So with Double Drop D I get the best part of Std Tuning (xADGBx), the bass part of Open D (DADxxx), The treble side of Open G (xxDGBD), and also most of Celtic Guitar (DADGxD), just for lowering my two E strings a whole tone. All of my Std Tuning interior chords work fine and most of the DADGAD chords you gave us work with small mods. Thanks, Tom!

Exactly. It’s a really good tuning.

I never even considered dropping the treble e string. The versatility of the "double open D & G tunings" is enlightening. Will do, thank you!

Cool lesson Tom, I never knew there was a name for the tuning. I discovered it when I was trying to learn the guitar parts for Authority Song by John Cougar Mellencamp!

Remember, when you drop tune, theirs less tension on the neck, so check your other strings because they'll be out of tune slightly. Good video 👍

Loved it. I finally have a reason to drag my slide out. I know my local stores don't carry a string lifter, GC can't be bothered to hunt one down. Then again, I couldn't find a tuning worthy of looking for myself. Now I have one. Thank you for your vid.

@oneeyemonster32625 жыл бұрын
it took a couple of tries..but okay...I get what you mean by making it easier to play the Major Barr chord..Just barr across ..it'll just be Maj instead of add 6.. i can go D min.....C Maj...Bb Maj...A Maj....or A7 into D minor...all day long. lmao Then do the (N6).....D Min...Eb Maj...F Maj...Eb Maj to D minor..too Olay....LoL If I just make a D minor barr chord shape..it'll just be D min add 11... which is still part of D min penta....it'll work..it's sound cool to actually have the add 11 on top.... so i can play G min penta and A min penta too..while in D minor.. I can even let the High open D drone....play the B dim triad agsinst it as if Im play D melodic minor..it sound cool like that too. i like playing it against D MAJOR/B minor too...different sounds. I dont have a problem playing maj3 or b3...againt it...or even the b2...lol I'll actaully make part of B sus9 chord and let it drone against the open D. It sounds enchanting... i can count. D maj3 or b3...it's easy...or I just pretend the 2 outside strings are in C# min/E major.....Play the 4 inside strings in B min/D MAJOR i do mixo ish.. The 4 inside strings are in E min...or D mixolydian then just do this...lol mix #2 Mix #4 Mix #2,#4 Mix b2 Mix b2, b6 Mix b2, #4

@@TomStrahle I think maybe he was talking about the Double Drop D variation on 8 string guitars (DADGCFAD instead of the 8 strings' usual F#BEADGBE), which the low F# string tuned down to D is one octave lower than low E string being tuned down to D.
