The diva is loud, confident, demanding, and isn't afraid to take up space. The term is often thrown around as an insult, but the diva is a figure of self-created power many of us can take inspiration from. These days we’re seeing more nuanced takes on the trope, like Birds Of Prey's Harley Quinn and Abbott Elementary's Principal Ava, that show the value in being loud and proud.

I've used intermittent fasting in the past to lose weight effectively. At the same time, I've heard doctors and nutritionists disagree over its effectiveness. Weight loss is an unfortunately sensitive social topic, so it could be a good idea to present what the research says on this with the advertisement.

No offense but it’s not the creators job to control how you feel about an ad. As a skinny bitch who has dealt w borderline eating disorders for a lot of my life, the bits about tracking your calories can actually be really helpful. You don’t have to take an ads’ advice pointblank. You are your own autonomous person and can make your own decisions. I understand your point that these videos are primarily directed to young, impressionable women, but these women also need to be able to make their own decisions and learn from their choices. I agree that intermittent fasting is incredibly unhealthy, but I am able to make my own choice on that opinion. On a second note, you can just skip the ad. Skip forward 10-20 seconds and you don’t need to hear it. I get the vibe you were hurt by this and I respect that, but it is still not at the fault of the creators who genuinely do a lot of good for women. It’s inappropriate to throw that away because they were sponsored by a weight-tracking company.

I know there are already comments on it but I really think you guys should reconsider working with Simple. Not everyone who uses these type of apps has their actual health in mind. It’s a gateway to ED’s and implying weight loss automatically means “taking care of your health” is just enabling it and perpetuates fatphobia. I also just found the whole advertisement in bad taste. Opening with “take care of your curves” as if a diet app is remotely body neutral comes off as manipulative and pink-washing. And trying to tie it in with the topic of the video by saying how we can embody our inner diva by using this app is just plain contradictory. It makes it worth recognizing how on screen divas are only charismatic if they’re conventionally attractive, something that even if you guys just happen to not consider, comes off as suspicious when this was this video’s sponsor….

For a video about how it’s good to challenge the status quo of how women are meant to be in society, that women can and should take up space, it’s jarring to see an ad for a dieting app in the middle of it, which counteracts the rest of the video’s positive messages with the negative message that only once you are thin enough, THEN you can be a diva. I mean, “do you want a body fit for a diva?” You literally just showed a range of divas with all sorts of different body sizes! Im naturally meek, and used to be shamed into trying to act like a diva, because in a lot of circles diva is believed to be the only valid way to show that you love yourself and have self confidence. I tried it, made me absolutely miserable. Being a diva doesn’t make someone inherently bad, same as being meek doesn’t make someone inherently good. Both types have their pros and cons. Instead of using an “us vs. them” mentality, we should be uplifting each other.

I had the feeling that you're just uncritically reading out a sales pitch (especially when said sales pitch is promising too much), and don't think that's great for your audience. Please be more mindful and do some research before accepting sponsorships like this and basically giving out health and diet advice. That's always risky because health is so complex and individual. As a starting point, you could look up Abbey Sharp, she's a registered dietetician here on youtube, she has some great videos talking about intermittent fasting, she talks about the good and the bad and the ugly as well.

the ideal Diva is someone who is fully confident in not just their worth as a complete person, but everyone's worth as a complete person. Divas who look down on other people are just bratty snobs, even if they have the skills/talent/etc to back their confidence up. If you can only feel confident by making others feel insecure, you arent confident, you're insecure with a dramatic front.

Hey, I was so shocked to see a weight loss ad in your video. I thought it must be a joke at first because your channel is usually really good about addressing these types of toxic issues in our society. Just very disappointed, it seems like you’re straying away from your initial intentions with your channel.

Someone who has to scream and throw tantrums to get attention loses my respect instantly. Comes from personal experience - the "divas" I've worked with over the years have been some of the most toxic, unreliable and downright horrible colleagues.

You are an influence on youth. You should take responsibility not promoting some questionable diet fasting apps and toxic views on health and beauty. Entitlement isn’t cute. And it would have been cool if you explored this field, the small important detail between cool divas and the gross ones. After all, entitlement don’t go well with males as with females. Explore new places than the same feminist narrative.

I think it's messed up that you promote intermittent fasting. It's often something that people with eating disorders do and I think it's very toxic mentally. Don't talk about female empowerment while also promoting harmful practices that reinforce society's beauty standards.

my favorit diva is val from the bbc show uncle . . . he is an absolut delight, demands all attention effortlessly, steals the show when ever he is on screan and the confidance with which he styles himself in female coded clothing demands respect, enough that even a totaly pissed at him women is mindful of trying to respect his genderexpression calling him a lady while probably imagining to stab him with szissors . . . it is awesome ^^

I feel like this video lacked the usual two-sided nuance of their usual discussions. Normally we get the positives and negatives of these tropes/people and we as the viewer are able to draw our own conclusions and opinions, but this felt a bit flat and one-sided for me. Yes divas can showcase independence, confidence and female/queer empowerment in a way that has been previously underappreciated, but there are also many examples of famous divas being selfish, rude and even bullying to people around them. Especially those they consider inferior e.g. people who work for them - take Lea Michele or Naomi Campbell who have been famously nasty to others. There's also often an inherent competitiveness to other divas meaning that they are far more likely to feud with other women/queer people instead of supporting and empowering their fellow artists. I'm not saying this to be negative about divas but to try and add in an alternative perspective that The Take usually gives in its videos. It's important that representation is realistic and nuanced and that all sides are considered in discussions. Also yeah, the diet ad wasn't cool. Very tone deaf.
