Can you stop showing your face so often in these videos as if we actually need to see it. Yes, your face is scary and gross but we would rather look at the animated movies thanks.

I know Watership Down is on this iceberg somewhere. That movie traumatized me when I was a kid. 40 years later and I can still see flashes of the rabbits fighting and dying, like I watched the movie yesterday

12:17 I'm pretty sure Padak was made to be disturbing with the purpose of showing the cruelty of what happens to fish in some restaurants, like the fish being half alive while eaten.

It feels weird to see End of Evangelion and Nightmare Before Christmas in the same tier. Nightmare Before Christmas just has some creepy imagery, while End of Evangelion is full blown Cosmic Horror and has gory violence

The actual Evangelion series leading up to that one is awesome tho.

My dude, I can promise you there are many artists that create strange and nonsensical stuff like "Heaven and Earth Magic" just for the sake of it. Making strange stuff with no meaning can be fun. I'm willing to bet the creator of that movie made up that plot cause it also sounded strange and wild. Not to be a "its not that deep bro" commenter cause it is very important to examine media for theme and meanings, but sometimes an artist just comes up with strange stuff and compiles it all cause its fun to get those bizarre ideas out.

"The first part depicts the heroine's toothache consequent to the loss of a valuable watermelon, her dentistry and transportation to heaven. Next follows an elaborate exposition of the heavenly land in terms of Israel, Montreal and the second part depicts the return to earth from being eaten by Max Muller on the day Edward the Seventh dedicated the Great Sewer of London." HOLD UP HIS WRITING IS THIS FIRE!??!!?! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣🗣🗣🗣

34:29 Alfred Jarry wrote three different Ubu plays-- Ubu Roi ('King Ubu'), Ubu Cocu ('Ubu Cuckolded'), and Ubu Enchaine ('Ubu Enslaved'). The plot seems to be a composite of both the first and third, and the nonsensical nature of everything is rather deliberate-- Ubu Roi (which you mispronounced, 'Oo-boo Ruh-wah' would be more accurate) is considered to be a forerunner of surrealism (it was written in the 1890s, on the tailend of the Symbolist movement, and Alfred Jarry is considered by many to be the first surrealist and the first modernist artist).
@jamespaytondelaney9707Ай бұрын
Came looking for this. Ubu and Adam 2 were also both directed by Jan Lenica, who was a surrealist cartoonist, so it's odd to see his work criticized for absurdity when it was the intention.

19:12 This movie has a small easter egg, In a scene when the MC is in school you can see Tommy(One of the WTDGTD MC's) in the background I watched a review by Geny FEAR so that's how I know
@KazuyaMithraАй бұрын
Genocyber kicks ass. The creator Koichi Ohata also made MD Geist and is a huge fan of giant robots and B movies. Same goes for Wicked City, Yoshiaki Kawajiri's style is incredibly slick. Surprised Violence Jack hasn't made it to any of these icebergs, its easily the most f'd up old OVA out there.

it's so weird because when i was younger, maybe around 6 years old. my dad used to play metropia for me all the time, and i never truly understand what it was at a young age (obviously), but i always thought the animation was unique and has never left my memories.

Holy crap I remembering seeing a few snippets of Tale of Tales, the only lasting memory being the artstyle and the wolf tending to a crying baby For literal decades I kept that image in my head, unsure if I was ever going to see the origins of it, and now this video appeared in my timeline giving me closure n that mystery film! Thank you so much!

Suprised The Secret Life of Tom Thumb was not on this list that one even the Human Actors are filmed like stop motion in it. Or Well if you watch all 3 together The Intolerance Trilogy by Phil Mulloy. If you was picking short animations things like The Sandman,Toxic and all of Phil Mulloys work would work. As for Root Search anytime it tries to be scary the Screen flashes alot which could be harmfull to some people.

I think the film of Ubu is trying to mash together the original play with two never produced plays by the same creator. A lot of what it was satirizing was of its time, in terms of specifics, and thus gets a bit lost in translation to a modern audience. But the core idea is to just portray people who strive for power as buffoons and cuckholds who cause tons of damage to the world for their own pointless goals. It’s meant to be very crude and derogatory and senseless as a way of demonstrating that leaders are also crude and senseless. It also satirizes Shakespeare by referencing common tropes and ways of speaking from his plays. All in all though, it is intentionally avant-garde which a great majority of people just don’t get anything out of. The play itself makes a bit more sense on a basic narrative level though. The film adaptation seems strung together on a wing and a prayer. There are better modernized versions that actually use the symbol of Ubu as a power hungry idiot to better effect.
