yes, yes there is bad publicity. the fact that people still reiterate that idiotic statement is hilarious. and the fact that portnoy got fired at that station literally immediately should be proof enough that bad publicity certainly can hurt. barstool makes its money with a bunch of college students and sports people who are mostly about as insensitive as you can be. it's quite obvious therefore that that kind of customer group doesn't give a shit about stuff like this. actually pretty much the opposite. that would look entirely different in pretty much most other scenarios. and with "different" I mean "could easily stamp an entire company into the ground". whether something is good or bad publicity depends on the type of person / company the publicity is about and the kinds of people that person / company deals with. imagine some normal every day journalist who's looking to work at places like the nyt etc. posting something like this. there would be a 0 percent chance of that ever happening after something like that. for a lifetime.

It’s weird how the pic was shown other places and no one cared, and others also made comments about it without showing it, and that was no big deal, either, yet the fact that Dave not only showed the howitzer but also commented on it was somehow considered to be a huge thing (pardon the pun). He could have done one or the other and it would’ve been fine, but since he did both it was supposedly terrible.
