The sad part is everyone including Jim were underrated. I mean sure Jim gets all the Credit for the doors, but without Ray, Robbie and John the doors wouldn’t of come close to there success... Jim would of been the first to say that too and that’s why Jim wouldn’t have ever tried to leave the doors for a solo career... ✌️
@philo2405 жыл бұрын
True, underrated esp. compared to the Beatles & the like but there was some similarity between them when both bands' high profile members left their respective groups, influenced heavily by their GF's.

well dancing is fun, guitars rock but what do you want from music? To be put in a trance and learn form a preacher - satisfaction

Jim’s gift to music is his primal scream. No other singer can belt out those phrases at the TOP of his lungs (in tune, I might add), like “Let me SLEEP all night in your Soul Kitchen”! Listen to any Doors song. He reels you in softly, then SCREAMS out phrases like “Try to set the night on FFFFIIIIIIEEERRRR, yeah” or “Breakfast where the news is read”! Magic.
@strangersname3 жыл бұрын
Excellent point. The power of his vocal exclamations were like no other singer. And he REALLY *meant* it.

I had a bootleg version of Live at the Matrix I bought in the mid-70s. But the sound quality was not good on that vinyl. But the quality of this recording is very good. With today's technology and finding of original tapes, music on UTube is often better than when it was first released. Been about 40 years since I last heard this version.

The Doors were the first American group, which wasn't pieced together from some previous "super group" to have a #1 hit single on their very 1st record. The 1st to stay on the top 20 for SIX MONTHS! The first American group to earn a platinum album. ALL heir studio albums went gold. There was nothing like them before, and nothing like them since. Q: Who did they sound like? A: Nobody! The Doors sounded like "The Doors". They were American Originals! So.... is everybody in?!

@markwilkerson5848 Жыл бұрын
A truly great song. Far beyond my capabilities to boil down which of their songs are among their best. I suppose that's because I've never heard any Doors music that wasn't essentially excellent. I feel like that about others, too, especially Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead. Those artists and the Doors are, to me, on a whole 'nuther level. Their music sounds as good to me today and is just as relevant as it was the first time I ever heard it.

Although the song is credited to the whole band I saw a Sky UK documentary about the making of the album & the surviving members/producers etc said that Morrison mainly wrote it - i.e. the tune as well as the lyrics. Apparently he wrote a lot of their tunes, even though he couldn't play any instrument.

@jnewman7158 жыл бұрын
This concert is from 44 years prior, yet to this day no one has ever written subliminal lyrics nor has a band been able to play improv around a singer who arrived either straight, drunk, tripping or on heroin and tranquilizers as the Doors. Grace Slick singer for Jefferson Airplane was amazed at the versatility of the band, yet after Jim's death the band's music it produced wasn't the high quality it had been. Many one hit wonders are out there, but no one has loved all the songs of this group like that of the Doors, generation after generation because of their free spirited sound. try listening to "end of the night" and "Indian summer"
@philo2405 жыл бұрын
Truly on point as many other bands would have disbanded at some point but somehow the other 3 didn't allow their own egos to disrupt the flow during that creative time period & realizing he was the nucleus, evolved to become one of the best improvising bands on the planet so that's a testament to those 3 Doors members.
