The fact that her remains will probably never be recovered from that dump site, just breaks my heart. That poor girl was tortured and brutally murdered and she can never be laid to rest by her family. This is absolutely horrific.

It would be difficult, but not totally impossible to find her. I know if it was my kid, I would personally search on my own... I'll never understand how somebody could torture and kill an innocent person. If you're miserable with your life, then take your own life. Leave others alone!

There's a permanent memorial garden on the corner of Goodwin and Clark in Urbana, where Yingying was last seen. Someone still places fresh flowers there every few days. To be honest I’m scared. I live in Illinois. On Halloween a creepy white van circled around my neighborhood. So I ran home. Also I was at a hotel with my little sister. So this creepy guy started whistling at us and we turned around my mom was standing behind him but he didn’t know and she was signing “go” so we ran. Then once we walked to the car alone. All his friends across the street started yelling. So my uncle started chasing him. The owner of the hotel stayed at the car with us and asked “are you kids ok?

While I agree, it's also notable that picking someone up, strangling them, taking them back to your house, raping them, and bludgeoning them before decapitating them on a first kill is also uncommon. So while decapitation is rare on a first murder, so is everything else he did. Stephen McDaniel committed a similar crime and he also decapitated the body and threw it in a dumpster on his first and only murder *shrug* Also, fwiw, which is nothing, he sounds like he's completely full of shit when he's bragging to his wife.

Trying multiple ways and failing and just resulting in cutting the head off screams amateur (like the saying goes, cut the head the body dies, he was panicking at that point) people dont understand how long and difficult strangling someone actually is, they think it's like a movie and is easy, a seasoned killer has a strategy and an MO, he was trying and failing different ways He also said the 13 murders were his legacy, that screams he made it up for fame, he didn't wanna look like the stupid guy that got caught on his first murder, no no hes smart so hes done it before....

In some cultures, feigning or exaggerating mourning is a show of respect, some have professional mourners that weep, wail and bang things as well as 'droop'. Not saying it applies here, but it might. That's not to say they don't actually feel loss and sorrow. Only pointing out that it needs to be dramatic as well. It was very interesting to learn about and witness.

The problem is, lots of activists now say that it’s “shaming” when you advise young women to take care of themselves and say that “we should educate men not to attack women” As if anyone is educating men to do that. It’s so they can claim it’s the fault of ALL men - like we have a culture behind women’s back that we want to hurt them (madness) You can’t educate rapists not to rape. They know it’s wrong. That’s WHY they do it. It’s like trying to educate a thief not to steal. Much better to educate women (and men) of potential realities which are unpleasant but it’s the way it is. You can’t cure it like you can’t cure death or taxes.

You have to understand that some communities are made differently. Usually this is true and it's an obvious rule that I agree with but some communities really don't care about these things. Of course this is double edged because not everyone is trust worthy and is a 'decent person'. For instance in north america, canada and the us, there's a huge issue with letting kids go out and being by themselves and walking home but in places like japan you have kids taking subways or just walking many miles do errands. The reason why this was possible is because of the communities trust in each other. Go figure, lower crime rates. China is not different but not as great as Japan. They also have low crime rate and communal trust in each other compared to the US. So I agree with what you're saying but its not always the right answer because some places are just different. 😅

I remember I missed my bus by 2 seconds, and was frustrated that I had to wait 30 mins to an hour for the next one, and the transit supervisor ( they have the transit logo on the car) pulled over and told me that the bus will take 40 mins to come again and that he will drop me off at the subway terminal, I was a little hesitant about it but he was like just come in. As I didn’t want to have to wait and was a little pressured I got in and he drove me to the terminal as said and was nice. But even though nothing happen I will never do that again- you never know who you’re getting in to the car with.

I don't buy that Yingying was his only victim. Edit: I'm not saying I believe his confession, nor am I necessarily saying he's killed others. A lot of serial killers start with leaving living victims before they start killing. Even once they've begun to kill, sometimes they don't kill them all - it's sometimes how they're captured.

I've seen some other comments like this too. It is indeed possible that he had killed before and perhaps that will come to light in the future. Anyway I suspect that he's lying/exaggerating to make himself seem like more of a hardcore killer than he is. Perhaps Yingying was his first kill ever and that was why he struggled with her so much and why he didn't cover his tracks better. It may seem strange but killers and serial killers alike have lied and embellished their body counts. The most famous of which is probably the case of Henry Lee Lucas, who confessed to dozens of murders but it was later discovered that the majority of these confessions were falsehoods and he was taking credit for crimes committed by others to get more notoriety.

Knives are bad idea, they usually get turned on you. Carry pepper spray or rape alarm and try to avoid any risky situations to begin with. Carrying fake guns I think is illegal in some counties (Britain?) Edited to add you're best safety equipment is actually a camera phone which updates Facebook quickly, so you can take their photo and people see it immediately. This could reduce harm from even happening to you, but it has weaknesses like you need network coverage and them to not take your phone from you. Take their photo as soon as you are suspicious!

Stories like this remind me of when I used to walk a long country road at 4am to get to work, and a handful of times people would stop and offer me a ride (spookily, always men) I declined them all fiercely and was always clutching my phone and (if i remembered to put it there) mace in my jacket. One time, it was a customer who I had seen around the store a lot and claimed to be friends with my boss so I accepted, until when I got to work and everyone saw me get out of his car they were shocked, and told me that he wasn't anyone's friend and he was considered a creepy nuisance.... I always think back and realize how close I could have been to a story like this. ( A nice interaction did occur tho- Once a car slowed down and I did my usual mace holding until it ended up being a lady who was practically begging me to take this high visibility safety jacket for free cause she was worried I wouldn't be seen and be hit....What an angel.)

Good points all around, my friend... She might have also been just way too trusting of strangers... Some college-age women can be quite gullible. Especially if they are new to the area, or unfamiliar with the place and its people. Either that, or he might've somehow convinced her to get in the car with some bullshit lies or excuses just to get her to go home with him. You can just tell by the way how he answers questions from those detectives in the interrogation room; that he is INDEED a sneaky, cunning, and deceptive/manipulative sonofabitch. Something along the lines of like: "Oh sorry, I need to just swing by my place real quick and pick up something important that I forgot at home this morning. It'll only take like a couple of minutes, I promise." 🤨
