Rex must have been a beast, to the criminal underworld. I’ve only heard positive statements about him.
@ChuckPuckett-w2d5 ай бұрын
There is a podcast about the Dixie Mafia called Gone South. Look up Season 2 Episode 5 called The Real Deal. It tells you a lot about Rex from fellow law officers.. Judge Sherry's family hired him to investigate the Sherry murders. I just did an episode with Mike Elam last week on Rex titled Rex Armistead. You can watch that. I also did one with Mike about a year ago called Raid At The State Line. Rex did whatever it took to get the job done. He was an old style cop.

Kern had a neighbor of her's call me one night. I think she was living in North Carolina. She was wanting to know if I would make a copy of the book & mail it to her. Kern said that some of the things in the book about some of those men were lies or half truths She said that the reason for that was because several of them were going to trial about the time the book was written. The book was used to spread misinformation among law enforcement. She got some things wrong about Rex & Toehead. Rex was 6 years older than Toehead & was in military school in TN while Toehead was coming up. They were both from the MS Delta. Rex was from Lula & Toehead was from around Sumner. Toehead was killed in Corinth. Corinth is not in the Delta, it is in Northeast MS. Rex & Toehead never had an agreement or alliance. Neither one of them would've thought once about killing each other. Rex said they would get together & small talk some. Rex said the scene on the restaurant really happened.

How did your conversations with Rex come about?
@ChuckPuckett-w2d5 ай бұрын
@@revondakirby5005 I just called him up one night & introduced myself. Both sides of my family were from Northeast MS. Some of them were whiskey runners & involved in theft rings. Rex stayed after them a lot. Rex was also hired to investigate my cousin back in the 1980's. I was amazed at what he knew about my folks. My grandmother's first cousin was the sheriff of Pontotoc County, MS from 1960-64. I also have 2 cousins that are MS State Troopers. Rex is still revered among them.

@@ChuckPuckett-w2d That is so neat. I love it! I am from McNairy, of course, Ramer to be precise. To be more precise, between Ramer and Pocahontas. My family on both sides were moonshiners and bootleggers too. They got into their fair share of trouble, but I don't think any of them were ever too high on LE radar. Now there are some things that went to the grave, of course. Once again, I appreciate you and your respectfulness. I don't argue with folks and I have been expecting that from a certain crowd. Thank you for sharing. I would love to hear more about your folks! Interesting stuff.

@@revondakirby5005 I know some of my folks had gambling spots as well. I know they would haul a lot of whiskey to & from Alabama & other spots. They had souped up cars that would run around 160 MPH & I'm told that some could do more than that. They also had vans that were used to move stolen merchandise. I had a cousin that was in prison in Alabama around 1950-1960. When some would go visit them, the AL State Troopers would be at the gate. They would tell them that we've seen ya'll haul from so & so's still. LOL
