Another episode, hell yeah. Btw, in case you are not aware yet, surface copper/other metal bits can mean underground veins directly underneath. So if you can find those areas you found the bits on, you're going to have a ton of copper
@newkkl Жыл бұрын
I just came here to post this same comment, when you find surface nuggets it means there is a vein of that metal underneath. Mark them all in your map and go back and mine them. Resources may be thousands of blocks away, so there may be chalk or limestone off in another area somewhere. If you find halite (salt) that is a major discovery -mark it on the map!

if you ever find an "ancient bed" (or whatever they call them) in those cobblestone ruins in the caves make sure to take it. they let you sleep for the longest time of any of the beds i believe.
@kerim.peardon5551 Жыл бұрын
Yep, 9.5 hours, compared to 8.5 hours for a regular bed and 7 for a straw pallet. I have found that drifters spawn before dawn and after sunset. (How soon before/after depends on rift activity; medium activity means they start spawning after a couple of hours or so of darkness.) The better beds are better to use in winter because you can go to sleep shortly after nightfall and wake up shortly before dawn and miss the drifter spawns in all but the heaviest of rift activity.

19:47 You absolutely CAN make porridge with your grains. They just have to be the base of the meals instead of the meat or veggies. You can then add either fruits or vegetables to them for other nutrients, or more grain to make them extra thick. The game figures what the base of a meal you are cooking is from what's first put in the pot. The easiest way to do this is to use two of something that is exactly the same in the first two slots to set the base. Two of the same meat gets you meat stew, two of the same vegetable gets you veggie stew, and two of the same grain gets you porridge. You can then add two optional things to make the meal more hearty and flavorful and to provide other nutrients. Meat can have up to two veggies or one fruit, or a combo of both. Vegetable stew can have up to two other veggies or two soybeans, or a mix of both. Porridge can have any combination of two fruits, veggies, or grains. If what you put in the pot is a valid meal recipe, it will state what you are cooking in a short description above the cooking pot slots in the campfire. If what you put in the pot is NOT a valid meal recipe, there will be no description of it above the cooking pot slots. You must also make sure that all the ingredients are of the same quantity, so that you get equal servings.

I really hope you have been marking all those spots where there was copper bits laying around. That means there are "surface" deposits under it, usually like 5-10 blocks under. If you want an actual bountiful copper harvest then randomly looking in caves will not cut it, you will need to learn how to use the prospecting pick! I wont spoil too much but you got really really lucky with those copper spawns because ore generates very different in this game compared to Minecraft. Interesting watching you learn though :) Edit: Limestone is just a regular stone layer like granite for example so look under the dirt layers in gravel deserts or actual sand deserts, they have a high chance to just have limestone layer underneath wich stretches the whole biom
@nicholaussevigny3679 Жыл бұрын
Every time you find any ore on the surface you will find more in the ground right underneath it. So surface copper has at least a small surface vane of copper under the soil layer and maybe a coupe stone blocks down.

Spawning into an area with no limestone, marble or chalk nearby is always depressing. Good thing you found the trader. For the slow winter months, I bring in a bunch of gravel and sand, and any bony soil I can find. Sifting is also tedious, but you wind up increasing the quantity and variety of resources by doing it -- and it's cold, outside. If you go out hunting, the coats of all the animals have changed colors and they're on you before you can spot them. I also hold off on base improvements until the snow starts to fly. Use the summer months to gather resources; use the winter months to process them into useful things.

If you want to look for other stones, such as lime and chalk or borax, try the prospecting pick! I would also recommend the clientside mod prospectinginfo. All it does is record the data of your prospecting to your map, so you can keep track of it. Also, when you see bits on the ground, dig under them! There are typically veins of whatever the bit is, directly underneath! So mark where you find copper bits for sure, and then return with a shovel and pickaxe! :)

14:10 Meals are even better than you thought. They are also extra filling. Eating a meal will give you 30 seconds of no hunger loss for every 100 satiety it refills. This means with some of the better meals you can get between 5 and 7.5 minutes of not losing hunger after eating. Plus, if you happen to only eat a partial serving, it will keep the other part for leftovers (shown as 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 etc.) so you can finish it before you start on a new serving and not lose anything.

Just FYI, If you hold the alt key you can unlock your cursor from the camera so you don't have to look at every single pixel when you're smithing/knapping/clayforming. And that bismuthinite you found can be used to make bismuth bronze if you can find some sphalerite to mix it with along with your copper. And definitely get a prospecting pick too because cave diving is super dangerous until you hit the bronze age at least, plus you have no way of knowing how much copper is in an area without one and you might just be jumping down a lethal cave for nothing. You can find shallow surface deposits by looking for copper bits on the ground but those veins aren't very big compared to the ones you can find deep underground. The best way to get ores is really just to prospect until you find a good reading and then dig down while prospecting every 10 or so blocks on the node search mode until it picks up ore nearby. love the series, please keep going!
@physicsunderstander4958 Жыл бұрын

@@TimmyTwoNipples honestly storms are pretty easy to deal with if you get a longbow. You can two-shot surface drifters (even with flint arrows) and just kiting them or building some sort of wall or fortification to fire down on drifters makes storms an ez source of temporal gears. Also drifters can spawn inside your base during storms, so being swarmed is an issue in crowded spaces, especially with some of the more powerful drifters that can take you out in a few shots.

Some tips on farming for after winter: crops will be killed by rabbits, temperature, or if planted near saltwater, so build a fence and dont use saltwater. Also, make sure you are using medium quality soil or better because crops consume soil nutrients. Further down the road, you can make a greenhouse to grow crops when it gets colder.

You'll probably have lots of time during the winter to spare, too, once the nights start getting really long.. so I've found just decorating around with it is a nice way to spend it ^^ Also, speaking of winter - you should probably look up how to make a pelt in the handbook, and the clothes you can make from them.. you're gonna need them. And on the topic of food - you _can_ make meals using grain: the recipe is the same as with the meat stew pretty much, only grain replaces the first two (or more) slots in the pot; the same with veggie stew. You can also make soup by filling the first spot with 1L of water per each portion, in case you find yourself short on ingredients. Also, you mentioned linen - that's made from flax, which is gonna be really important down the line. It's probably too late by now to start planting, but just noting that for future reference :)
