My Dad was a stunt man, in the UK back in the 60s and 70s. He had a lot of work in this movie, he was the German who got shot in the bell tower. Always said it was one of the best films he ever worked on.

2:07. I liked that bit. Soldier gets shot in the forehead and manages to hold his hands up to his face before dropping. It doesn't happen like that; you'd just go down like a lead balloon.

This was a great film, but it was about 30 minutes too long. There was too much time devoted to the training sequences and silly interplay prior to the mission. But once they get to the enemy compound, things really pick up.

It's amazing what dreadful shots the Germans were. Some great actors in this with genuine WW2 experience and heroism but the 2ish mph escape in vehicles under fire from Mr Magoo Germans was hysterical.

It's amazing how this preposterous film ever got made, or that it captured such a large audience. Even the characters themselves admit that the whole idea is ridiculous!

It's a classic. All practical effects, no CGI. Quentin Tarantino probably got inspiration from this film for his "Inglorious Basterds" & "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".. which also taking liberty of any historical accuracies.
