I'm completely captivated by the beauty of these rare plants! I've got 3 Thai Constellations that I grew from tissue culture - what a challenge! As an artist on a budget, I can't always afford the real thing, so I've started creating realistic versions of any rare or expensive plant I like, without breaking the bank. haha

I love the white on the leaves. I'm new to monstera. So, I was wondering why would anyone want one with a lot of white on the leaves if it's just going to turn brown first and have to cut it off? And pay more? Thanks!

Hi great video. I have a Thai Constellation which is giving me creamy white which I love. Do you think it could be an Albo? Does the Thai only go yellow when it matures? I prefer the white.

Sometimes my Albos look yellow-ish, but the sure test to check for Thai is the “splashing” spots across the leaf that resemble little shooting stars, as cheesy as that sounds 😆 it’s true!

The white parts do not need to die off if proper care is taken. So, I think that is an inaccurate statement and I respectfully disagree. If they are browning off, there is either an inconsistency with watering or an issue within the environment (which is usually a result of not acclimating the plant slowly to a lower or higher humidity causing "melt" if too high or crispy edges if too low). I have several albo, aurea, and Thai con that are not browning. Example: I have a beautiful half moon Borsigiana albo that has 10 leaves so far and nothing is brown. Typically browning is letting the plant dry out too long before watering = crispy brown edges. Or watering too much, which may be just at the tip of the leaf, if just a slight issue, or more centrally located in the leaf if the issue is greater. It is a harder to spot wet look at first, but it's there. The leaf tissue cells burst from not being able to utilize or transpire the extra water fast enough, which then very soon after turns soft brown and then that is usually when it is noticed. These spots are found more often centrally in the leaf and more often first in the variegated sections due to the lack of chlorophyll to be able to utilize the amount of excess water via photosynthesis. Either result of watering inconsistency can then end up with a yellow halo at the edge of the leaf damage, which is a bacterial infection setting in and should be removed and then the plant should be treated with a bactericide or at a minimum the newly cut edge. Which can be as simple as applying not just any cinnamon, but Ceylon cinnamon. That's actually the cinnamon that has the bactericide properties that people speak of. Or there are several chemical options available. Browning is fairly common, that I will agree with. It's generally because people are afraid to overwater, especially since these Monstera are so prone to rot. Then if course there are the "helicopter plant parents" that hover over the plant and water too often and love them... To death many times. Happy growing 💚

This is a super interesting comment. I agree in large part that browning is typically caused for inconsistent water AND / OR variable humidity (sub 50%, above 70%), and the assumption the exact plant has enough chlorophyll on its other leaves to support to heavily white parts of the leaves. AND those green parts are being delivered enough light. AND the plant is being given enough macronutrients, namely nitrogen. I have many 7-15 leaved Albos with zero browning on the white parts of the leaves. But they are “perfectly” variegated specimens (good balance of white v green). But then I have many 7+ leafers with lots of white, and brown many leaves. This tends to correlate with plants that are too white heavy. Same watering schedule (automated), same feed, same light, same environment. Thank you for the thoughtful comment. This statement did need more clarification 🤗

Love your channel . I have what I thought was a borsigiana but it’s started to get the small fenestations not just the slits . Does this make it a deliciosa ?

Thank you! It’s so hard to exactly tell, especially when the plant is younger. The Deliciosa will show its age and be able to differentiate once it’s an older plant. Look for the large leaves to get bigger, have inner fenestrations, and the wrinkle at the top of the leaf is a dead giveaway for Deliciosa!

I found this video while researching Monstera Standleyanna. I have both the "Albo" and "Aurea" varieties and I have to be honest... I don't see where they are really different. My Albo, which I've had for about 3 years, can develop leaves with the creamy yellowish variegation and my Aurea has leaves that look more white than yellow. They look like the same plant to me. I'd love for you to do a video on that plant if you have those in your collection. Standleyanna is one of my favorites (next to my Thai Con) because it grows really well and looks amazing climbing a pole. It's growth habbit is full and compact giving you a beautiful plant vs some climbers that have big node spacing. FYI, I too have had no issues with any of my Thai Constellations I've grown. They handle neglect well and grow faster for me than what I was originally led to believe they would.

Can you find each borsigiana in those different varigations: marbled, sectoral, thai constellation, even mint and aurea? I'm a beginner plant anthusiast but m. deliciosa are just too big for my space.

You can find borsigiana for albo sectoral and marbled, and potentially for Aurea. I’ve never seen Thai Con that stays small. She always eventually puts out the massive deliciosa leaves!

Monstera deliciosa Albo Variegata. Monstera deliciosa Aurea variegata. Monstera deliciosa Borsigiana Albo variegata. Monstera deliciosa Borsigiana Aurea variegata. Monstera deliciosa ‘Thai Constellation’. Monstera deliciosa ‘Aurea Thai Constellation’. Monstera deliciosa ‘ Aurea ‘. There are many more, I don’t grow the mint varieties or the tricolours. Borsigiana is just a smaller clone of deliciosa, it’s the same species. Everything different to the wild form is literally a sport.

@@prettyingreen sorry I haven’t watched it. My post grad is in plant science. My thesis was on recapitulation theory. Borsigiana is types with a higher case letter because it’s a form/ cultivar of deliciosa.

Lots of people claims Borsigiana to be separate species of Monstera which is far from the truth. It is more like a cultiver of Deliciosa. Your comment nailed it.

I can honestly say I'm not sure! But I will venture a guess that they are slightly visual variations on these primary types of Variegated Monstera i.e. Creme Brule Thai Constellation is a highly creamy & minty Thai Con!! Hope this helps!!

It depends. If the node below where you’re cutting has a mixture of white and green on the axial bud; or just one color

I have an Aurea that has 5 leaves on it…..i desperately want to start propping. When I do what do you suggest I propergate with? Just water?

Yes, wait for an adventitious root to form with a yellow cap at the end, cut below it and place it in water (potentially with an air stone/pump). And change water out as often as possible!

After I cut beneath the aerial root do I just leave the remaining “mother” plant intact in the soil? There are three leaves left on the mother plant… Should I uproot all of it and see if there are other areas that I could propagate as well? I am just so nervous to start propagating this Aurea

@@marymiller5824 Correct--leave the mother plant alone to recover. Make sure she has some leaves/nodes remaining to grow from!
