Bane’s more monstrous form in other adaptations of Batman, where his “Venom” drug turns a smart but weak villain into the hulk. Since that makes no sense in a ‘real’ world, Bane’s Venom-equivalent is pain. The more pain he feels, like when Batman disables his mask, the wilder and physically stronger he fights. Notice how in the shot right before he hits the pillar, he basically backhands Batman out of the frame.

I really wish all the fights in the movie were that intense, but I don't think Christian Bale would have been able to keep up with Hardy, especially in his batsuit which was very restricting for him. After seeing Hardy in Warrior, it makes Hardy's fight scenes in Dark Knight Rises really boring. Tom Hardy is an amazing combination of being a brilliant actor and beastly fighter.

What really makes this scene is when Bane starts freaking out at 2:26. At this point, we are able to see what really drives bane, his urgency to win. And we also see his true anger behind his mask. We also see why he was excommunicated. Rhas al ghul said he was like an animal, and this scene clearly displays it in such an extraordinary way. At 1:50, at least for me, I really get a sense of how much Batman is willing to defend for Gotham, you can see all his strength being put into just simply fighting one man. LOVE THIS SCENE. This fight is definitely the best one I've seen in any superhero movie. It's so realistic, you see how Batman starts with little advantage, and later on manages to break Bane's mask so that he worries about something else, making him more anxious while fighting and having less focus, Batman keeps focused and dodges Bane's punches and waits for the righ time to attack. Fantastic.

***** how can you compare animated fight scenes to this fight scenes. Have you been in a fight before? or seen those MMA fights or boxing or some bar fights? of course, bar fights would be less coordinated since it is performed by drunk amateurs, but this fight is realistic because every punch counts. in those arkham origins batman can land unlimited punches without a breath and counter attack everything which is impossible no matter how good you are. Have you ever punch someone? you will realize how much energy you actually use to land a punch. this is why the fights here are slow but powerful. less jabs and punches but every jab is hits hard. wow how can you compare this movie to a freaking animated fight sequence? unbelievable....

Bane is also dangerous, but more calm and sophisticated. They're both close, but I like Bane a little more.

***** Clearly you need to be taught the difference between good films and excellent films. The Dark Knight trilogy are the best superhero films out due to more depth within the story/plot, and the fact that the second film pretty much revolutionised cinema because Nolan (that genius) employed IMAX cameras for wider and more amazing shots. Chris Nolan movies have so many hidden meanings it takes repeated watchings to fully see them all. This scene is a great example. Look closely at how batman physically wins against each of his main villians (Razor Al Ghul- Batman Begins, Joker- The Dark Knight, Bane - The Dark Knight Rises). You'll see one main similarity in these three victories -He uses deception and his spikes on his suit to temporarily distract them. So what is the hidden meaning? In the first movie while being mentored by Raz Al Ghul, he is taught to Always be aware of his surroundings (In other words, to not think of the future nor past but to live in the present) . But he doesn't learn this lesson right away and loses his first training fight with Raz Al Ghul on the frozen lake, then again when Raz burns his house down. Eventually he wins by using Raz' own trick against him. So if batman symbolizes the best in us and the villians symbolize the worst then what it means is we can defeat our inner demons if we simply live in the present; don't worry about the past or future just in the now and take action . Great theme.

Not gonna lie 2:25 - 2:46 is pretty damn engaging to watch. I just wish the entire fight was like this. The pounding score, the tactical hits and counters each of them throwing at each other, everything just feels like its ramped up and it's pretty epic. Everything before this bit in the fight felt slow and dragging even though the scenery was visually stunning (a war breaking out between cops and mercenary henchmen surrounding Batman and Bane). The first fight in the sewers is clearly the better fight scene from a dramatic and visual storytelling point of view, but I do think this particular section of this 2nd fight is the best of the film.
@sambafreak1310 ай бұрын
Agreed. Unpopular opinion here, but I never found most of the fight choreo in Nolan's films to be that compelling (much as I love the films themselves). I think the fight style they developed for him (using loads of elbows with his arms kind of over his head a lot) was cool conceptually but didn't translate well to the screen, and in so many scenes it honestly doesn't look like those elbows are doing much damage. The impact always felt kind of soft to me. Just my two cents. This bit here where they are both swinging for real looks a lot better IMO.

I love this fight for being just a man on man street fight. I don't care if it's not like the comics because you know what, Batman is just human. Batman shouldn't even be here, he has a fucked knee and back and his spirit is at breaking point. But he comes back and fights (even if limited to a regular man's fighting ability) and still wins. Comic book faithfulness would just be out of place, because Batman is human and sometimes we meet our match. Sometimes we have to RISE to make ourselves better and meet the challenge. That's the beauty of Nolan's adaption and what makes these movies great. The comic book would have limited these movie's potential in my opinion
@Filthy_Larry3 жыл бұрын
Nah but I see you’re point. In the comics, names weakness is more severe than just pain in the body. Batman damages his wires and went full steroid mode which fucked bane up a lot or another one is his body becomes a skinny crackhead. At least Batman and robin got that one right despite being the shitiest Batman movie ever made lol. This game was cooler but his weakness was tamed in this movie.

This is one of the most original fight scenes that I have ever witnessed. If you watched the movie, you would know that this fight isn't just any typical fight between a hero and a villain. It actually shows the amount of frustration between batman and bane. But, it also shows how cunning and patient batman is. He lands every punch at banes face in an attempt to break bane's mask and remove the anesthetics. And, I get why people compare this fight scene with the winter soldier but, keep in mind that this fight isn't about how flashy every punch and kicks were made. It's about winning and inflicting the most amount of pain possible to each other. The winter soldier and cap didn't knew who each other was until later in the movie so you would probably get a tactical fight between two people. But this fight is different. It's personal. Batman is fueled with his rage and a hint of revenge for losing to bane and not being strong enough while Bane is enraged by the fact that he didn't destroy the batman even though he completely obliterated Batman in the first fight.
@jackdubs2510 жыл бұрын
This fight shows exactly why Batman is such a LEGEND. After getting his butt whooped the first time, along with a broken back and shattered confidence, he rehabilitates himself back into shape, climbs out of the hole, comes back to Gotham and beats Bane by using Bane's incredible amount of strength against him. It demonstrates why Batman is the SMARTEST/most prepared superhero in the game.

Matthew Bugeja The characters weren't very real IMO. Always giving canned motivational speeches to each other. That tainted the movie for me because there were a lot of corny speeches. No subtlety whatsoever. No showing the audience what each character is going through with body language. They explained everything. I especially hated two face.. That guy can't act and his story is way way more compelling the way it was in the animated series where harvey has split personality disorder. Not just some pissed off burnt face man running around with a gun. Also Bruce Wayne isn't very likable to me. I don't know if it's Christian Bale who just can't play a normal person or if the directing just wasn't very good but Bruce Wayne just came off as weird and jerky. Pretty much the opposite of what Bruce Wayne is supposed to be. It's like they were trying to write a Tony Stark lite and not Bruce Wayne. Basically I had a hard time giving a shit whether any of the characters lived or died. I mean I didn't care at all when Rachel died because she spent the whole movie as a motivational speaker and not a real person. Other than those things the movie was great to me. I still like Batman Begins better though.

Why is every Marvel fan here comparing Captain America vs Winter Soldier with Bane vs Batman ? Both Captain America and the Winter Soldier are trained, super soldiers. Captain America can get thrown off a highway like a dummy and then smashed into a bus and he doesn't get one scratch. The Winter Soldier can kick people in the air look footballs, or throw them like ragdolls from the window of a moving car easily. Both Bane and Batman are non-powered humans. Most people also forget that the last time Bruce Wayne was Batman before the movie was 8 years ago (at the end of TDK), as a result his muscles and martial arts wore off, making him weak. He also made this rash decision of confronting Bane in spite of Alfred warning him about it, it was shown clearly in the movie, so before you start whining like some bitch, get your facts straight. I loved this movie, and it was beautifully done, except for Mi Oh, and the CA: TWS had at least 5 times as many plot holes as TDKR.
@kevinderr67509 жыл бұрын
I agree, thank you for addressing this. In fact, the Dark Knight Rises really didn't have any plot holes. People point to Bruce Wayne's return to Gotham as a plot-hole, and they need to try harder than that because that is most certainly not a plot-hole. We even saw him sneak himself abroad in Batman Begins *just* for the sake of getting arrested. This time, it was to save his city. In the Dark Knight Rises, Bruce Wayne was *still* rich, he wasn't broke. If being broke means living in a mansion and moving to a different country with your loved one, then sign me up. Besides, Bruce Wayne probably has more resources than Barack Obama. Sending the majority of the police force underground? Nope. Not all of the cops were underground, and nobody would ever expect Bane to trap them by making the football stadium collapse. It's called Bane being a brilliant strategist. Batman making the Batman logo and wasn't spotted? Because the entire city was in court. He was also sending a message to let people know that war will start. I've heard them all. The only thing that I consider to be a plot-hole is the fact that Bruce Wayne was extremely muscular throughout the entire film, despite being out of shape for 8 years. But that's more of nitpicking as opposed to exposing a plot-hole.

I know this is a month old comment but Batman is much more aware of how Bane attacks along with the info about how the mask holds the pain. He actually attacks the mask and manages to damage it then starts to dodge Bane's attacks near the glass door because he knows that the pain is making him go crazy. Batman looks for the right oppurtunity to hit him at that very point.

@K-One5829 жыл бұрын
justinjacques766 Really? It looked like to me he specifically used his gauntlet spikes to break the tubes.
@JRA61929 жыл бұрын
Pay attention. First fight: Batman was trying to match Bane for raw strength. His mistake was severely underestimating Bane's ferocity, as well as not knowing the gas in the mask literally makes Bane immune to pain. He tried his usual Keysi Method shoulder-centric blows thing right off the bat. Bane took these in stride. After that fails, Batman tries to go for power-based hits with some wide-swinging punches. Does nothing. Bane continues to let Batman try to subdue him through sheer power, and eventually Batman tires out, attempting to distract Bane and sneak up on him in the dark. Total pwnage there. By then, Bane had him exactly where he wanted him: tired, panicking and wounded. It was a foregone conclusion Batman being beaten, since he went into it overconfident AND caught off guard by Selina's betrayal, forced to immediately engage Bane in battle when I imagine his original plan was to sneak in, do some Arkham City-style covert take downs of Bane's goons, and then engage Bane last. Didn't happen that way. Second fight: Batman now knows that the mask is essential to Bane not feeling his blows, and so this time, he takes a completely different strategy. Watch the footage. Batman is mostly on the defense this time, letting Bane wail on him first. Bane at this point is pissed Bruce is back and wants to just pummel him to death, and of course....this is his weakness, his incredible arrogance and impatience. It drives home how he is not so different from Bruce. Anyway, Batman lets Bane punch him up a bit, before climbing to the top of the steps and deliberately waiting for Bane to reach him, giving him a 'come get me, you bastard' pose. Eventually he finds an opening to slice the tubes on the mask. Watch carefully: as Bane's trying to hit him right before, he seems to be moving unusually slow. Bane looks like he's either tired out from having put his all into punching Batman earlier, or he is losing focus out of shock and worry that Batman is doing so well. So yeah, Batman finally damages the mask, and from that point on Batman need only keep hitting at him when he gets more openings and not give Bane a chance to breath, so to speak, which has the effect of making Bane panic his ass off and finally snap like a twig (the pillar moment). BIG mistake on Bane's part. Had he tried to remain under control despite the now-intense pain he was feeling, he could have recovered his ground. But instead, he panicked and lost his temper, and that gave Batman the chance to subdue his now-unfocused opponent. So yeah, there is a visible difference in strategy between the fights. Bruce DID learn and alter his method/mentality from the first fight, and this led him to victory. Whether or not the fight choreography was excitingly-shot, that's a completely different argument.
