I think he missed it on both war and deaths personalities. War wasn't all edgelord, he care about balance more than the others did. All he was doing was proving he didn't mess up to preserve the balance and get revenge on those who did, like ulthaine who gave him his gun and helped cause the mess or the angles who caused the whole thing to happen in the first place. While war didn't care about anyone else because he wanted to save his brother from eternal punishment. Throughout the second game the nephilim (The race of the horsemen) keep being brought up and how death Slaughtered them to preserve peace and balance bringing in guilt and a choice between saving humans or his own race and showing him saving the humans over his own race to save his brother war.

I liked it being unapologetically edgy to be honest. When I saw the box art of Darksiders on my 17th birthday (damn it was released 10 years ago) I looked at it and thought "Wow this looks like those edgy as fuck comics I read when I was a little kid, looks cool I'm gonna buy it" I was kinda expecting campiness but then I got Rob lefield type of XTREME SERIOUSNESS. But at the same time the game didn't take itself to serious, reminded me of guess what? 90's era comics. the problem is that Darksiders 3 just threw most elements of the first two games off the window. The second one evolved lots of the elements of the first game, and it has good pacing something that made the first one so frustrating. We 've gone from crazy combat and unwanted RPG loot with gadgets that should work on both combat and puzzles to hit-hit-hit dodge Action RPG with 2 puzzles for each environment. Darksiders 2 is still my favorite. I only liked the story in 3, I expected to hate Fury but in the end she is kinda cool. But man I sure love the voice acting of these three games, I loved how Death mocked NPCs for dumb side quest besides still doing it. Having the horse from the starting point in the second game and the combat that takes notes from DMC4 and Bayonetta just makes everything better. Btw the soundtrack of the second game is composed by Jesper Kyd, composer of the AC2 ost, and its freaking genius. Edit: Thanxs for all the likes buddies

Suddenly, people don't like it because of... it is harder comparing to game 1 and 2 Here you can finally enjoy the combat and rely on your reflexes. And, you must concentrate and hit "dodge" at the right time. It feels like a real battle with fewer scripted actions All these games are great and different
@jayfeather53834 жыл бұрын
Just finished the darksiders 2 section and I realized I missed something, exploring isn't 100% necessary and it shouldn't be. You can explore or not, your choice but there is rewards, in darksiders 1 you can find more health and more wrath to increase your combat successfulness plus you can level up your weapons as you do so, and that armor that you lightly touched on, greatly reduces how much damage you take and provides healing on successful strikes, a pretty useful item. Plus finding artifacts grants additional souls which can help you get upgrades or purchase healing items or new moves etc etc. Again it's not necessary but if you want it's there, as for death you barely touched on the story if at all, he is there to resurrect humanity and clear his brother's name, also hes death, a horseman of the apocalypse, he doesnt need to make friends and they aren't wanting to be his friend either, as for that bomb hopping section you actually have a way to shove the ball meaning that bomb climb up the ramp was the incorrect way to do it, hints why it took so long, some gameplay things you just need to play around a little to really get, multiple times they mention who the end boss is and why he is important, if you only remember him from the intro scene you werent paying enough attention.. yes the games borrow stuff from other games but I personally dont mind, each of the horsemen feel unique in their movement and individual combat, again they share similarities, there are only so many ways to swing a weapon after all. Again sorry for the rant, one more darksiders portion to finish

Regarding Absalom, gotta say, it was a very bad final boss. The build-up was weak and the fight itself was lackluster. I was expecting for a second phase and it just didn't happen. @zeroattentiongaming8204 жыл бұрын
To be fair the 1st game was a meh combination of Zelda, God of War and DMC. Not a bad game but doesn't fully replicate the quality of what it's copying. Puzzles lack the creativity of Zelda, exploration lacks the fluidity of GOW and combat pales in comparison to DMC (though most do). It works pretty well but it's copying 3 legendary franchises and matches none of them. 2 is simultaneously better and worse. The skill trees and RPG mechanics work surprisingly well, giving the combat a lot of depth while moving away from DMC to an extent. The overall game design is fucking repetitive as hell though, a seemingly endless series of "fetch 3 mcguffins" style quests. The scale works really well in the first 2 worlds but the rest feel rushed. The game is far too large and ambitious for it's own good imo. The loot system feels really out of place but surprisingly functional. Ultimately though I'd call 2 "Padding: The Game"

Compared to the second game, I feel the same about the two others. Haven't completed the third, but I feel like I need to hold that one more "accountable" for dropping so much of what made the second game great, at least in terms of gameplay. When playing the first, I didn't know better so that's that but I was in many regards thoroughly disappointed with the third game. I think it's still worth at least trying out for you but I'd expect gameplay as a hybrid between DS 1 and 2 in terms of lateral movement, agility, combat etc. Think the safest way is to just try it for yourself.

Ulthane conspired with Azrael and Abaddon to trigger the Apocalypse earlier, which is treason to the balance, for which War is honor-bound to kill them all someday (of which Abaddon already had his sentence carried out).

Presenting them as individuals not as just these avatars of their namesake. War is an honorable brute, even though he is an angry meat puppet. Death is a very wise individual even though he can be edgy and snarky. Fury does grow a lot in the third game which does make her pretty likable. hell Even Strife has a good persona. I would also argue that the gameplay also showcases their persona's as well. If there is one major complaint about the games is that I wish they would do horse combat better. And finally having finished the entire video, I agreed with some points and disagreed with many more, I personally did not like fury's personality, and yes the expositon is long in the beginning but helps outline who you are why you are there and what to do. I do believe fury had a good arc and changed, the gluttony fight when hes doing that sucking you in attack, if you switch to the force hollow the purple hair, you dont get sucked in btw. And as for your havoc form, level up arcane damage, if you look at the damage numbers when you fight, white is normal or physical, every other color, purple yellow red blue etc etc. That's arcane damage, your havoc form feeds directly from arcane damage, I dont really have many gripes with this section I've outlined it in previous comments, whether you read this or not doesnt really matter, this series is not for everyone, some people like myself really enjoy and understand the story while others may just look at the gameplay and dislike it. I havent finished the whole video but having finished the darksiders 1 portion of the video, I personally really enjoyed darksiders 1, it's hard to really explain but war acts the way he does because of his honor. I thought some of his best moments were those "super serious standing still moments" like when he denies killing uriel for nex sacremntum, stating that he would decide when she dies, ultimately letting her live by the end of the game. And not to say the dark souls get good thing, but a lot of encounters are made quite simple and quite fast if you know what the enemies are weak to and or can chain combos together, the random sections where gameplay is changed up is a nice change of pace in my opinion, those gun sections you can still use your sword but game says here is another option. As for the characters acting shitty towards war? He is the horseman of the APOCALYPSE whom they believe ENDED HUMANITY and ruined the balance they all serve, of course they hate him. besides different engines? well pretty simple, they are more used to Unreal Engine than their own created engine for that game alone (phoenix engine, yeah it looks like ue3 but it isnt) it also boils down to Architecture, how some stuff are implemented and or coded for go see the Saint row the Third switch port, it runs horribly! why? because switch gpu architecture doesnt accept Deferred Light system and thats was the inovation they came up for that game back in 360, a deferred light engine. the port problems arent just because they are not big anymore (nordic games which is now THQ nordic) but also because of complete different hardware running something that it shouldnt in the first place. aka sonic boom trying to run CRY FUCKING TECH 3 on a hardware it was NOT EVEN SUPPORTED TO RUN IN THE FIRST PLACE.

@@LyrisTheCat firstly, thanks for the info. Does give some clarity Secondly, it is really weird that they built a brand new enguine that they were not use to. I mean no matter the case, there is no good excuse for a game running bad. If they should have been given more time to make the darksiders 2 port better. A bad port is still a bad port no matter what. Also with Darksiders 3 running of Unreal Enguine 4, Kingdom Hearts 3 runs on the same enguine and has a performance mode. Also it just runs way better. I know KH3 is split into segmented areas and Darksiders 3 is supposed to be a seamless world. But that just means that the team needed to rethink how they designed the game. If it doesn't work, then change it. Don't keep it if it's not good. Darksiders is basically segmented areas, but it does it in a much less appealing way. You know, with KH3 fading to black and logo, then fading back to the world. While Darksiders 3 is just freeze the game, logo and some times see the game loading in front of your eyes Also side note, every game on console should have a graphics option. Doesn't need to be as complex as PC settings. All the need to do is have a toggle between Performance mode and Quality mode. Just to keep both camps happy. With people prefering a game to have better graphics and running at a stable 30. And the other with people who don't mind worse graphics as long as the game runs at 60

using specific moves, using a grappling hook, collecting stuff to make another stuff..... I didn't know those things were just a trademark of a game they were famously seen as o.o also war isn't angry at everything. he is not Kratos nor Asura to angry at everything. he is just super annoyed that he got called to end the world but lo and behold it didn't actually end because the 7th seal is still there uncracked. the council (those flaming tree barks you called) stripped him of all his powers because they blamed him to have ended the world which made annoyed him even more. War sees himself as the most loyal keeper of the balance to have him be blamed for breaking the said balance made him look super super serious. oh btw that's the gist of the story in case you skimmed through it. oh also, it's the reason why War can't just flatten someone into paste or rip demonic/angelic origin doors off their hinges, and can't fight demons/angels properly because his powers got stripped of him. he is not as strong as he used to. so he must fight and do what he must do to the best of his current abilities. I want to add. when I play games I do not compare... well I do but the extent is just saying what it's gameplay looks like to others who haven't seen the game. I do not compare and say this game is a copy of this game so it's shit because it has mechanics to it. when I play I play it based on the worlds background. And it's what made me enjoy the game. in fact it's what made me enjoy any game I play. I will admit it does possess mechanics that other games have. But I still enjoy the game. I play the game, enjoy/not enjoy it, then voice out what I like and don't like about it. the darksiders franchise does seem lacking in many aspect but it's still enjoyable if you don't go around comparing it to others. you are too focused that the game possess a mechanic that many other games possess that you won't notice how enjoyable a game is by just focusing on the game itself. I play league but I've only played a few games of Dota with friends. I don't play league and say "oh this mechanic is in dota, that mechanic is the same as that" I just enjoy the game cause it is enjoyable.

Was this video made to spite Darksiders fans? Because it's clear to me that you did not pay attention to the story, game mechanics, and world building. I don't really got to explain what you got as many other users already pointed out like game play MarlonMacielBrando, Александр Пушкин, etc. From the game play footage you showed it looked like you were trying to speed run the games, which might be why you missed parts of the story and therefore getting your facts wrong. These games are not meant to be speed ran through the first time playing. Stop Brute-forcing your way into playing games and then complain that the game wants you to do something specific and not your way. Its why you were stuck at the puzzles, you missed the lore, and ignored game mechanics like the D2 ball run. You can press R2 and it'll launch the boulder. You didn't need the bombs and you just wasted time doing that.

The way I see it, the games were very ambitious -- too much so, in fact. I've only played Darksiders 2, but damn I loved the hell out of it. When I finally beat the game, I was only mildly interested in restarting the game, but came to the conclusion that it just wasn't worth it. The game was good on its own. I enjoyed the combat and the puzzles. The story, albeit convoluted and too wrapped up in itself, was fine for what it was. What really got me was just how long of a game it was. It was good, but it just dragged on and on and on. I agree with pretty much all your points, but I don't agree with the overly-negative tone you have. Ironically, it actually fits the doom and gloom aspects the games were going for lol. Anyway, I'd love to go back and play the remastered edition on PS4, but part of me just doesn't think it would be worth it, especially since it really did take me over 20 hours to beat the original version sans DLC. @@AceBountyHunterRex That was just a rough estimate for the story alone. I don't remember how long I actually took to beat the game.

@@themadhattress5008 fair enough but if i may ask are you someone who usually enjoys long games or not really?
@themadhattress50084 жыл бұрын
@@AceBountyHunterRex I think it depends on the game, really. I can look up from playing a game like Dark Souls and to realise hours have gone by. Same with games like Devil May Cry or whatever. I think the pacing of Darksiders 2 is too drawn out, really. Either that or the puzzles and platforming are too infrequent. In retrospect, the game just seems so tedious -- and maybe too repetitive, and that's why it felt like such a slog to get through. Darksiders 2 is one of the very few games where it just didn't seem worth it to replay the game. Other games I can start over, even if they're long as hell, and still find enjoyment out of it. Kingdoms of Amalur, actually is another game that's kinda like Darksiders 2 in that respect, except that the progress you make in the game actually seems worth it. Still hard to go back to sometimes, but never a slow crawl of an experience. That could simply because of the seeming variety presented while keeping the gameplay relatively consistent.

@@themadhattress5008 i see well ill say i do disagree with your thoughts on darksiders 2 since i love it. But i will say i appreciate you elaborating on your thoughts on it. Can definitely respect you for that and i can see where your coming from. Its not a game for everyone.

I love the Darksider's games... but I think the best way to describe them is that they're good, fun games that are just lacking that one thing that would make them great. There's a lot of pieces that work well on their own... but don't exactly work well together. At least not completely. They just miss the mark that would send them over the edge to greatness and it's a shame because the developers put a lot of work into them... but just couldn't (or didn't) fine tune them to make them memorable.

lore wise, war's power was still locked away within the seals of the apocalypse. He wouldn't rebel against the watcher because he didn't have the power to face him juat yet.

So the real problem with Darksiders was more it's lack of identity, it didn't know what it wanted to be, they just threw sheesh to the blender until the third one; that did the same at some point; but focused onto things like story and challenge, thing that was supposed to be the focus of the other two... Well, i just wish they've found a winning formula, i really love the lore and world-craft of this game... I just wish they would have improvised earlier

Everyone’s entitled to an opinion, but I gotta say I disagreed with nearly every point you made. Darksiders 1 and 2 are peak. In my opinion, Darksiders 3 really felt like a step in the wrong direction for the series. I don’t think the new devs could figure out what genre they wanted it to be, looked what was popular and said yeah just make a dark souls they sell well, the kids will love it! However their games Remnant and Remnant 2 are awesome and are so much better souls likes than Darksiders 3. It’s been a few years, maybe you’ll like Darksiders 1 and 2 if you give them another go

Darksiders one is just god of war mixed with zelda in a really cool art style! I'm 22 now but I remember when I was an edgy LOTR fan of about 11, I was just looking for something like this! Even though this game borrowed a lot, its also really its own thing and I have the best memories of this game's vibe

I do like how each game's combat communicates how differently each Horseman fights. War is massive juggernaut that can stack up to 11 health bars and can dominate the flow of battle with his aoe attacks and smash apart huge enemies with how strong his attacks are. Death is a whirling dervish of blades with some magic on the side. Constantly moving and attacking, you're always on the enemy's ass putting out damage. Fury is the most precise fighter and decidedly a duelist, she struggles in crowded fights where someone like War wouldn't even sweat. Instead, she's far more focused on reading the opponent and striking when they're vulnerable.

Guy is absolutely clueless when it comes to storytelling.. why would WAR, one of the four horsemen of apocalypse be having fun with himself and just tearing everyone and everything to shreds when the whole point of the horsemen is to maintain balance. They are all extremely honorable and the whole point of the story is War regaining his honor. He does not kill mindlessly, he is not evil nor good, he is there to clear his name and to restore BALANCE.

I am a big fan of puzzles, but also hack'n'slash games. For me and my concentration problems this game was perfect, it was simple, had a lot of thinking in it and the repetitive combat I felt like meditation, helps relax from a long day of work. One of my favourite games.

First off, you're killing it with the super timely videos. I was mulling over getting Genesis because I own Darksiders 1 and 2 and I... liked those games? I don't know, a lot of what you said rings true here- they just seemed like fairly competent titles in their respective genres, but they didn't really nail down any of their features. Long and drawn out titles that lacked polish. This is also why I skipped out on Darksiders 3, though everything you've said about it makes me think it would probably be my most favorite title to play, hands down. Great commentary, and now I gotta hunt down a copy of DS3.

Oh no DH3 throws everything 1 and 2 built up out the window. The gameplay is just meh and as someone that had to deal with it crashing every 5 minutes from playing pre patch I'm not gonna play it again. There are memorable bosses at least compared to the first 2.

I mean, War literally gets a gun that shoots blue and orange portals, and the series is not shy about borrowing game mechanics from other franchises.

I think it's worth mentioning that in the gun section in DS2, you can just put the gun down and fight through normally, no problem. I THINK you only need a gun to open the next section, but I am not sure.

Oh, huh, didn't expect this. I played Darksiders 3 on the Xbox Game Pass and while I enjoyed it, it just kept feeling mediocre and too much like a Dark Souls wannabe. It didn't help that enemy balance was all over the place.
