The Doors were amazing. A psychedelic fusion of jazz, rock and blues so tightly woven around the surreal poetry and soulful, wounded vocals of the late, great Jim Morrison. I don't think I will ever hear of the like again in my lifetime.

agree.... yet they get short changed imo by critics and many of their musical peers in the industry. at this point, the doors more then any band was moving the ledger in a crucial period in popular music.

In this song, his eyes feel so powerful that by looking with them at you, they can photograph your soul. Just like how native people thought that having their their picture taken would effectively steal their souls. The singer of this song does the same by just looking at you and by allowing his mind take all of your essence in. Clever boy, God damn it. Jim was no fool, except when he was.

At very first hear ( AM radio that summer) you knew you were an honorary Doors fan or not! No matter how the rest evolved, you knew this was different. you knew it was worth sticking with, no matter what. They supported one another to get on the map and got on the map. Let's not forget, all those folk were in their 20's. Sometimes Jim's lyrics were a little shaky on paper. But the spirit of the times was always in there and the music did the rest. Damn decent crew. It always came across just right!
@kelvinkloud3 жыл бұрын
well described. from '66-68 they were a creative dangerous juggernaut. underrated in re to their talent still. the inconsistency and jim's baggage overshadowed them. but when distilled, their potency and impact was as pure as it get in the states.... they also regrouped and left w/ a bang. la woman was the strongest coda of the major bands. more potent then let it be.

they wouldve had to take a dramatic turn. la woman was a great album but their sound was also getting played out. however, riders, lamerica and wasp showed the creativity and cutting edge was still there... but lets say morrison makes it back from paris. by 72 the competition was thick as thieves. they didnt have the wall of metal sound to stay up w/ the juggernauts like zep, who or cooper. nor did jim have the energy to tour like that. they also wouldnt have been comfortable in the more mainstream eagles sound.... my guess the best card, go more blues base artsy. something between the allmans and floyd. if morrison got focused & got his health stronger, it was possible. very smart group. just not sure they could expand at this point. the baggage was weighting them.

I think it was in the 1980's, but does anyone else but me remember the video that Ray Manzarek directed in Hollywood using the Doors song 'LA Woman'? I remember in the video John Doe from X crushing out a cigarette butt by the star of Josef von Sternberg. I've looked and looked for that great video online but haven't found it Brillianly shot video, with great use of mood and lighting, and of course content. Thank you Ray for that one! The video may have played on MTV, but not for too long, it put most of the other crap to shame.

Miami Vice Season 2 Episode 10 "Back in the World " 10-08-86 Guest Stars Bob Babalan , Patti D'Arbanville (" Modern Problems "and NY Undercover ") and Don Johnson's former partner, and G.Gordon Liddy. Directed by Don Johnson. A classic episode from the second season of Miami Vice. The camera work from this episode was excellent. I'm surprise that Don Johnson didn't switch to directing motion pictures or for cable television. To me Don Johnson knows his way around the camera.

Strange Days, Love Her Madly, Waiting For The Sun, The Crystal Ship, My Eyes Have Seen You, Wild Child, Five To One, Roadhouse Blues Live, Land Ho!, I Can't See Your Face In My Mind, The WASP (Texas Radio And The Big Beat), Peace Frog and The Unknown Soldier... is it any wonder why I love this band?
