Zugzwaddle = zugzwang of the duck. Quacktics = tactics requiring a duck. Brooding = moving the duck to the same place over and over. "I can't get my bishop out, my opponent is brooding."

@@langezeit6926 I've played duck chess otb and it was not an issue and became a very natural rythm to end the move by moving the duck. I did play without clock though, so maybe if it becomes three actions (making the move, moving the duck, hitting the clock) it might be an issue.

According to Duckfish, White's best opening move is f4 (Bird's opening). If Black answers with c5, it's natural to play b4, a Wing Gambit. Black can consider Duck b3 or b4 to prevent this.

One thing I find interesting about Duck Chess is that while it can be difficult to capture the king in the middlegame with the duck being able to block checks (like in this video), in the endgame when your opponent only has a king left it becomes a lot easier. Since the king is allowed to move into check it is enough to stalemate your opponent (in regular chess), which forces them to make a move that loses the king. This means it is actually possible to force a checkmate with any piece (including knight or bishop!). Sometimes you can even checkmate with just a king, for example: white king on c5, black king on b8, duck can move anywhere, white to play and win. Also because of this any king + pawn vs king ending should be winning, because you can go for checkmate if your opponent keeps blocking the pawn.

Not really. The rules of Duck Chess say that the stalemated player wins. The reason is because it's such a rare circumstance (because of blockable long-ranged attacks) to the point where the winning player must be careful not to stalemate their opponent.

Since the opponent can never interpose the duck when the knight plays check, knights are very powerful geeses. (They are clearly stronger than bishops in this variant. Probably more useful than rooks, in fact, and two knights together would have more power than a queen, I think, since they could absolutely smother a king and then capture it.)

The answer is a very likely "NO". Even seemingly innocuous KIng-Pawn configurations would be impossible to sort out without a strong Duck chess engine
