IME, this is just how medical people are. They talk about gross shit constantly because they are completely unfazed by it. Basically, there are three things that give me absolute certainty that this man is a doctor. That is one of them, and the other two are that he complains about EMR systems and is perpetually tired. He may have saved someone's life that day, but he'll tell you about that AFTER he tells you about the free sandwich he found in the fridge and a recent patient's fascinating self-inflicted penis injury. I'm so glad hakim actually put it into words: I view the US' imperialist violence similar to the laws of thermodynamics; you can't take it away, it can only change "forms," those forms being exerted outward to some third world country, or inward on itself on our own population. Liberals won’t care about the violence, so long as it's projected somewhere else that they can ignore (cough cough Palestine), but them being all up in arms about preventing a Trump presidency and this "incoming fascism" is only because it's inconveniencing /them/. Living in Florida as a trans minor, DeSantis has been enacting his own "Project 2025" the last few years (a project 2021 if you will), with an onslaught of book bans, anti-trans bills, and attacks towards government agencies and labor laws. And the liberals outside of Florida don't really care! They just see FL (as well as Alabama, Mississippi, etc.) as these backwards, regressive states that nobody should care about. It doesn't directly affect them, so they don't care. Then they act like a Harris presidency would make things better, as if these things haven't been happening all under democratic leadership (the last 4 years have been worse for me as a queer person than all of Trump's presidency, not to mention Roe's overturn)! At BEST a Kamala presidency will keep things as they are, but the current situation in the US is unacceptable! It's not a "lesser evil" if things are actively getting worse under the supposedly progressive party.

Is it possible to anonymously contact Deprogram (not an episode but a consultation thing to share the following perspective and take notes)? Regarding countering fascism. Georgi Dimitrov (who was charged with starting the Reichstag Fire after Hitler took power) wrote between around 1933 and 1939 about using the positive aspects of a country’s history to take the patriotism for the working class of the given country. We have to apply that in the US, otherwise we would make the same mistakes as previous communist parties who didn’t touch their country’s positive aspects. I have done research, despite how much negative history is in the US, and have found positive history based on many struggles of the American people against their exploitative and often unconstitutional government. The things y’all critiqued about “Liberty”, need to be concrete - Liberty involves consent, which relates to the constitutional precedents over time. Simply put: combining positive movements through our history even before Marxism came here with the precedent changes of the constitution itself is fully compatible. If that is ignored, then the already powerful reactionaries will have the means to screw us all over. I find that the best way to read the constitution: Preamble, the 1787 version, the 1791 Bill of Rights, and the amendments that followed. The goals of ML thought is pro-socialism and anti-imperialism seen through the property question. Because people have seen the constitution as illegitimate (which it would need an amendment to peacefully change it to another constitution in the same way that the 1787 document was enacted from the Articles of Confederation), the reactionaries who wrote Prohect 2025 have a way to force that crap upon us - because the left and even liberals never follow the constitution and refuse to use it. The left is, in its concrete goals, more unconsciously-constitutionally minded but they refuse to use that tradition to make a better country. That is what opened the door to the crazy shit in Project 2025; it has many unconstitutional abominations, but the left (and I had made the mistakes the left has made) has to wield the constitution as a weapon for communism and social LIBERTIES (like being gay, having rights, etc). To show that communists actually defend the constitution will show the reactionaries to be traitors. Project 2025, and fascism, is unconstitutional even if they get elected to do it (it isn’t technically legal, but the left threw out the constitution and thus opened the door for reactionary tyranny).

I think it’s interesting to regard the idea of “freedom” as it is used by the American right as implicitly bearing the qualifier “free FROM”. Adding “from” to wherever they use the word clarifies what El they’re truly talking about. We want to give every American their right to freedom FROM (LGBTQ, BIPOC, Social welfare, ideological opposition, etc.). This may seem obvious, but their abuse of the word is being laid bear for what it is.

At least a couple of government people are people-focused, rather than none. Like yeah, revolution or bust, but till then why not make your enemy weaker, even if only in morale? I'll disclaimer that I'm a Kiwi, so I don't have a vote. But I know every time our conservatives get in, our governance follows your right-wing rhetoric. I would prefer that not accelerate. As a side note, I just found this which I think is very relevant. "USA please listen to me: the price of “teaching them a lesson” is too high. take it from New Zealand, who voted our Labour government out in the last election because they weren’t doing exactly what we wanted and got facism instead. Trans rights are being attacked, public transport has been defunded, tax cuts issued for the wealthy, they’ve mass-defunded public services, cut and attacked the disability funding model, cut benefits, diverted transport funding to roads, cut all recent public transport subsidies, cancelled massive important infrastructure projects like damns and ferries (we are three ISLANDS), fast tracked mining, oil, and other massive environmentally detrimental projects and gave the power the to approve these projects singularly to three ministers who have been wined and dined by lobbyists of the companies that have put the bids in to approve them while one of the main minister infers he will not prioritise the protection of endangered species like the archeys frog over mining projects that do massive environmental harm. They have attacked indigenous rights in an attempt to negate the Treaty of Waitangi by “redefining it”; as a backup, they are also trying to remove all mentions of the treaty from legislation starting with our Child Protection laws no longer requiring social workers to consider the importance of Maori children’s culture when placing those children; when the Waitangi Tribunal who oversees indigenous matters sought to enquire about this, the Minister for Children blocked their enquiry in a breach of comity that was condemned in a ruling - too late to do anything - by our Supreme Court. They have repealed labour protections around pay and 90 day trials, reversed our smoking ban, cancelled our EV subsidy, cancelled our water infrastructure scheme that would have given Maori iwi a say in water asset management, cancelled our biggest city’s fuel tax, made our treasury and inland revenue departments less accountable, dispensed of our Productivity Commission, begun work on charter schools and military boot camps in an obvious push towards privatisation, cancelled grants for first home buyers, reduced access to emergency housing, allowed no cause evictions, cancelled our Maori health system that would have given Maori control over their own public medical care and funding, cut funding of services like budgeting advice and food banks, cancelled the consumer advocacy council, cancelled our medicine regulations, repealed free prescriptions, deferred multiple hospital builds, failed to deliver on pre-election medical promises, reversed a gun ban created in response to the mosque shootings, brought back three strikes = life sentence policy, increased minimum wage by half the recommended amount, cancelled fair pay for disabled workers, reduced wheelchair services, reversed our oil and gas exploration ban, cancelled our climate emergency fund, cut science research funding including climate research, removed limits on killing sea lions, cut funding for the climate change commission, weakened our methane targets, cancelled Significant National Areas protections, have begun reversing our ban on live exports. Much of this was passed under urgency. It’s been six months."
