Few people know that The Don's grandfather also met a famous super lady. In the pilot episode of Agent Carter, we get to see The Don's grandpa, who was a WW2 soldier and POW, btw... He was having a bad morning and was a bit snippy with a waitress, who seemed to give as much as she got. Then, none other than Captain America's friend Agent Carter walked up from his blind spot, jammed a fork under his arm, and declared that she intended to stab his brachial artery and let him bleed out there on the diner floor if he didn't leave and never come back. Turns out that The Don's family has had it rough with the psychopathic women of the Marvel universe.

Pretty sure I've heard this particular argument before, but... let's just swap the two characters and their respective powerlevels... Give Don the powers of the whatever Stone, and Carol's the one who comes up to bother him. So, he grabs her hand and threatens to crush it if she doesn't give him her clothes, her bike, and whatever the third thing was. How is that not abuse?
@RedStar_N711 ай бұрын
Abusive superheroes can be cool though. That's just Homelander from The Boys. A show that has had way more long lasting success than anything coming out of marvel in the last 5 years. The difference is the writers dont treat him like the hero of the story. Marvel on the other hand, wants us to bend over backwards for their sociopath, narcissistic, holier-than-thou characters

@@blankadams3120 Hm... So I take it you're not a big fan of Hancock then? I think he's a great example of a superhero who abuses his power or is otherwise irresponsible with them, but is otherwise still a good guy deep down. And yes, if you take what I said and reduce that to "Evil Superman" then fine... but when you're only looking at things at the surface level, its no wonder you don't find any fascination in it. However many depictions of evil supermen currently exist, I can promise you there's faaaar more of the same boy scout cookie cutter versions of him out there. I don't think you should let bad executions of that trope drive you away from the concept entirely. My point is you can write interesting stories with "not so goody" types of superheroes and they could have done the same with Cpt. Marvel The big topic of discussion surrounding the movie will bring up genders and role reversals etc. Carol's gender be damned. I still think they could have made a good movie even with this attitude of hers. And the same could have worked if The Don was the one imposing his dominance

44:54 There's a reason he left out the word "reasonable" from that definition. All of this relies on the perspective of the reasonable person. For example, no jury would find that Superman is in reasonable fear of imminent death or great bodily harm (that actual legal standard for self defense) because someone asked him to smile. It could not be argued that she even finds the touching of a stranger's reading material criminal or offensive, as she does that very thing to an elderly man later in this very film.

Look at the case of Michael Drejka, who claimed to be in fear for his life from an unarmed man. After Drejka approached the victim, walked up to his victim, less than a foot away and told him he had to leave, his victim did not instigate conflict instead politely told Droijka that it was a public parking space and he had permission to park there from the owner, and that Drejka did not have the authority to order him to leave. Drejka then pulled a handgun and opened fire without warning, claiming that the victim was too close to his personal space. Incredibly similar circumstances, the only difference was he didn't steal the vehicle. Drejka got life without possibility of parole.
