The Doors hit the stage at two o'clock in the morning on August 30, 1970. Their set was particularly dark due to lead singer Jim Morrison's unwillingness of film spotlights to be used. Much of the recording sees the group bathed in a single red spotlight. Densmore said of Morrison, "He was like a pot of boiling water with a lid on top. He didn't move a lot, but he sang really strong." Manzarek said of the show, "Our set was subdued but very intense. We played with a controlled fury and Jim was in fine vocal form. He sang for all he was worth, but moved nary a muscle. Dionysus had been shackled

Jim Morrison was so incredibly talented!!!!His songs, and poetry phenomenal. He will go down in history, as an icon, and legend. He was gorgeous. Always had his audiences captivated, and mesmerised. He was THE MAN! Of his era. His stage antics, and raw behaviour were Jim Morrison. A natural, and for me the BEST rock artist ever!. His untimely death has been a massive loss to the music industry, and his fans all over the world. God rest his beautiful soul. May he rest in eternal peace. @@CoorsBudMiller74 its strange that they have not released this officially yet. Every other professionally recorded Doors live performance have been released on their entirety . The Hollywood bowl the PBS performance and every show recorded for absolutely live in 1970. And they have released things like the matrix tapes and Vancouver 1970 which were only semi professional recordings but for some reason isle of wight has not been released even though the audio video and performance are pristine . They were suppose. To release the stage recording of Bakersfield 1970 but it got cancelled. Those are the only live recordings they have left that have not been released . Bakersfield is an amazing show. It's the peak of Jim as a blues vocalist. His voice at that show is so deep and full but it's really throaty and raw as well . In spots it's almost ragged but in a good way it's how a bluesman is supposed to sound . Rough ragged and not always pretty. The version of love me two times from that show is incredible. The long blues jam in the middle is insane. It's very tight but also very loose at the same time with Jim grinding out powerful and raw blues vocals

(The studio version on Strange Days) One of the most beautifully intense moments of any rock song ever is when Morrison screams, "Persian Night! See the Light! Save Us! Jesus! Save Us!" The first two lines reference the wise men from the Bible, often referred to as The Magi. The Magi is a priestly caste from ancient Persia. On that Christmas night the Persian Magi looked into the night and saw the Star of Bethlehem. On the album version, Morrison screaming this all out so fiercely yet beautifully is heart stopping.

@@mccauleyprop ------ The evidence for the Judeo-Christian God is irrefutable. So is heaven and hell. Why does the world play Russian Roulette with their eternity? One visionary who saw the Virgin Mary repeated what Mary told her --- “What angers our Lord greatly about those who have much is their shameless immorality and foul ingratitude.” Searing words! And Jesus told his apostles “too many people have a sluggish heart preventing them from seeing or hearing.” Simple as that. Too lazy or afraid to care. So we occupy our time with our own idols and pleasures, and God is cast aside, creating a life long pattern hard to break. Life is a trial from heaven. At a minimum, one should pray fervently and sorrowfully every single day.

lol.... music definitely just keeps evolving and getting better all the time. y'all are just sad cause the mainstream has been garbage for a long time. truth is the best music never really has been in the limelight for the most part, and a lot of the time it really takes true passion / obsession in order to even know where to find the 'real' stuff. anyway, here is some evidence of my claims: (new bands listed below) Beak>, Ariel Pink, Kurt Vile, Beach House, Deerhunter, Foxygen, MGMT, Mac DeMarco, Pond, Connan Mockasin... the list goes on, and this is just 'somewhat similar / psychedelic rock', off the top of my head - not including other genres.

One of the most charismatic front man's of all time. Just 4 to 5 years and the music, poetry and live performance's that was amassed in that short period is astonishing and well worth the respect this man and band gets. I'm blessed to have been able to enjoy their great music and see their influence today in some really talented musicians.

The first band I ever got into. I’m a mid 80’s baby so I was there for Nirvana and SG and Pearl Jam. The Doors was really the first band I ever got into like into. I knew nothing about how to play music, or write a song. They just blew me away, and when Jim Screams “when the music is your special friend” that was the heaviest sh’t ever. Way heavier than anything Nirvana or Metallica could do. Like that was heavy metal. A voice. I miss my own innocence
