Wow! That first Selenicereus cactus sure look more like a fern to me than a cactus. Unbelievable! Thank you so much Lyn for granting my video request. I knew you would be a great resource person because not only can you talk about them, you can also show specific examples from your own collection. I learned so much more than I expected from this video. I did take down notes! 😊 Like I always say, you inspired me to start my own collection and I always learn a lot from you. I appreciate you. Great video, definitely one of my favorite. 👍🏼👍🏼⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cheers from Nevada to Ireland.

Hi Sandy :-D so happy you love the collection, thats wonderful that you have bought some succulents, and the night blooming cereus are fantastic big white bloomers, I have a small dancing bones plant that also likes to drop segments a lot, I think they are very prone to dropping segments, I started to spray mine with rainwater every couple of days and this seems to have helped it, thanks so much for subscribing and for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

Hi there! Beautiful collection!!! It's quite possible long term excess (direct) light has damaged the top sections of the paradoxa. There's no recovery from that - as long as the damage doesnt choke the core off it can still carry water to the ends. If it were mine I would just lower the light and if the ends start to fail I would cut and prop all the ends. Otherwise it can survive as is - it's just not as pretty as it once was but it's still beautiful!

Informative video, really nice to see all the different varieties! Do you also have Disocactus? One thing I could add is that the epiphytic cacti that need less water (like Cleistocactus) are that way because they either grow on exposed rocky outcrops in the tropical forest (which then technically makes them lithophytes), where the water doesn't stay very long due to the scorching sun; or some of them grow as epiphytes, but in dryer forests where it does not rain every day so they have adapted to longer drought periods.
@desertplantsofavalon4 жыл бұрын

Regarding Rhipsalis paradoxa, have you tried repotting and replacing the soil? Soil naturally wears out (carbon cycle) and should be replaced every so often with new organic material. The soil we keep in pots isn't typically replenished as it is in nature.

Hi Lyn, I'm sure you were already told or found out by now, but just in case, I think I have the same Rhipsalis as the one you show at 5:52 and ask for ID. I think that is a Rhipsalis Bolivianum, also known as Lepismium Bolivianum (don't know which came first), but that's just according to my own search and I'm not 100% sure but am always looking around other people's videos and photos to try and ID. I absolutely think this is one of the most beautiful plants on the planet!!!! Yours looks so healthy, I'm still trying to find out which location mine prefers and moving it further and closer to the window. Anyway, today I was able to purchase a Begonia Listada cutting which I've only ever seen on your youtube channel (in a video about the Belfast Botanical Gardens) so I'm delighted!

Hi there, unfortunately there used to be a very good nursery called Matts Landscape and he used to have a wonderful selection of epiphytic cacti available in the states, but sadly his nursery is no longer going, there is an online nursery called Tropiflora that have epiphytic cacti and mail out to U.S and I know of some nurseries online from Germany but I am not sure if they mail out outside of Europe, but you could try uhligkakteen.com and kakteenhaage.com, I am so sorry that I don't know of any other nurseries in the states that sell Epiphytic cacti, but if I find out of any more I will let you know, thanks so much for watching and wishing you a fantastic plant powered Thursday XXXX

Both Epiphylum and Aporocactus belong to the Hylocereeae group. Aporocactus is the more ancient lineage while the "Epiphylum cacti" are mainly from two genera, Epiphylum and Disocactus. Most hybrid cultivars of Epiphylum cacti are Disocactus.
