“Cancer” “Jon wrote the chorus when a hero of his passed away. When he heard that he had died, Jon’s initial reaction was that he hoped it was cancer, rather than something like suicide or an overdose. Then, upon that realization, he thought, ‘How could you think such a thing? Why was that my immediate reaction?’ Hoping for cancer is the most horrible thing you could hope for, really. But it speaks to the notion of degradation, the idea of Color Decay. The chorus is asking, ‘What does my reaction say about myself?’ For most of us, it’s our favorite song on the album.”

It's a fucking banging album. It's not about being pure metalcore throughout the entirety of the album. The Devil Wears Prada has truly made a dark, oppressive, emotional work of art.

Never been a huge fan of this band, but this album is one of my favorites of the year. So emotional and has helped me a ton this week. Absolutely blown away and shocked by how much I love it

I love The Devil Wears Prada because they are not afraid to be themselves in their music, and they're not afraid to take risks experimenting. It's their signature weirdness that really makes them unique, and this album is, in my opinion, the best representation of TDWP. Of course, I love the heavy stuff, but the songs that really pull me in from this album are Twenty-Five and Fire. Twenty-Five unfortunately has some eerily-similar personal relevance, and Fire is just a mood and a half (I want to make some bad decisions in an underground dance club when I hear it). Somehow they manage to feel like cohesive pieces of the album while having completely unique sounds, too. Lyrically, the album is a masterpiece, and there really isn't much else to be said there. Drums are absolutely nuts throughout, as well. What a freaking incredible album top to bottom. Enjoyed the reaction/review!

When I first heard Cancer, it was so personal for me. It reminded me of a time that I wish I was just dying from cancer because I thought it would be easier than going through what I was for a while. Dying from that felt like it would be easier to explain and deal with. Dark times. But what a great album. It's probably my favorite for the year.

I had the same thoughts about Cancer, it really hit me when I was listening to it. It feels like there are so many people passing away from OD’s, or s**cide, or any other horrible thing. This past christmas, a close friend lost their brother to a random laced-drug OD. So it really feels like when you hear about someone passing, you think “i hope it was cancer, cuz any other reason just feels so needless and pointless and unavoidable”. Really powerful track and closer.

Christ, this album broke me. I was a sobbing mess throughout, even thru some of the heavy tracks. It's relatable, it's honest, it's fuckin' raw, and on a lot of these tracks.. it genuinely hurts. It feels like there's a cohesive theme of loss on this record, be it death or distance. Like "Twenty-Five", my favorite on the album, it ruined me. From what I've read, the lyrics are about a devastating breakup, but reading through, one can interpret it as losing friends to suicide or overdose, or simply just growing apart from someone who was once your closest, most trusted friend. All of which are things I sadly relate to. And then closing off with "Cancer" just a few tracks later ruined me even further because it's on the same level with those themes of loss. Obviously songs like "Watchtower" and "Trapped" do a lot of the set up for those two tracks, and on revisiting the record, they amplified the hurt, already knowing what's coming. Didn't think I'd be a sobbing baby the second time through, but here we are. And I can't leave this off without mentioned how the opening line of "Time" is something i relate to on a fundamental level. Maybe one day we'll get there, but right now, it really is just too hard to explain. To my best friends Meghan and Stephanie, relating this album to the friendship we shared inspired me to write a lyric. "How can I mourn you when you've never left my side?" I miss you both. RIP 🖤
