I think this is the best song ever composed by the Doobie Brothers, without disregarding any of the others. What makes this live version even more enjoyable, is the joy with which Pat Simmons sings the song he wrote. Further more, this song is even more delightful with the sax solo than with the original flute version. Thank you, Doobie Brothers for this peace of art!

Loved the Doobie Brothers since I first started listening to their albums in the early 1970s. Of all the songs on the album, Toulouse Street, it was the song of the same title that stayed in mind and heart, and yet, there was so little made of it. I always considered it one of the DB's most gorgeous pieces. Haunting, inward looking, lyrical, flowing. Pat Simmon's fingerstyle work is impeccable. I'm glad Toulouse Street is finally getting its due. The Doobies are one of the great musical treasuries of our times, a true gift and a genuine joy.

I'm always at awe at the variety, versatlity and range of elements weaved through out the Doobs music. I've heard all the songs on all the albums and never get tired of them over 50 years. What a success store. You should have been in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame many years ago. There is really not a better rock group. This song is just another example. Such a pretty acoustical piece. Thank you so much for the many years and please don't ever retire.

Patrick, your songs from back then had this mystery and melancholy that was spellbinding. Thank you. You guys were in town here in San Diego about six years ago at Humphrey’s, and I guess you came to set up a day early. My band was playing in the backstage lounge. and when we did Mojo Hand I did my remote guitar solo in the audience, then came back on stage and my bandmates said “hey way to go playing for the Doobie Brothers”, and I said “What? Where?” So, you guys were dancing and having a good time and I didn’t have a clue it was you.

The Doobie Brothers are a rock band for those of us OGs who still ride out (Scout, not a 74, but if you want to run it, let's go) whether or not anyone is left with whom we wish to settle a score. I'll be 69 this year and that's no joke. But if she puts the top down on the convertible at the light, there's a decent chance that same thing would happen now that would have then. Just takes longer, only happens once and isn't as dramatic. But Patrick's opening "Toulouse Street" riff, or lick, or arpeggio, whatever that enchanting fretwork is called, doesn't sound at first like the foundation for an eternal piece of Western music. But, by everything that's Holy, Mr. Simmons has here created a masterpiece. I play this cut at least semi-monthly. It was daily for 3-4 months last summer. This sax playing is one of the subset performances on the instrument in which I hear questions and suggestions being spoken and in a language I cannot understand. But I can hear the interrogative and feel the directionless urge. If the sax weren't so ethereally evocative, the cellist would stand out even more than this playing already does. I'm a (poor) drummer with perfect rhythm (according to a pro player/teacher) and if there is a drummer on this cut, I can't hear him. Which means THAT playing is essentially perfect, as well, like everything else in this performance. The enormity of the effect of an intuitive arrangement of a good song is not always obvious. Two examples of serially stellar ability to arrange songs so that they fly INTO your head and bounce around for a while ... and then never leave. Tom Petty and Patrick Simmons. If you haven't, at some point in your life, walked around humming "Another Lonely Park, Another Sunday," or "Toulouse Street" after hearing it in a shop or coming out of a radio playing near a window, I don't wanna know ya. Because those are love songs, vibrations of healing, laid on top of the work of the Poet possessed of an intuitive grasp of the human condition. Anyone who can make me, at turns, rip/stomp my throttle until I can feel the world going by at a proper getting-tf-out-of-my-way pace, or alternately weep like a baby at a hard life Truth revealed so sweetly I can feel my late father's hand on my shoulder in the moment, has a Muse of barely imaginable power and beauty. "Music" is sometimes too broad a brush for talent like this. Life-sustaining Art is what it is.
