It’s quite obvious that the real reason is because advertisers and politicians don’t like having their ads and stuff disliked honestly. KZbin listens to advertisers not creators. Advertisers can choose to advertise somewhere else and strangle KZbin, creators can’t really go anywhere else.

All of us on KZbin know that to be true, but all of the mainstream audience and creators have no interest in the small guy. They want to dominate the platform we created. Fuck them. It's bullshit. Why do people want to rely on the opinions of others to make a decision if they are to like or dislike something? Its strange to me this way of thinking... I thought going with the herd and being influenced by bias was suppose to be a bad thing, and forming your own opinions fairly and applying critical thinking was a good thing, now apparently its not. I can decide in 2 minutes if a video has value to me or not. The opinions of others is irrelevant. Honestly, Imma take particular issue with the comment that other platforms lack a dislike button. Instagram was made to get away from negativity, if I remember right. You can see that people enjoy your content, not that they don't enjoy it, which feels better and, with shortform content like that, is ultimately harmless. Twitter is about finding the content you want to consume and following it. You wouldn't need a dislike button because you're not getting recommended dozens of new tweets from other creators. Reddit has a dislike button, and it's incredibly valuable for keeping down the bad memes (doesn't help though) and smiting bad comments. KZbin is about exploring creators to find content that may be new or fresh. That's why it recommends so many videos on the right, many of which are from channels I don't watch at all. That's the whole point of the infamous Algorithm, to decide what kind of content would most likely appeal to you. So dislikes are incredibly important for deciding whether or not a video that KZbin fed to you with a silver spoon is worth your time or not.

KZbin straight up patronises its users. Yes, there is hate bombing, and it's bad, but here's the thing: I, as a fully functional human being, can identify the difference between a video that's bad and one that has been hate bombed. If a trans creator tells about their personal experiences as a trans person raising a child or whatever, and the video has a humongous dislike rate, I am perfectly capable of discerning that that's probably the result of conservatives not liking the creator and/or the content and 4chan having been recruited to ridicule them. If a completely inoffensive tutorial has a lot of dislikes, that's probably not hate bombing but simply a case of it being a bad tutorial. Like, I don't need KZbin holding my hand through all of this. I can tell when a like/dislike ratio paints a fair picture of a video.

yo i am hijacking this comment to say; start reporting videos for terrorism in addition to disliking. or child abuse. anything that youtube has to respond to, if we fuck up the systems that keep them on the right side of the law and in the good graces of evil corpos they will start paying attention.

They probably never will since they took away the option to downvote comments as well back in 2013. I believe it's mostly political. The people at Google & KZbin are biased left-wingers and this change helps make content from promoted outlets like CNN look good.

As well, seeing a video is disliked can help the creator to create better content in the future as they can see they’re doing something wrong

You can still see the dislikes for your own videos, so I’m not sure if KZbin’s whole “creator mental health” argument is very convincing.

Waited the whole video to see if you landed on the conclusion that it's to protect ads and corporations, and am glad you did. I immediately suspected as such when the announcement was made. The actions only make sense through these lens.

Google falsely advertises ad-free premium membership that's still got at least two ads per video and most of the content listed as 4K actually steaming at 720p.

The only way to get angry at this 1- remove your youtube red/premium subscriction 2- get an adblocker. Really, remove it for content creators you really like but keep it on as long as you can 3- review 1 star youtube if you already didn't We have to strangle them until they listen to us.

The worst part is that it’s automatic, creators with integrity can’t show dislikes. Also the banning of comments can be bad outside of just bad videos, but also social interactions and conversations.

KZbin's idea that anytime a video gets dislike bombed it's because of malicious intent and not just because the video or creator sucks is hilarious. What about people who spout misinformation or racism? Should they be allowed to "have a voice," as they put it? Ridiculous
@GeraltofRivia22

I think they should have a voice. But others should also have a voice to challenge them. Silencing people doesn't change their beliefs.
