lol, bipartisanship, this is Democrats ticking off a checklist, and in exchange Trump gets to brag about his deal-making skills while completely ignoring republicans and his base, further proof that Trump does not give a shit about anything but himself, soon later Pelosi told trump to reassure Dreamers on twitter and he did once again for good press, he has gambled the livelihood of 800,000 people in exchange for his vanity, what a sad, disgusting man.

yeah the debt ceiling has very little to do with china, i hate that that's like an ongoing misinformation mascarading as a joke. most of the debt is treasury bonds the us owes to its own citizens/investors, but the very same investments and confidence in the bonds are the very reason the dollar is basically infallible in recent history. also all those wars we had werent free lol

You forget the Saudi debt holdings. The US has been paying for Saudi oil for decades with bonds, not cash. Estimates put these bonds face value in excess of 80 trillion dollars, ignoring interest. The Saudi's own us. The Iraq war is keeping that countries oil in the ground, and under US control. And that suits our Saudi Masters well. Their oil is running out, Iraq was direct competition. 15 of the 19 9/11 attackers were Saudi nationals, yet the US response was to attack other countries. Why?

At 0:15, as hurricane Irma grinds its way through the Caribbean, Trump grinds his way through the book "Politics for Dummies".
@grumpynerd
@grumpynerd 7 жыл бұрын
The "Debt Limit" isn't the amount of debt America is allowed to *carry*. It's the debt America is legally allowed to *securitize*. Debt comes from one thing: spending more money than you take in. What the so-called "debt limit" does is authorize the treasury to issue bonds to cover expenses already incurred *by Congress*. Not issuing those bonds doesn't stop the obligation to pay those bills, which have already been incurred. It just means the government will default on paying them, resulting in a loss of credit rating.

Congress's consent in raising the debt ceiling is relatively recent. It became law during WWI, something to do with paying off the Liberty Bonds that had financed the war. With the war over, the issue was forgotten but the law left on the books. The debt ceiling has been raised automatically since then until the GOP rediscovered it a decade ago and weaponized it. Since then, it's become a crisis every time the question comes up.

Meanwhile renewing my DACA worker's permit card takes 90 days and it is suggested to start it 180 days before expiration. Ie, now. I'm technically Canadian, but wasn't given a green card like I was supposed to when I was brought to the States with my parents who both had green cards and who lived in the US- I was less than a couple months old. Went through all my public schooling without even knowing this. Unfortunately I couldn't get a license or work when I was 17, and ended up struggling to get those permits until I was 23. Imagine thinking you were a regular US citizen like all your friends, and all of a sudden you are struggling to pay immigration lawyer fees to stay in the only home you've ever known. Green card process is backed up by six years. I'm a "dreamer". And it sucks.

Stephen, why did you misquote Diaz-Balart that way? He wasn't saying that Trump was twisting arms and taking advantage of the fact that the lawmakers couldn't go anywhere, he was saying that he (Diaz-Balart) was able to get one-on-one time with the president. (The "they" in the quote appears to be referring to GW Bush and Trump, meaning that this is nothing new.) Additionally, he said that Trump was open, casual, warm and nice - not that he was annoying or anything. Diaz-Balart is a Republican though, so it's not unreasonable to say that he has a favorable bias. This was very poor taste, to attempt to misquote someone to make it look like Trump is doing something that there's no evidence of him doing, regardless of which side of the political spectrum you land on.

This provides a false narrative of how national debt works. It's not like personal debt where there's repossessions. A nation has no life expectancy like a person does, and as such there's no deadline for when to collect the debt to avoid losses. Instead by raising the deficit the US borrows money from the banks, and pay it back by taking money from the taxpayer. In truth raising the debt ceiling is a way to redistribute wealth upwards from the poor to the rich. This kind of national budgeting happens often, and redistribution of wealth is only stigmatised when it is rich people having to provide economic benefits to the poor.

I love Colbert, I really do, but his Trump impression makes me want to puke. Colbert and Seth Meyers need to drop the impressions, they're bad and they're played out. The only person that should be allowed to imitate Trump on TV is Alec Baldwin

I noticed RIchard Branson taping widows before a hurricane. Please don't do that, they should be tempered glass and if they break the glass will be small pieces, taping the windows make those pieces larger ones. However, if the wind is already hitting the house that hard, you shouldn't be near windows anyway.

Isn't Stephen taking it a bit so much in mocking Trump his president even for Americans ?? I mean he likened him with a dog playing fetch game !! Before anyone attacks me here I'm not even American I'm merely wondering.

Just asking but aside from providing funding for storm relief and raise debt ceiling what exactly will this bill do for America overall?

It will be hilarious if Trump switches to a Democrat by the end of the year. "Thank you Republicans for getting me in. Now go sit in the corner, us Democrats are going to get some sh*t done." But something tells me Trump will find a way to screw this up too. Hope I am wrong.

If Trump keeps doing and maybe even believing the right thing, we might all end up loving him c= this is probably the first time in his administration that I don't feel like "Oh god what's happening". This made me realize that I and I believe many people can't care less about his quirks and overall unpresidential attitude as long as he's doing the right thing.

I think that Stephen should continue to repeat Trump's words with just grunts... it sounds more accurate and it allows me to ignore the words and stay in my happy place.😆🙉
