I grew up in the same church as Donny. I never really knew he was a celebrity until I got older but he really is one of the most genuine guys out there. He was my Sunday school teacher for a while and he would message me asking how I'm doing since I wasn't really active in the Sunday school group thing. I'm an exmormon now, but people like Donny really made the church feel like a much more welcoming place despite the flaws of Mormonism. It's just really rare to see a celebrity prioritize family values over fame and greed.

A man who is devoted to his wife and family, and who is the recipient of their love and devotion in return, is far richer than the most wealthy celebrities on earth. It wasn't just Donny facing bankruptcy - it was the WHOLE Osmond clan. Mainly due to someone w/ access to their finances taking or mismanaging their monies. Plus, they invested a good portion of their fortune into building a studio in Provo and just didn't have other shows coming there to film.

It is surprisingly a common story with a lot of the most popular teen idols of the 70s. Michael Jackson's father tried to over manage his sons' careers. The same with The Cowsills and with David Cassidy. It is obvious why. Parents know when their kids are moneymakers.
@Melinda81626 жыл бұрын
L Martinez I believe his old man was just as "controlling" as old man Jackson and others who used their kids who become famous young! Besides the Osmonds are Mormon and they believe in 'sharing the wealth' with the rest of the family! Not me! I'd have fired that leech. Oh, and Donny "had" to get married because his religion forbids that pre-marital sex, you know ....and so was she. And, he wanted to dip his wick....so.....had to marry to do that! yuck. No "sampling" the goods first in that family! 🤣🤣😁. !!!

Diane Milligan You evidently don't comprehend well. Where did I say it was a requirement?? We ALL know many do pre-marital sex - now days, and have been! (haha, wow big news!). But, as he's said, the ole Mormon faith forbids that to those who follow. So do most. And, how many abide? haha.

How do you know Doug Perschka? I have seen interviews and read books by the Osmonds. Some say he was verbally and could be physically abusive. Both his father and mother were selfish to put all of them through that kind of lifestyle. Yes I said it. His mother too! She condoned it. I do not care how much they loved them. The Osmond men were abused and Marie was a spoiled brat. Also that show was the dumbest thing ever! Poor Donny and Marie. They never got paid for all their hard work while their father and probably Alan pocketed all the money. Their probably the cause of them going broke

I believe it, but what I heard is that Mr Osmond did not want Merrell to marry. He was the first of the performing brothers to marry. When young guys have a teen idol image to maintain they cannot let their fans know that they are married. That is the way it was in the 60s and 70s anyway. I heard that when the Beatles became popular their manager told them not to let anyone know anything about their girlfriends or wives.

"Spfia Van Niekerk" Not to be argumentative but I was a fan as a child. and I still appreciate some of their songs but I think the Mormon church made the Osmonds into puppets for the religion. It always seemed to me that Debbie Osmond looked like any other woman trapped because of being born into a very religious culture and conditioned from day one to think that she is to be the property of a man or she would be displeasing god. Such women may say that they chose being wives and mothers and don't feel imprisoned or as if they are second class citizens because they were born female, but somehow in their expressions, the way they don't have a personality of their own, the way they are just copying other women of their "faith" these women are robotic and without brains of their own.

Well it's bad that it had to ruin his career , but him truly loving her and rebuilding again after that just shows that he was the best in the business. When he was very young , he was a very good child and person. Others got into fame then sex followed soon after, but Donny saved himself for his marriage. He didn't get into drugs and all that stuff. I've always had the very deep respect for this Osmond and person. Love his music and was well into them when they were younger. No doubt , I guess there were other good Osmond brothers too , but I read and know alot about Donny and worshiped the Osmonds in a dedicated way , not as God's, but true dedication. Never forget those 70.s. Best times 4 music and bands of the best , oh , Abba was on top too. I guess from mid 60.s to the early 80.s was the best decades of music , but only then after came Kurt Cobain to save music and be another great , but then he died. So , good music is over in this world. That's my take.
