So many singers sound nothing like they do on their albums when you hear them live. Yet here is Jim sounding vocally exactly like the recorded version. What a voice.

Great song drunk or sober.I used to get smashed on whisky and loved to listen to the doors.But I got sober and now I really get the doors music.They went where no other band dared to go.They went against the grain.Now my nephew likes the doors and he researches Jim's poetry on his I pad.The doors are still selling songs and T shirts.

This song is sent to my best friend, if there's afterlife (and if there's KZbin in there). Remember, how we used to sing this ol' song when we were drunk and prowled from pub to pub all nite?.. Rest in peace NZ!

I'm singing an opera/musical by Kurt Weill called "The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny", and this song, Alabama Song, is taken from there. The thing is: these guys actually covered something classical, and, I must say, it's as good (or maybe almost) as the original! And it has a lot of diferences. Basically what I'm saying is that The Doors are amazing for being rock singers who actually know about music in all its forms - and this is what I call real musicians!

Even though this is among the silliest of the Doors songs, i am always drawn back to it. I think there is a lot of unspoken history in it.

It's my second favorite Doors song.
@hannahkozal12465 жыл бұрын
there is a lot of unspoken history on it. Its actually not their song! The song is actually a German poem written by Elisabeth Hauptmann then set to music bc Kurt Weill then it was put into a play called "Little Mahagonny" it was also put into the opera "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny". Its been covered by both The Doors and David Bowie.

This was the first concert I ever went to in '68. He went from this song into back door man into another song without stopping and band tuning and all the other bullshit. They were tight and great. People did not know what they were watching that night. There were moments too staged but the presentation of the music was great. I saw them 4 times in concert and rate this one about the 2nd or 3rd best. It was great to see it out on Video CD.
