This parenting reminds me of how messed up my mom was. Me and my 3 siblings all had 1 single color coded cup, one cup for every single drink, and one mug for hot drinks. We were NOT allowed to use other cups. One night my sister was thirsty so she got up in the middle of the night, went to the kitchen, and her cup was dirty from the previous night, so she grabbed a different cup. My sister got yelled at the next morning when my mom found the cup by her bed. She got grounded "indefinitely" meaning whenever my mom decided to take her off restrictions, then she would but there was no time frame. (A lot of times I'd be grounded til for example Tuesday, then Tuesday would come and my mom would decide I didn't learn my lesson and needed another week to "think about my actions." But that's not the wildest part, because while my sister was grounded, she became severely depressed, considering she wasn't allowed to do anything except sit on her bed in her room and stare at the wall. So my sister decided to run away. She ran away, my dad went and got her, and then she was grounded indefinitely AGAIN, AND had to write 10,000 sentences that said something like "I love my home life and my family and vow to never disrespect my family by abandoning them" something so psychologically messed up. My poor sister was grounded for around 9 months. No computer, no internet, no TV, no playing outside, no video games, no reading for fun, nothing. She was allowed to breathe and that was it. For 9 months. Bottom line, don't have kids if you wanna be a controlling SOB.

@@breathoffreshair7795 It does get more complicated. You must know your child really well to know what to take away from them and what not to. When you have to disipline your child, make them fear you greatly, but- BUT... Do not make them fear you without lesson and love. Fear is the fire in their flower fields. And the love and lessons you give them is the sun. The thing they did wrong are weeds killing the flowers. Burn their garden to kill the weeds and regrow it with your sun, but frequent fires can damage and slow the regrowth of the flowers, so keep restraint and encourage complete growth before you must destroy it again. Be wary, do not burn the whole field, for flowers need to be left to start growth again, but when flowers are left, weeds will always be left within those flowers to continue to contaminate their flower field.

My step dad tried the military approach when he came into my life in middle school. He's military. It made me depressed and anxious and caused a lot of problems because I was already suffering from ptsd from being raped from 8-10 and never seeing therapy. I tried to kill myself by 13 and then I was constantly having emotional breakdowns until I moved out a month after turning 18 and almost completely cut off contact aside from holidays. Also I feel exactly how you do about being a disappoinment to the point where if I'm not over achieving in every aspect of my life I feel like a complete failure but I also don't give myself credit when I do accomplish amazing tasks.

Also where she says “My kids are not welcome to live with me after they turn 18” really breaks my heart because my parents are the complete opposite. I was 18 when I graduated high school and a few months later I moved from South Carolina to Texas to go to college. Due to financial issues, I could no longer stay in Texas. My parents dropped everything, drove halfway across the country, and came and got me and brought me home. They welcomed me with open arms and are the pure definition of grace. I couldn’t imagine what would have happened if they had turned me away like Ruby says she would with her kids. I’m 19 years old, and while I’m still an adult, I’m still learning how to support myself and get to where I want to be. Just because you’re a legal adult when you turn 18, doesn’t mean you’re completely ready to do everything on your own. Sometimes we just need to lean on our parents, so who will those children be able to lean on if their own parents won’t extend a helping hand?? I didn’t mean to write a book but Ruby’s whole thing just makes me sick to my stomach.

There was access to the basement level patio via sliding glass doors (later changed to French doors for safety reasons). The upstairs, the main level, also had two large bedrooms with 2 large walk in closets each. My grandparents later converted one of theirs to an en suite bathroom. ANYWAY. The house is frigging huge. The whole food thing was terrible. I'm 15, so obviously I can cook some things myself but my mom mainly cooks dinner and sometimes we get into fights, and sometimes I missed dinner because I was mad or upset and again because I'm stubborn I hate asking for food when I'm hungry but my mom's usually in the kitchen late anyways I'll come out of my room at 2 am starving cause I didn't eat anything and no matter the argument, how small or big she'll usually be like "You hungry? You want leftovers or do you want me to make you something?" It doesn't matter how much we fight, we love eachother and any good parent would feed their kid no matter what. Whether their solely responsible or not because that's what a loving parent would do. No matter how much we fight, I know at the end of the day my mother loves me and if I needed anything she would be there in a heart beat. At the age of 5 my mother was so extra too, she would pack my lunch box to the brim for no reason and give me cute little notes that say stuff like "I love you! Have a great bud. Xoxo" and I'm not ashamed to admit it, I loved those cute little letters. Honestly I have a great relationship with my mother, so this just breaks my heart. I can't image just sitting around my peers as they eat lunch and you're just starving because your mother refused to drive over to you and get you something to eat because she thinks it's your responsibility as a 5 year old. I’m sure if she forgot to take her lunch to work, she would find another lunch because we are humans and make mistakes. In situations like this, teachers are also trained to contact protective services if it is reoccurring because this IS considered as neglect. If we were caught sharing food when someone was on a "limited food punishment where you'd only get to rice and water, sharing ANYTHING including sanitary products, extra sweaters or blankets, eye rolling(so if knew of us was cold, wet, out of sanitary products ect we couldn't share). Also, another big one was whispering to one another during periods of "vows of silence"(when we couldn't speak for days or sometimes weeks if they felt the group was becoming "corrupt"). They were incredibly sexists, racists, hemophobic & just all around inexperienced and rude staff. There was even a relationship that started between one of the girls and a councellor, she was 15 and he was 25 and guess what? Absolutely nothing happened. This was all in BC Canada but I'm sure the wilderness programs aren't much different jn the states. All in all it was horrible and even though I did learn some survival skills I became more depressed,my ptsd became so much more prevalent,I got more resentful snd I made some contacts who were there for worse things and ended up getting in more trouble when I got back. I'm very much against those programs ESPECIALLY for anyone under the age of 18. I was way to young to be somewhere like that and it was ages 13-22 which is a huge gap as well as co Ed. It was just...trouble. Anyway, I apologize for the lengthy post but this family kinda triggered something. My bad ya'll♥✌

The mother DEFINITELY regrets having kids. She clearly resents them. Her lil story of how she was in high school tells a lot idk...apart of me believes she was one of those girls who just wanted to live their lives free and in love but then she got pregnant very young. She probably adored them at first but then as time went on she became abusive. Like..once they’ve gotten older and “less cute” or “presentable” for the camera (because youtube loves families with newborns and toddlers) she no longer cares for them. Once they’re 18 they’re not allowed to live with her...? Ik this is fairly normal for a lot of families but..idk

At 18 you’re meant to start college but like... how is an 18 year old able to work, earn enough to afford their own place and be financially stable AND still attend college. I think it’s just super weird. I hope these poor kids get help

My issues with them being kicked out at 18 is that these kids are LITERALLY paying for everything in the parents lives

I mean.... Moving out AT 18 ISNT normal in my experience....UNLESS the parents are abusive and resentful. When i turned 18 my mom pawned me off on my dad despite abuse he was doing. But most people these days stay with their parents until their 20s-30s because of the economy.
