A few minutes into this show, I realized this episode speaks directly to our America in the 21st century. When Rob said Dr. Helper's jacket button offended him and that he had no right, legally, morally, or ethically, to rip it off, it hit me; there is a segment of American society today who believe that they can do as they please to those who do not agree with their views. These people believe that legally, morally, or ethically their views are the only views that matter, and anyone who disagrees with them is fair game! In all of my decades on this earth, I have never seen America in such a heartbreaking condition. There was once a time when Americans had the Right of Freedom of Speech, sadly, it's long gone now, along with many other Rights.

Freedom of Speech is still here. When these entitled crybabies grow tired of getting hit in the head every time they act up things will return to normal.

For some reason, it is the left, the liberals, the progressives who seem to be most threatened , offended, insulted by free speech these days - and will do anything in their power to silence and oppress those who disagree with them politically. Now we even have Big Tech collaborating with government institutions , to ensure election of Democrat politicians. I left the USA last year and retired in Latin America. this was not the country I grew up in - the hatred, the division, social media, cable news; so much negativity, too stressful to endure. Life is too short.

@marinazagrai1623 Жыл бұрын
@@saran3214 Obviously, online, we can’t tell anything about the other person…but I’ll say I was in HS in the mid 80s, and there was shaming for girls who were not the ideal weight (I was an immigrant so no one looked at me, which is fine) and it wasn’t overt; the heavier girls were shunned from the hip groups. You know how teens are. As women, there were diets during the 90s… it seems every month something was new. The fact that the script included Sally being on a diet in many episodes shows the trend, and not for health reasons. It’s a little complicated.

Many kids, including myself, were left home alone because we had discipline and knew what to do and not to do. My Sister and I did fight, so it was not perfect, but it was ok to be left alone in the 1980s and 1990s.
@hollybigelow5337 Жыл бұрын
I agree with the person who says "the belcher" was a babysitter, not simply a friend. However, now that I think of it when I was 8 years old my parents signed me up to get my babysitting certificate, and I often watched my younger siblings. My parents had rules about it. First, they wanted me to know what I was doing, which is why they had me get my certificate. Second, until I turned I think it was 12 I was only allowed to babysit for a total of an hour, but a couple could easily have dinner in an hour. At 10 I could easily see them making an exception for 2 hours as well, which is VERY doable for dinner. And while they didn't say or show it, I suspect they got proper food for Ritchie as well. Perhaps they let him eat something that he would enjoy eating for dinner that the adults wouldn't consider eating for dinner like breakfast cereal. Or maybe they ordered pizza. The way they were discussing not having anything to eat sounded more like a, "this is a perfect excuse for us to have date night," discussion rather than a "if we order pizza for our son and the babysitter we no longer have an excuse to eat out," discussion. Or maybe Ritchie had already eaten at a friend's house. Or perhaps they were planning on ordering something for Ritchie at the restaurant and bringing it home for him to eat later. It was very common to leave kids home that young back in the day, but I will admit it was generally protocol to make sure the kids had something to eat, and Rob and Laura have a history of following protocol, so I'm convinced there was a solution to the food problem for Ritchie even if they didn't both to get into the unnecessary details of what Ritchie ate.
