It has been eight weeks since US President Joe Biden shocked the world by delivering a frail and faltering performance in his debate with former President Donald Trump.
For those already doubting Biden’s ability to fulfil another four-year term in office, that was the cue for the alarm bells to ring with increasing intensity, as calls for him to step aside from the Presidential race began to spread.
Two weeks later, Trump emerged from a human shield of Secret Service officers in Pennsylvania with his fist pumping and blood on his face from a would-be assassin’s bullet.
For many, that iconic image would ensure a Trump victory.
But another week passed before Joe Biden could be persuaded there was no realistic prospect of him returning to the White House.
He finally ended weeks of internal wrangling by announcing he would no longer stand as a Presidential candidate but would endorse his Vice-President Kamala Harris instead.
With no challengers emerging, Harris officially became the nominee a fortnight later.
She is set to officially accepts her nomination at the Democratic National Committee.
The intervening weeks have transformed the political landscape.
With a little more than 10 weeks until election day, there are a number of essential questions:
The Democrats are currently surging in the polls riding a wave of enthusiasm for Kamala Harris - but is it possible to win the Presidency on good vibes alone?
What is Donald Trump’s best strategy to burst the bubble of Kamala-mania?
Could the economy cost the Democrats the election - or could the situation in Gaza be a decisive factor?
And is America finally ready for a woman President?
On this episode we’ll hear from prominent Democratic and Republican voices - and we’ll try to predict the outcome of the election with the man who has a seemingly foolproof system for forecasting election results.
Show guests:
Susan Platt - US President Joe Biden’s former Chief of Staff
Bryan Lanza - Former US President Donald Trump’s Deputy Director of Communications
