Aside from landmarks, I found subways to be a very good place to get gear when playing solo, plus it's warm inside. If you hit the subway on the east side of the map (the one that runs east-west & goes forever) you enter at the end at the eastern most part of the map & then go west underground toward the DZ and by the time you get to the end you've got much better gear, never have to worry about warmth, and have a good base-line of gear. You need an LMG before entering & be careful because there are some veteran enemies down there, but if you kill them they drop a lot of purple gear which you need before entering the DZ. Pop out by the DZ and hit a safe house to craft a virus filter & what else you need and you should be ready to hit the DZ. Don't forget to hit any vending/soda machines you find because they provide free soda.

This was by far the best review/tutorial on survival, way back then. The level of play of most folks playing this mode has improved a bunch. I have been playing this game mode since launch. It is still the best mode to play in either Div game. I agree it is not for the loot, but for the ambience and the thrill of the hunt. it is nice that there are still many folks keeping this mode alive.

We did survival PVE with a group of 4... we took our time and were always late for the choppers and locations, but interestingly enough, we were able to benefit of looting (sad) other dead player's corpses and cleaning up their left over enemies. We crafted and regrouped as we traversed the snow filled wastes of New York and when we all were able to craft the mask (which finally I had to take the scope off of my sniper rifle and drop it so the last player could use the tool to craft their mask, we went into the DZ! Our players were confused about the Virus, so I'm glad you mentioned that we only needed the one Anti-Viral here in your video... We got up to the end with the Hunters... we took most of them out... but for some reason, we just couldn't get the last 2 out.... there were 6 players in the Extraction zone at the end, and we got about 4 of them down... as we fought... which was a long fight... our players died for various reasons. One of our players died from the Sepsis actually... we couldn't find enough medicine for them! Another player was dying from the cold, and the rest of us died from the Hunters... It was a wild ride... as the last player, I attempted to lead the hunters away, but I was gunned down and axed in the end. So glad to have some awesome and immersive experiences back in the Division... this is the thematic gameplay I love about the division.

Christopher Batarlis My team of 4 played through PVP mode. Players kept dying, left and right, player count was down to 8, meaning 2 teams left. We got through the DZ, got the req items. Was about to go extract and there they were, the other team. Up and down the stairs, we PVP, with 10-15 min left from the virus to kill us. We lost one, lost the battle...but we won the war. Popped extraction, killed hunters very easily with stun grenades, and three of us got out.

not understanding the comments about this getting boring after a few runs, i mean how many times have we done the same mission over for dailies? or the underground, or incursions, all just for more loot, so we can go do it again for more..... loot. I started a new character with the exspress purpose of just taking my time and exploring the city, with no fast travel and no rush just to experience the city and areas that i have just ran past or fast traveled thru a million times and i am having a blast with it. so this mode to me seems amazing and a new experience that hopefully will be as fun as this video makes it seem, thx for the info skillup, cheers

+Don Camillo Personally I think it's quite fine that they have made a DLC thing that appeals to those who's not so much into the (gear) progression race for once.. Why is that? Well because it's theoretically entirely optional if you want to buy it at all, which you (Don) shouldn't, because it's not your thing :D voting with your monies! Of course the real problem is season passes, where people buy blind DLC more or less and get pissed when they realize they've bought something they don't like :C

I play survival many times, it is almost only thing i play now in division. I had few secrets and tips I learned. 1) pills will become more weak, on the end pills was giving me like a 20 sec, but even with that there is a plenty time to do all thing that you want(for me it take like from 1h to 2h max) 2) in base on start there is pills and fabric. 3) often there is a police car close to start base, if so and you will get tw3o green parts of gun, go back to shelter and create some, it will make every thing easier and faster. 4)underground is good place for getting item, not only there is always some boxes, but you don't freeze your but 5) scan ability is good to make as fast as you can. with it you can easy sneak and steal cure from enemy 6) the last one in dark zone get the worst place to extract cure. 7)sniper weapon is good for fast clearing mobs, especially red one. 8)in dark zone is hard to outrun a guy with the shotgun, so kill him If you can and then run. Be careful near church. 9)remember that when you pick some thing you can wear it by using 'c' and while crafting by using 'f'. 10) take your time with hunter, don't came to close with shield(he will just knife you), shield on hunter is better when you are in group. when you are alone sniper, turret and plenty of patient(especially in the plaza place). High ground is good :).

Oddly enough in real life, the yellow 'rubber duck' biohazard suit would be the warmest thing you could possibly want as a base layer. It could be 30 below and you'd be walking around in your own sweat bath. Trash bags are also highly effective insulation =)

When collecting new armor from fallen enemies, deconstruct it your old stuff, same with weapons. Why keep a bunch of green armor and weapons when you have blue and purple stuff? I figured that out my first play through and am surprised you didn't bring it up. Am I the only person who does that? Instead of searching for fabric, tools, and weapon kits, just deconstruct everything and you will always have what you need.

1.) Survival ISNT seperate from the progression of your character. Character progression has two aspects. The gear you use in the open world, and the progression of the characters story. Now from what I have played and seen this snt exactly the case. It is your character you still play. Survival is the next part in the overall character story. The gear you have doesnt go with you. Which the opening cut scene explains why. You get gear after your session. So it does effect that. It also is more of a story mode. It does progress the characters story. Yes survival is its own game mode, but it progresses the character's story. Its a gamemode, that encompasses what im guessing is the prequal to the third expansion.

I solo queued PvE for my first taste of survival this morning. After dying before getting into the DZ the first time around, I got all the way to extraction on my second try, where I was killed by a hunter as I made the break for the chopped, anti-viral in hand. Total kills: 18. I had crafted myself a green AK at the start of the match, and just stealthed my way all the way through the DZ, only fighting groups of one or two regular level 30 mobs. Like you said, it's all about the experience. I had a blast sneaking past everything, but when I made it to extraction and the voice says "high threat target detected" I just about gave up. I played ring-around-the-rosie with the hunter using a bus shelter as cover, and made a break for the chopper at the last second only to be gunned down before I could make it to the circle. I had a blast, and I'm really glad I decided to pick up the DLC.

For solo players, I Just want to throw out a caveat with regards to Skill Up remarks @2:22 about Survival being one of the worst ways to gear up: This is only true of you are not extracting in at least 9 out of 10 runs (with full DZ Sack). HOWEVER: if you extract majority of runs (like I do), you will leave with minimum 26 items, (36 items possible if you extract with the right kind of caches), for about 1 hour 10 mins with of gameplay. (And by "items" I mean actual gear pieces & weapons, not a ton of mods like you get in the DZ). So yeah, it's actually very lucrative "IF" you can extract on nearly every run (which is definitely achievable). Survival will be my number one means of getting gear when I want it in 1.5

You forgot to mention some very important points if playing in a group! First off, stay together. I would say in a radius of 300 m. Everybody has to find their own loot, but if the going gets tough you need to be able to fight together. Second is that ability to SHARE!! You can share everything from gear, to weapons to cloths, yes even the consumables like medicine or water! Third, everything that you or your teammates don't need, should be dismantled to get crafting tools!! Happy gaming. Thanks for all your tips! 😎

Few things. First crafting an extended magazine is incredible for your LMG. You can guarantee it to have increased magazine size and its really not too expensive for what you get. Secondly you don't NEED to collect the antivirals to extract. You only need the antivirals to call in the chopper with a flare gun. If someone else has called in an extraction, even if you are not grouped up with them, you can hitch a ride on their chopper. Finally where do you get 15 cashes at the end? During the Open Beta I finished several times with the best possible rating and only got 5. I extracted with 6 more on me to bring the total to 11. Can you be awarded more than 5 caches?

They removed extended magazines from the survival in the last PTS patch. You can't craft them at all anymore. The devs said they made things too easy against the hunters and I agree. AS for the caches, I touched on that in my post above. The max cache you can loot is 6 and then you are awarded more caches based on your score (up to 5 I believe). So yeah 11 catches is the limit I think. But skillup meant 15 items, not 15 caches. In each cache you open you get 2 to 4 items. So if you come away with just 5 caches, you can end up with 10 to 15 items. Come away with the max caches and you can come away with 20+ items.

Great vid but there was one thing that suprised me . . . when in Survival your team members, whether friends or through matchmaking can, and do, pick up your drops straight away. If they are closer and get to your kill first they have the opportunity to 'steal' your life saving clothing, gear and weapons so be very careful who you go in with and remember those that do not 'have your back' :(

Information for all survival lovers... when the rope is there and there is no chopper that means the chopper is invisible!!! Just get close to the rope and the extract option will show up, ohh and dont stay on the chopper landing zone when the chopper is landing (That causes the invisible chopper glitch).

I have to be honest, Levy I completely agree. Been here defending The Division since the beginning. I'm all out of excuses for Massive at this point. I'm trying to picture a scenario where say, DICE for instance would have had me pay for a DLC on something like Battlefield 4 (In my case a season pass), and to fulfill their obligation to my purchase, given me only Golmud Railway (which comes with the base game mind you), and added to it a cut scene, took away all the weapons I've unlocked, stuck me in ONLY GUNMASTER, and added a weather condition and made my character weaken from sickness... then made that game mode an hour long. Heres your DLC go play it... I feel like I've been swindled.

12:30 - Leveling 1 - 30 is the same. Toughness is the only stat that matters. Taking an item that is level 20 and blue with stamina is better than a purple level 24 item with electronics. Stamina and armor are king. The big reason for this is that the penalty for death is still too high, especially when playing solo.

Hey thanks for this guide, my first (PVE), and consequently only mission into Survival didn’t go so well & put me off, largely because I was too lazy to learn it’s hidden beauty. So armed with a little wisdom, last evening I returned, PVP straight off, to much better effect overall (apart from 1 round where I died almost instantly 😖). if you want to do good run 2 people it is also good with a friend with a mic and not go for helicopter crashes go for landmarks and look for weapon parts at the start. This is how i do it and get 6 survival caches everytime.

Xi I think that you can only use superior (purple) stuff in the Survival mode. The gold drops are all sealed caches as far as I know.

Actually, if you get enough crafting material, you can convert it to high end crafting material to make high end gear at the dark zone venders.

Good guide but I disagree survival IS good for loot, especially for solo players who are looking to get the higher 256 rank pieces. I exited my first extraction with something like 12 cashes with at least 2 x 256 per cashe. So realistically i came out with about 30 x 256 pieces in about 90mins. Few tips from me: 1: Loot loot loot. any inside building is usually great. 2: stay alive! its ok to avoid enemies to start with until you have a set of blue kit at least 3: remember to deconstruct loot you dont want.

Enjoying Survival so far - made it out twice. Being last one out, its was good idea to use pulse at the evac sites to see how many hunters are already there. Hunters that spawned and beat another player stick around for the next sucker. Taking down one hunter is possible with purple and gold builds. Two to four can be too much for a solo player. Heh... four at one evac site - it was fun for about 2 seconds. Good hunting all.

As a PS4 user, I'm used to the fact that we will have to wait a full month to play the 1.5 DLC after it's official release, but there was a lot of talk that we would at least be able to enjoy the 1.5 patch at the same time as Xbox and PC users. Since that's obviously not the case at this point my question is this: When 1.5 becomes available for PS4, will the vendors be selling the same weapons/gear/mods/blueprints that have currently been made available to the Xbox and PC users? I know of a handful of great items being sold right now in 1.5 (navy mp5 blueprint; near-god roll pakhan for PVE; etc..) and it would be extremely unfair to PS4 users if we are not given the same opportunity to purchase some of these items bc of a delayed release date.

And as well if your solo you can make sure you pick up the best gear for you. Like Butter 1v4 some players in survival and won. This is because he was geared up more so which do you prefer. P.S. My first PVP game yesterday, we had a team of 3, went straight for a helicopter crash and we made it first so I picked up an MP7 and 3 other groups all made it at the same time from all around us and we wiped them all out because of my MP7, it was amazing.

You don't need to even get the antivirals. You'll get more points/caches if you do though. You just need to find a Division Tech to build there flare gun and there are a few Division Techs laying around the DZ.

I can see this queue being a problem. Just like UG give it a week and every one will realize how borring it is and its will take ages for the queu to fill in 24 players. Wonder if the queue has a timer.

yeah eventually that queue is bound to be an issue. They are going to have to do something to keep people playing this mode if they don't want queue times to become a nightmare.

agreed - not sure why they don't just make it a dynamic drop-in, drop-out type of scenario with players coming and going.

because the materials on the map are one-use only : and they don't respawn. So it's really first come first served. Another way to solve the issue would be just to remove the 24 player limit : After say 5 min the sessions starts by default with the number of people waitingt even if it is less than 24.

That's my biggest issue with the Survial's PVE setup. SURE, you don't kill other players... but you still are kind of fighting them for supplies. Time and time again I gotta back out and start again because every place I go for it's hit by another player. Massive must REALLY be desperate to make players fight one another. And second thing, why 24 players??? From my count on that cutscene - there were only 7 agents in total on that helicopter. How do we go from 7 agents struggling to survive, to 24??? Uhhhhhhh.... did you have 2 out of 3 that miraculously happened to have 7 agents... and miraculously ALL crashed at the same time - and... cough ''''Miraculously''' yet again, all had the septic shock?? I love the survival game, but I think it's just too impractical on some footnotes. Almost as if they are trying so hard that it defeats itself ultimately. 24 in a PVP with limited supply to go around sounds more appropriate than for PVE. Just my opinion.

Ok so I did hear the part in the video where you said that the consumables cannot be shared to all when opened in PVE survival, but does that go the same way for PVP survivability?

how do you keep gears you equipped onto next game? I seem to loose all gears when I die in survival and has to restart from scratch next time I play survival.

NPC's deal more damage and take less damage. At least compared to week one on the PTS. I was hoping for option or solo PvP queue (where you can't group even while inside the Survival instance), but seems this won't happen. As I mainly solo, I guess I will do PvE runs then...

the helicopter crash site was ontop of a building, is the loot down near the building.. or up the building? cause i couldnt find a way up.

I would definitely craft a purple holster if you can quickly before going into the DZ and then a high end holster when you get into the DZ since they will have all three stats and more armor.

I have played this twice. really like the game type, some might say it is slow but for me it is being in the moment. and seeing how far I can get. it says you have two hours might as well use them. so go play in the snow.
