I am always so touched at how Dr. Weizak covers his face with his hand with such sadness and regret. He knows that relationship cannot be--"because it wasn't meant to be." One of my favorite movies...

I often wondered if after the conclusion of the movie, with the knowledge that his patient died for the safety and well being of human kind, but in actuality for Sarah and Denny to live, if he did get around to contacting his mom in memory of the gift given by Johnny of a second chance.

@@billyhndrsn4542That would be such a great ending. It would be great to see Dr. Weizak reconnecting with his mother. However, given that accepting change (especially unhappy change) is so difficult for me, the lesson I pulled from the movie was that we all have to accept the ebb and flow of life just as it is. It reminds me to cherish the present and to remain grateful for the goodness in my life. Not always easy for me...

An extraordinary film. The casting is exemplary, the screenplay adaption of King's novel is faultless. Walken's voice cracking when he says, " What's happening to me? " His bravura shines throughout the picture.

The movie was great. But I’m a book guy. In King’s book Johnny asks the reporter if he wanted to know why his sister hung herself in the closet. And at the end there are endless “tiger” references to Martin Sheen’s character. You got inside Johnny’s visions. King is brilliant. Always has been.

My favorite of the longer King novels & movies (along with Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption). King reminds us that events of the past can not be changed (like the incident of the doctor's mother); but the future (like Stillson or the ice breaking) can be changed. Johnny could not bring the dead girl back to life, but he could identify the killer and prevent future killings.

His mother was deeply religious. Her son Johnny had a very high and holy call upon his life. The supernatural gift he was given was to save lives. It was only when he asked Dr. Sam would he kill Hitler knowing what horror he was about to do? Dr. Sam said yes he would kill Hitler the son of a bitch. Johnny told him he would never get out alive. Dr. Sam told him it would not matter...in other words the people must be protected no matter what the cost.

I'm sorry, but I disagree with the Doctor on this. A dude is almost killed in an accident, then he lies in a coma for 5 years, and then wakes up when nobody expects him to. He saves the nurse's daughter, then tells Doc that his mom is not only alive and well, but that he knows where she is. I'm inclined to believe that, were I in the Doctor's shoes, I would have chalked this up to divine intervention and called my mother. In fact, fuck the call, I'm jumping in the car and zipping to her. IMO, it was totally and completely meant to be.

It would be interesting if they made a remake of The Dead Zone. But what's interesting about this movie in particular and the book is well is that Stephen King actually predicted Donald Trump's election for all we know Stephen King could actually be the first person in existence with as he so calls The Shining ability.

RLviddy the point of the Dead Zone was that he was dead in that Coma. He was living on borrowed time. In the book they theorized the tumor was already there and the accident prevented it. but when he died the only thing that kept his brain going was the tumor. and he Entered this Dead Zone and his life already in forfiet was permitted to live on circumstances beyond our knowledge. when he meant was not meant to be it was knowing you cannot turn back time. the time lost between the two was to great and why fill both lives with regret when he knows he is not alone. this is one of my favourite books lol and movies
