I mean yeah, but it’s more about her being mentally ill.. doesn’t at all excuse what she did but it’s not necessarily far fetched for her to have genuinely believed that she was doing what was best for her children.. it’s fucked up but to put it really bluntly, mental illnesses can make you do the most fucked up things.. even hypothetically when we talk about ethics, most people do what they do thinking it’s for the right reasons, even if they know or don’t know that they’re hurting someone, it’s for the right reasons for them.. either way, everyone who took part should’ve received harsher convictions at least.

Most people look at the victim and want to help but dont take a second look at attacker. They just assume he's just violent and she did something to perpetuate it in a backwards way of victim blaming. Hearing stories like this one make me so grateful for my parents. I used to get so annoyed by them, I thought it was overbearing. My mom will always call me if I forget it text her when I get somewhere, because she worries so much about me. And she would have to talk to my friend’s parents before I could come over. When I was younger I thought it was annoying because I never thought anything would happen to me. But hearing about stories like this made me understand. I seriously love my parents so much and I so thankful for them.

As a Czech, I can say that it's an extremely sensitive but also very important case here because it literally changed a law. It also led to an increase in the number of employees of social and legal protection of children and the issue of child abuse has been more public. The justice in Europe works differently, it is not anglo-american law system, we do not have law of punishment. You can't get life in prison here in Czechia for anything else except horrific murder, terrorism or parricide (there is currently less then 50 people on it).

The Mother of the two boys is way more complicit in this then she has claimed and the police have suggested there is being gullible and easily manipulated then there is watching your own children being forced to eat their own skin for some random teenage girl your sister brought to your doorstep. It wouldn't shock me if Klara had expressed to her sister she wanted a daughter so that's how they knew she would take her in. Still, no one is as stupid as this woman is claiming to be so the guy had a document why would a "doctor" need to meet you in a dark parking lot? Then she also somehow believed this "doctor" was the one who could approve the adoption? and lastly, this women just went along with this "doctors" plan to break the law and torture her own children, because that would somehow help her adopt this random girl? Nope sorry no way she didn't know some of what was actually going on once it got to that point. This has to be some type of cult because I can't see another way this many sick people would be able to find each other and come up with this whole thing, it might be some deranged offshoot of the religious group that's mentioned but it seems more that Barbara's father just sorta started his own thing and used the name of a known group to get followers. Though their explanation is very flimsy like why were these boys the only ones targeted and abused? did they do this to others before or was this the first time? Why did Klara's sister do this to her and her nephews? like did she know it would go as far as it did when it all started? Were they planning to do this to others but got caught before they could? I am left with so many questions because this is truly a crazy case. Glad the two boys are doing well and are working to make sure this trauma doesn't rule their lives, I wouldn't blame them if they had become shut-ins who trusted no one after this, but it's nice to hear they are living their lives to the fullest.

Klara wanted to love and protect "Annika," but in the process, she starts to abuse her own kids, which is beyond messed up. If the neighbor didn't see Ondrej on the baby monitor, it's very likely that both the boys would have been tortured to death eventually. The sentences they all received were pathetic, but to hear both Ondrej and Jakub are doing well in life is amazing.

I speak Czech and did a little digging around the DNA test required for Anička's adoption. Viktor Skála's daughter Marie impersonated Anička/Barbora for the DNA test. Her mother said at the court that she didn't know about it and found out later on from Katerina who came to tell her and apologize. She said "Marie didn't tell me anything and she didn't want to talk about it, not even once we already knew."

I was 8 years at that time and I still remember when all of this was happening. It was gruesome. This happened in my country. First of all, you did a great job pronouncing the words haha, Czech is a very difficult language. To explain the low sentences- the way it works in here is that we generally have quite low sentences, and at the same time, when you commit lets say 3 seperate crimes, for one of which you can get 8 years, for another 5 and for another 3, we do not sum it up to 16 years behind bars, but the highest sentence of them all consumes the lower ones, so you get the 8 years plus maybe some more for aggravating circumstances. Of course it is a bit more difficult but I tried to explain it the easiest way possible so that you get the picture. Xx

so I decided to look into this because I didn't remember this happening at all. let's recap: remember that in Czech Republic women get the -ova ending to their last names while men keep the base of the name as their last name Klara Mauerova - mother of the two tortured boys Ondrej and Jakub Katerina Maureova - Klara's sister, people say she was the making decisions about the torture, worked for an orphanage Hana Basova - aka aunt Nancy, worked with Katerina in the orphanage Radek Coufal - Ondrej and Jakub's father who testified he didn't know about any of this and didn't notice the boys were tortured for a year... Josef Skrla - Barbora and Jan's father, leader of the scout group called Ants Barbora Skrlova - aka Anicka aka Adam, Josef's daughter Jan Skrla - Josef's son, Barbora's brother and the Mysterious Doctor Martin Fahrner - real Adam's father, posed as Barbora's father when she was Adam, Josef's friend. Some say he was also an Ants cultist and that's why he allowed Barbora to take Adam's identity. He was also the one who said Barbora was forced into everything. Anna Sabatova - substitute/assistant to the ombudsman, didn't report the existence of a 13 year old Anicka to the government, allowing this to illegally go on for as long as it did Eduard Tvrdy - neighbor who picked up the babycam footage coming from Katerina's babycam Milana Smekalova - the doctor accused of not alerting authorities about boys being tortured Zuzana Skalova - worked with Katerina Mauerova at the orphanage Viktor Skala - Zuzana's husband, worked as an actor in Brno, remotely connected with the Ants but denied the connection Maria Skalova - Zuzana and Viktor's daughter, truly 13 at the time As to why the doctor didn't notice the boys were tortured - during their checkup, which happened 4 months after the brutal torture of the boys. Since they were wearing underwear, she didn't see the damage done to their behinds where the cutting off of the flesh happened. The court dismissed the accusation that Milana was in the wrong with the explanation that they can't prove she saw any marks or torture/injuries, therefore they can't accuse her of not reporting them. The judges decided that the other injuries they had couldn't be assumed to be from torture. The state lawyer argued otherwise, also pointed out that the boys were constantly excused from routine checkups, and that the doctor mistook small scars for insect bites. There's also been an argument that Barbora, aka Anicka and Adam, wasn't actually a mastermind manipulator but a victim of the scout group Ants who's been tortured before this whole thing even happened. Others say that excerpts from her diary show she knew exactly what she was doing and is responsible for her own actions and knew what she was doing to those boys, wasn't forced to act like a child or undergo surgeries. I was trying to look for the reason of the DNA testing and the whole exchange of Barbora with Maria. Apparently Katerina took Maria to give DNA samples instead of Barbora without her parents' permission (other sources say her mother knew about it) so they could legalize Barbora as Anicka Mauerova. Apparently, to go through with the adoption process, they needed to legalize the identity or Barbora as Anicka Mauerova and that had to come with DNA. Maria put in fake contacts as well, impersonated Babora in front of a judge, who believed standing before her was truly Anicka Mauerova. I have spent the last hour trying to figure this the f*ck out
