Andy's friends and boyfriend absolutely suck, no one will ever convince me otherwise. Journalism is an incredibly tough industry to break into, and her assistant job was a temporary step up for her to reach her dream, maybe a year or two commitment tops. They should have understood this, and supported her instead of adding to her stress. For them to mess with her phone, or sulk/whine when she is forced to skip a birthday party (like they couldn't celebrate another time?) due to a work conflict, that is pure childishness on their parts. And in terms of her "changing" - that's what people do! They grow, evolve, find new things they enjoy, that's part of growing up. I hate that she reconciles with Nate in the end of this film, it basically ruins the ending for me. He expected her to uproot her life so he could be a perennial child, even though he put down her ambitions time and time again and repeatedly showed he couldn't be counted on? Ugh. Would've much preferred her moving on by herself a little wiser thanks to Miranda, with a new job, a new outlook on life, and only surrounding herself with people who truly care for and support her.

This!!! Love the movie, own it, but it really wimps out at the end. You’re right, it didn’t show real growth. She still learned valuable things from Miranda. I’d be lying if I said I’d have given away all the free Paris stuff…….gift a few to Emily, yes😜

her boyfriend is a chef and he doesn't understand long shifts, demanding bosses and having to skip personal affairs for work?? Like, c'mon, anyone who has worked in hospitality knows and understand how hard is to match up schedules with SO and friends! like that for me feels that he was envy, he didn't want her to success. knowing she have to "sacrifice and suck it up for one year", any sensible SO and friend would be cheering up on her.

I've worked in fashion all my life, since early 90s. Not at the high level depicted here, but I definitely did have a very Miranda-esque boss at one point. Complete with the long, intimidating head to toe outfit appraisals. I honestly learned so much from that frightening woman. 25 yrs later, I still quote brilliant things she said. As well as having the best stories whenever the conversation turns to "horrible bosses from my past" 😂

Yes, everyone at Runway was mean to Andi in some way when she started and they should have given her more training, but watching back as an adult who has now held multiple jobs and a career, I think it’s kind of hilarious when we are like “omg her job is sooo hard and no one is telling her what to do!” Like it’s actually the exact opposite, she’s being told every step she needs to take and her main job responsibilities include taking notes, running errands, and answering the phone and messages… like I would be so pissed if I hired an assistant who couldn’t do those basic tasks within a week of working for me, so now I’m like wow they were so nice to keep her on when she was so incompetent for so long 😂, irl anyone else would have been fired for far less!

Meryl Streep is so good in this. An inferior actress would have played Miranda Priestly as wielding her power loudly. She would have yelled, she would have shown a temper. But Meryl Streep chose to speak softly and use her eyes. By speaking so softly, she had everyone tiptoeing around her and her gaze could be downright glacial. The effect is quite chilling.

In 1988 Meryl Streep was in a movie called "A Cry In The Dark". It's about a mother whose child was killed in a dingo attack in the Australian Outback who fights to prove her innocence when she is accused of murder. THIS IS A TRUE STORY. You'll hear Meryl with an Australian accent in this one. You should check it out.

FYi Rob Marshall, director for yhe films Into the Woods and Mary Poppins considers Emily Blunt to be the Meryl Streep of her generation (and Streep apparently agrees). Prada was the film that brought her to prominence in the US. It led to character parts, which was her goal. She's a shape-shifter at heart, and also good with accents like Streep (see Looper and Oppenheimer,).

I like to think the ending hinted verrrry subtly that Nate might be closer to on the outs than we thought. How? With the clothes Andy is wearing. No, she's not wearing designer clothes anymore, but she's not wearing her old clothes either. Because THAT'S the real impression the job left on her: finally understanding the importance in putting some effort into your appearance, even if it's only for yourself.

This was a movie I had no interest in seeing when I was in college and I am so glad my friend talked me into it. Having not read the book I am not sure how accurate it is but since my mother worked in a clothing store during the 80s I can say this is how it was and probably still is. Her boss was like Miranda when she walked the floor everyone shut up and acted professional and looked busy. Employees had to be up on the latest trends and everything. Sometimes I had to spend my days there so I got to know her co-workers and I hung out in their small toys and Electronics department playing Nintendo. To this day I was the only one who could make her boss laugh and be happy. Such a good film.

All Andy had to do to get Miranda back to New York was get her in a car and have it drive north until she could then find a different airport which was still open. Also, if she needs handouts from her father in order to pay the rent why is she giving away thousands of dollars worth of free stuff instead of selling them?

I look at Andy's relationship with her boyfriend and friends much differently that the reactors. Manhattan is a very expensive city to live in and a hard place to make it in any business. Her boyfriend should be more supportive and understanding. That and her friends were more than happy to take the expensive free gifts from Andy but unwilling to realize the lengths Andy goes to to get the perks. Maybe it's just me because I know NYC and how hard it can be to be someone.

The thing is, Andrea went for this job and decided to plunge a little bit deeper so as to learn from the inside. Her friends and that scumbag BF? They showed their real little faces in that restaurant scene 'throwing her mobile onto each other', as for that infant boyfriend - he sees her growth and doesn't want her to do well and neither do her phony friends. Miranda? She gave her a sink or swim opportunity, though. Andrea CHOSE to swim 🏊

I loathed her boyfriend and “friends”. They behaved in a very immature fashion.

Sorry, but the boyfriend and her friends were jerks. Why couldn't the boyfriend be happy she was going to Paris? This is her CAREER and he was selfish and unsupportive. He was a villain in this.
