The one thing that came to mind was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within... *HEAR ME OUT* When that movie came out there was a fear that movies were going to be replaced with digital actors. The idea came from a plan the film producers had of films assets, specifically the model of the main female lead, for future projects. If you know anything about that movie it was awful and it bombed. However years later we have the TF2 mercs who have become an adaptable cast of digital actors capable of playing any kind of part the human imagination is capable of giving them. Comedy, Horror, playing as KZbinrs, Surrealism, and so on. It's just kinda funny to me that years ago their was an idea by Hollywood to create virtual actors that could be reused for film roles and without that ever being the goal we have a group of probably the best and most versatile team of digital characters used for almost that exact purpose exclusively by regular people.

A popular theory regarding the Undertaker is that he’s the personification of death. 1. Lacks any allegiance or loyalty to any side of the gravel war. 2. The Undertaker is heavily associated with death, he drives around in a stolen hearse and wears a plague doctor mask. 3. The Undertaker only appears to people who have committed murder. Such as Spy, Medic and the Soldier. 4. At one point, the Undertaker is seen to playing chess with Medic. Possibly a reference to 1957 film “The Seventh Seal” where death promises the protagonist if he can beat him in a game of chess, he will spare his life.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Fritz's revival in the Conagher scene isn't because of this "Respawn Core," but seemingly something related to the comics canon. The "surgically attached souls" that people goof a lot about seem related to it, because of a detail I remember someone pointing out. In the scenes where Fritz is in a coffin, the candles seem to represent how many souls he has left, because there's less in the later one. That feels way too specific to be a coincidence.

You know how in the movie, most of the characters actually have their gadgets like soldier's rocket launcher, pyro's fire resistance (I mean, even though he's more of a charred corpse he still survives being set on fire), and spy's invis watch? I think the reason why he comes back is because of a thing medic has. Compared to every other class, he's the only one with regenerative abilities. So personally, I think he comes back because of that ability he has. It does also explain why he is the only one that can come back on his own, while for heavy (or Stalingrad) someone else had to bring him back.
@Dxuki6 ай бұрын
true. but what about heavy? SPOILER he dies, then he comes back thanks to the red medic, then gets a screwdriver in his eye, then gets rocket jumped and finally dies under conagher slaughterhouse's ashes. bro has to be indestructible
@SoupDisaster6 ай бұрын
@@Dxuki well, the red medic presumably has access to the same tech that the blue medic had, which could include whatever is doing the healing. if the same stuff that is keeping medic alive is also going through heavy, a lot of the stuff makes sense. The blue medic and the heavy can take small arms fire, as seen with demo and soldier's confrontation with the heavy outside the armory. Him taking explosions could be explained with him just being beefier in general, and probably reducing the severity of the wounds, allowing them to regenerate somewhat (notice that he still has burns, but not any open wounds that a fragmentation grenade would inflict). But that regeneration still has a limit, as both still die, due to severe wounds that not even regeneration could fix, like a severe car crash or an entire building falling on top of you.

Which is sad considering Hollywood used to care about filmmaking and art, which is what horror is in my opinion, art, beautiful twisted and terrifying art, but it’s very clear that Hollywood no longer cares about good films and good art and now only cares about shoving political ideologies(aka woke)down peoples throats, my hope is one day Hollywood will stop being overly political(or trying to brainwash the masses with social engineering)and start making good movies once again, but I know that’s just wishful thinking, at least we will always have old movies to watch.

I do agree that there's been a doubling down on politics in entertainment because of, as gaming animators pointed out, massive uproars because they're not the "correct" ideas of the modern day, as well as a decline in terms of execution and quality. I would just like to point out, that the song Maynard plays on the Piano was actually changed at some point. The current version plays Blackbird by the Beatles; but the original release played the Toreador March. Given the song is about risking one's life for the entertainment of others while bull wrangling; and that the glory is worth the risk of life... it fit a lot more given what Fritz was trying to do; breaking into the Slaughterhouse to save Jeremy despite the obvious risk of death by the Conaghars; and heck... even the meaning of the song vs what Fritz was doing. It's all about Bull wrangling; while Fritz failed to grab the Wrangler and had to improvise, risking his life further... all for the entertainment of the audience watching. I'm guessing it was changed at some point due to either copyright issues, or because the Toreador March commonly nowadays gets associated with Five Nights at Freddys and a lot of people were specifically commenting about that.

One part of the movie I've never seen anyone else mentionning: During the scene where Jeremy is at home and turn to see his mom's head, the camera shot puts him as the blue pawn stuck between the other chess pieces. During the war flashback Soldier experiences, he sees Fritz playing chess against the Undertaker. Look closely at the pieces. The Undertaker moves one blue pawn as an opening move. "Our true enemy has yet to reveal himself" - 'Cyclops' [1:29:44] I'm gonna bet the "true enemy" is whoever is in charge of Emesis Pharmaceuticals or Helix Technology. Hell, those two companies might even be under the same parent company and it's whoever runs THAT company. Also when Fritz died from the game of Russian Roulette the briefcase was also nearby and it didn't take too long to revive him the first time so maybe he actually came back then and just metal gear'd himself into Archibald's funeral casket. And finally I absolutely agree with your theory on The Undertaker's identity.

Not too far into the video, and Richter might mention this, but I love how the movie uses colour to tell when something bad is about to happen. The colour red is associated with murder and death, the shift in the medics eyes show his violent and his normal side fighting for control.

1:51:26 another thing about the respawn core bringing medic back stronger is that he isn’t being sent through a respawn machine, which I would imagine would not directly give a individual access to the respawn core, but instead dilute it down somehow or only give them part of the core’s power. Not only is medic the only one intersecting with the respawn power, as he’s the only one to die by it, but he is directly next to the core each time. The only time he isn’t dead directly by it is in the coffin, which is why I believe he came back weakened/paler and more gaunt
@herothehedgefox5 ай бұрын
it's interesting because he loses russian roulette next to the briefcase too, so why didn't he come back to life? I guess Spy took the briefcase with him. Or medic was alive and snuck into Jules' coffin, waiting for the right moment to strike. He did have a gun after all.
@oedipusrex3534 ай бұрын
@@herothehedgefox This makes the most sense to me. He revived after the Russian roulette and snuck in, he was gaunt because he had been there for atleast days by that point and probably consumed by hallucinations and... Well, everything else.

I think that the scene with the masked figures applauding correlates with the funeral scene. In both moments, Medic kills a burnt, masked man in front of a crowd. Medic having a vision of himself in the coffin adds to this in my opinion. As you said, Medic's appearance during the funeral is similar to Dr. Caligari, which may be an explanation for the file names.

What if that failed respawn photo of the person on fire at 1:24:40 was the butcher? I mean it would explain why he is STILL burned after countless respawns. Perhaps because the malfunction even the respawn machine can’t fix it

"Where we're going, we won't need eyes." The characters most closely associated with death are eyeless. The two Engineer brothers who built and operate the respawn machine, and Dell who is apparently stuck in the afterlife. The Butcher and Stalingrad are blinded in combat. Then Fritz somehow loses his eyes in the crash, which could mean that the Undertaker is also eyeless because of the respawn machine (and if not, it's a hell of a missed opportunity).

28:37 if im correct thats a leg of lamb which is a referece to a book called lamb to the slaughter (free to read online) it is a book about a wife who kills her husband with a leg of lamb, at the end of the book she convices the detectives to eat the leg of lamp forever getting rid of the murder weapon.

Just a quick idea about the church pews and applause thing- it might be a reference to Perfect Blue, the 1997 Satoshi Kon anime movie. When the main character, an actress, triumphs over her own personal demon after a movie's worth of delusions and breaks from reality showing her slowly spiraling into paranoid mania, she has what is for the audience one last moment of false reality where she imagines the crew of the show she was acting on applauding her performance as a way to allow herself a moment of catharsis, and maybe that's the general vibe here?
@Charlemagne7773 ай бұрын
1:32:30 It could be the 'enemy' cyclops referenced, and it's someone from soldiers past, or it could maybe be the 'smoker', and soldier is confused about how he got down there. I think it's the enemy cyclops referenced, however (the enemy cyclops referenced could also be the Entity referenced in the screen write, or whatever it is)

My theory is that the Undertaker is the medic for the Black Team which is how he was able to frame medic so well and as you point out he is wearing a plague mask
@slayerofdarknssdmt96976 ай бұрын
Well yeah but the thing is that the black team are the resurrected forms of the various characters, it makes sense for the undertaker to be the fritz who's been respawned hour and possibly days prior to the events. We know the red medic isn't he undertaker either because he's working on the heavy only moments prior to the events of the slaughter house.

1:29:55 I kind of always figured the weird Demo vision was referring to the Mann brothers, they technically hadn’t “revealed” themselves at that point in the movie, only Blutarch’s voice having been heard, and technically when you think about it, they really are the true enemies of every class, forcing them to fight and die in a meaningless war built on spite and pettiness, only to bring them back and do it all over again
@brujolujo45066 ай бұрын
I think part of the reason soldier just stepped in front of the sniper is because military snipers are taught to aim at basically a triangle from the neck to nipples on personnel. It’s easier to hit vital organs then going for the head. He made an educated guess.

I just realized that the scene where the engineer tries to quick draw a drill, (which wouldn't hurt the medic at that range) is a reference to the movie Falling down. In falling down it's a toy gun, but they both say "I would've got you."
