There’s also the consideration of how much the median house price has increased in the state compared to the rest of the country. Another thing is the shortage of labor especially when it comes to building a home or getting a contractor/tradesmen for projects. It’s true things are more expensive everywhere in the world now days but Maine is unique in just how severe the situation is. We are in the process of moving there from Texas this year and the challenge keeps getting more and more difficult as we progress in the move. Finding someone to drill a well, finding someone to do insulation, making sure eagles/bears wont attack your small dogs, making sure your your lakeside camp doesn’t get flooded during hurricanes, making sure your propane tank doesn’t leak, finding a used 4x4 car that DOESNT have rust, the list goes on and on. You either need to be very handy or have a load of cash to be able to do this successfully. We are a couple with decent jobs and will still absolutely have to live with family in order to make this a practical move. All that being said I think it’s very worth it if you can pull it off

Been up several times June July and August. Searsport, Belfast, Rockland and Owls Head. Really like the coast. Planning on moving in 4 years. This winter we are taking a trip to see how well we would do. Not exactly sure where we will stay yet still looking at that but sticking with the coast maybe further up near Machias Want to make sure we know what to expect.

You left out the darkest side of living in Maine - The Tourists. Not all of them, but there are quite a few that seem to think that since they are on vacation rules and common sense don't apply to them. Of course I live on Mount Desert Islands where the tourist problem is pretty much the worst in Maine. Note: I just saw that you mentioned the tourists in a video last week. Actually I think the summers, particularly away from the immediate coast, are a bigger negative than the winters. The heat and humidity inland make summers in Maine almost unbearable. I had to drive into Bangor at the end of June and I almost died when I opened the car door. It was close to 90. Other than those issues, it is all lobsters and lighthouses where I live in Maine. Also, unless you drive an hour and a half out a dirt road into the woods you will never be an hour and a half from groceries. Heck, even in the County there are Hannaford, IGA, Shop and Save and even Walmart stores. Sure you won't find Whole Foods, but who would want to.

I know 90 is really hot for you guys but as a Southerner, my first thought was “ooh, a cold front”. It’s been 95-105 degrees with 90+% humidity here for a month and it’s gonna be close to that through at least September. My area is heavily touristed as well but I don’t think they behave any worse than locals. People are just entitled now. 🤷🏼‍♀️
