I'm 27 and am terrified of the dark. When I was about 3 years old, some older kids locked me in a playroom in my home. It didn't have windows. I was in there for about ten minutes, but to a kid it would have felt like hours. My mom found me hiding under a desk in the room. Ever since then, I've had a fear of the dark. It makes absolute sense to me that this and Dog Soldiers were directed by the same person. This style of directing grabs my attention way more than most Hollywood blockbuster horrors can. He manages to take tropes and inject realism into them. A large part of that realism comes from the casting choices, which were excellent in both films. Really love that you covered this one, it deserves all the Bees it received

Now now. Juno was in a high survive fight reflex. Beth snuck up on her right after a battle, Juno reacted. And with that hit to the throat, Juno probably assumed Beth woulda bleed out. So she isnt a murder or heartless. Least not to my eyes. Did she lie? Yes. But she was scared and trying to protect her friends so they wouldnt freak more. Sarah on the other hand, openly left Juno to die.
@mask938 Жыл бұрын
Beth didn't sneak up on her. She ran towards her to help and shouted out to her. Also, Juno IS heartless. She had an affair with Sarah's husband that went as far as her getting a pendant engraved with the husband's favorite catchphrase, abandoned Sarah when she was grieving the loss of her husband and daughter while suffering from PTSD and frequent night terrors, knowingly and deliberately led the group into an unmarked cavern so they'd all be dependent on her, killed Beth (it doesn't matter if it was an accident because she still killed her), and lied to everyone about how Beth died instead of just saying that she accidentaly killed Beth. Juno is a horrible person. And who cares if Sarah left Juno to die? Juno fucked her husband and put the whole group in this situation just because she wanted to play the fearless leader role. None of this would've happened if Juno hadn't lead them into this unmarked cavern. Juno is responsible for the deaths of everyone else in the group. She deserved to die.

I actually liked the character Juno. She's flawed & had an affair with her friend's husband. Okay. But, the guy was up for it too. If anything, a guy who's in a relationship, still decides to cheat on his partner, is more to be blamed, than the side-chick. He's the one who's married & has a kid, not the other woman. Despite the cheating factor, Juno is very decisive, can think quickly, fights like a boss & probably the best person to tag along with if I wanted to find a way out of the cave, alive. She genuinely tried to help others, when no one else seemed to bother much. And, Beth got killed bcz of her own stupidity. Instead of reaching someone from behind who's onto a God mode defensive fighting level, perhaps wait in the corner for the tension to die out or call her first? And she knew about the affair, so why didn't she utter this out when everyone was alive?

I knew nothing about this movie when I bought it....didn't get to see the alternate ending.... I'm not sure which I prefer. When Sarah finally crawls out into the sunlight and open air after all that time spent confined in tight passages and total darkness, the colors changing from browns and blood red to cool blues and greens, and takes in that first gasp of fresh air after facing so much horror and gore, as an audience member you FEEL her enormous relief, can almost smell the pine trees, feel the cool air hit her face... And then BAM they slam you with the *real* ending where she's still stuck in the cave. The way the movie completely snuffs out that little glimmer of hope you felt for Sarah for just an instant is just so damn brutal and cruel. Yet as much as I wish she could have gotten the "good" ending, I still have to say I prefer the "bad" ending; it just works so much better than cutting to black after a cheap jump scare.
